Shima33
Hey there. Just got back into Yu-Gi-Oh for the first time in 8+ years, and I'm wondering what would be an awesome Water-type deck. I've got an old deck from ages ago, but gut feeling tells me that since then, there are a lot more, better cards that have been released. So, could we brainstorm and see what would be the ultimate water deck that we could pull off? I was thinking of coupling Delta Attacker, Mermaid Knight, Gravity Bind, Inferno Reckless Summon and A Legendary Ocean to get 6 attacks that have 2900 each, but I'd like for someone who knows their stuff to varify if this is a good idea or not. Cheers, Shima33
Blake
I mean, just build mermail. It's WATER.dek and it's not a terrible deck.

%phil
Yeah, but isn't there better than Mermail? Or is Mermail the best possible WATER deck? pretty much. it's the most consistant with the most powerful combos.
Shima33
Yeah, but isn't there better than Mermail? Or is Mermail the best possible WATER deck? Alright then! What's the most powerful Mermail deck that can be built?
jabber2033
Alright then! What's the most powerful Mermail deck that can be built? Are you playing online or in real life? If it's IRL, what's your budget in terms of money? Because some cards can be pretty expensive. Extra Deck is gonna cost you the most. Evilswarm Excition Knight is $90-$100 depending on who you talk to. Dracossack is ~$70. #101 is ~$45...so a good extra is gonna cost you quite a bit. If you're playing online, try this deck. It got first place at a World Championship Qualifier in Europe. It's a good place to start for an online deck.

What's the best I'd be able to get for under £50?

You can easily build a Budget variant which goes well in your local area. You can substitute the Big Eye and Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack with 2 Mermail Abyssgaios, or you can also try out the Bahamut Engine (Bahamut Shark + Rank 3 WATER XYZs) for your Extra Deck.Feel free to ask if you need any help. I can give you a Deck Skeleton if you're interested in a budget variant.

Try and keep the price down, and thank you very much.
Hunduel
Even thought I'm not a Mermail expert, I tried to do my best to create this skeleton on budget, yet add a twist with the "Bahamut Engine". Here it is:
MonstersMermail Abyssteus (3)Mermail AbyssmegaloMermail Abysspike (3)Mermail AbysslindeMermail AbyssgundeAqua SpiritTidal, Dragon Ruler of WaterfallsTrapsMermail Abyss-sphereMermail Abyss-squallExtra DeckBahamut SharkMermail AbyssgaiosMermail AbysstriteNumber 17: Leviathan DragonNumber 30: Acid Golem of DestructionLeviair the Sea DragonMechquipped Angineer
As you can see, it is highly monster-based, just like most WATER.dek variants. This Deck can do some fancy OTKs, can maintaining its advantage easily, however, it's really Special Summon-based and requires comboing, which may require novice knowledge of the game and card pool. Also requires Grave-oriented and offensive play.Definitely think about adding Level 3 Mermails and Atlanteans.

Should I look at other Mermail decks for ideas, or is there some sort of addition that I should bring in?
Hunduel
What should I put in the deck in terms of Spells/Traps? Should I look at other Mermail decks for ideas, or is there some sort of addition that I should bring in?If you add the LV3 Mermails & you also add the Atlanteans, I'd definitely add Salvage (2-3 copies), as it is a generic WATER support for any deck. I'd also add some MSTs. For the traps, I think the Mermail traps and Solemn Warning is more than enough, but if you still want to add traps, I'd suggest CED (Compulsory Evacuation Device) and Bottomless Trap Hole. You can also think about adding Effect Veiler, if you're into Hand Traps. But in my opinion, it's all up to you. If you prefer the Monster Mash decks, the deck can work perfectly fine with the traps only I mentioned. If you want it to be more control-based, you can add the staples and semi-staples required for a generic water deck.
%phil
not going to lie, mermail are an expensive deck that need numerous expensive components to function at all. if you're looking to build on a budget it's probably best not to build any water deck at all. Hunduel
Also, there is a Water Monster Mash.dek or Lancer Frog.dek. The latter goes with Sea Lancer, Frogs and Tribute stuff. That's actually much cheaper than a Mermail Deck, even thought it's still not a Tier 1-2 Competitive Deck.
Sea LancerSwap FrogTreeborn FrogDupe FrogPoison Draw FrogAny Monarch + Mega Monarch cardsSlushy(Genex Engine)
The difference is actually that Lancer Frog uses less monsters, Monster Mash is (almost) only (WATER) monsters. Slinky
I think the proper term you are looking for is "Ice". Water cant be solid by definition, because water is a liquid.
