Simes
Having only just started playing Yu-Gi-Oh! In the last month, I picked up three fire kings structure decks and mashed a deck together as follows: === Main Deck === :: Monster Cards :: Fire King Avatar Barong x3 Fire King Avatar Kirin x3 Fire King High Avatar Garunix x3 Goka, the Pyre of Malice x3 Manticore of Darkness x3 Royal Firestorm Guards x3 Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys x3 :: Spell Cards :: Burden of the Mighty x3 Circle of the Fire Kings x3 Hand Destruction x3 Onslaught of the Fire Kings x3 :: Trap Cards :: Backfire x3 Blast with Chain x3 Call of the Haunted x3 Horn of the Phantom Beast x3 Spiritual Fire Art - Kurenai x3 I can get the Garunix and Phoenix combo happening fairly quick and I enjoy playing it. My questions are what should I change in this deck and should I bother with a side and extra deck or just make the main deck better? My deck building knowledge in this instance is extremely limited :( If this was a vanguard deck, I could make a deck that would be decent to awesome. Zauls
Well firstly its great that you started the correct way rather than mashing a load of random cards together, you've at least got a good start out of that. However, there is still a long way to go with this deck to make is competitively optimal. First thing's first, the term "Structure Deck" is very misleading, since the deck isn't structured well enough at all to actually win anything. There is a lot of stuff missing. Fire Kings need to play 3 Fire Formation - Tenki to search out their Barongs and such. Also, Fire King Avatar Yaksha is another card you need 3 of but it doesn't come in the Structure Deck. Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear is also useful for searching out Tenki and it has synergy with the rest of the deck. 1 or 2 will do. You also need a Coach Soldier Wolfbark since he's amazing. Then there's Rekindling and Generation Shift, which are good support for the deck. Those should all be easy enough to come by, except Wolfbark. Speaking of Staples, that's another thing Structure Decks lack. These are generic cards that most decks should play. Cards like Bottomless Trap Hole, Solemn Warning, Torrenital Tribute (especially important with this deck), Dimensional Prison, Mystical Space Typhoon etc are pretty necessary to make a deck compete and to stop your opponent's plays. Get hold of some cheap staples to improve your deck. Then, you need to cut it down to 40 cards. This is so you draw your key cards more often and increase the consistency of the deck. There are a lot of cards that come with the Structure Deck that shouldn't be played at all, particularly in this one. Try something like this instead:
Monsters: 17 3x Garunix 3x Barong 3x Yaksha 1x Bear 1x Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos 1x Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys 2x Fire Hand 2x Ice Hand (if you can get your hands on either of these) 1x Coach Soldier Wolfbark Spells: 15 3x Tenki 3x Onslaught 3x Circle 2x Forbidden Lance 2x MST 1x Rekindling 1x Book of Moon Traps: 8 2x Call of the Haunted 2x Dimensional Prison 1x Solemn Warning 1x Torrential Tribute 1x Bottomless 1x Generation Shift
For the Extra Deck, just get whatever Rank 4s you can get your hands on. Hope this helped!
