This card is amazing.  If your opponent tries to attack a monster you control, you protect your monster and inflict damage to your opponent.  In fact, this card by itself can win a game for your if your opponent tries to attack you with their biggest beater.  Plus, it stops the attack, so your opponent will be forced to change up their strategies in their next turn.  Then, you can set another Magic Cylinder from your hand and watch them writhe as you keep burning them with their own attacks.  It makes Judgment Dragon cry because your opponent will take 3000 damage and mill out their Deck until they can no longer draw.

So please, discuss this magnificent trap that can be grabbed by the equally magnificent Mask of Darkness.

In all seriousness, though, I guess the fact people typically forget about it, because of how overshadowed it is, I guess it adds a layer or two of unpredictability, which, I guess, would make in effective in some cases.
Or something like that.

It was put to 1 for a reason, especially considering that

But it wins games.  It can't suck if it wins.

Destiny Board also wins games, it can't suck?

Admit it, this card is basically a -1 that only burn your opponent a bit and negate an attack, I'd run MF or DP instead, especially when they're just unlimited.

But it's a trap.  Traps are overpowered.  You can use them during your opponents turn and are searchable with Mask of Darkness.  The burn wins games.  Just ask that to the pissed off players that lost because they got burned for 1500+ damage during their turn.

It definitely becomes a lot more interesting with Soul Charge and maaaybe Solemn Advice being relevant. Burning for a little less than 1/3 of your opponent's Life Points with one card is actually pretty scary. Its problem is that it sacrifices a chance to weaken your opponent's board like D-Pris and Mirror Force do in order to do so, which makes it harder for you to follow through on that damage and win the game if you haven't yet.

Also, cards that steal the win when an opponent is on a roll (the whole build-up field for a comeback aaaaaaand nope thing) are infuriating.

Set another Magical Cylinder during your next turn.  Problem solved.

Ahh...I remember one of my first posts on this forum so long ago...it was in a Magic Cylinder topic, where I lamented that even then, people referred to it as "bad", and I felt it had merits yet.

Cylinder is unreliable. It can deal some solid damage and win games, but it relies on your opponent attacking into backrow without protection or using removal first. Also, if you're too far behind, your opponent can usually shrug off the damage and kill you anyways, and that 2000 damage you dealt could very well be the only damage you did.

It doesn't really have much synergy with any Decks, and backrow removal is kind of a big thing. It doesn't do anything to the attacking monster other than stop its attack, which is why Mirror Force and D-Prison see more use: They actually directly inconvenience or disrupt your opponent's Field presence and enable you to make a comeback, in addition to protecting you.

It's a good card, but it's outdated.
