a bad post
I think it's just attributed to Kirito's Gary Stu-ness (though I've seen Protags worse than him get a lot less hate). The thing that really bothers me about Kirito though is his lack of social awkwardness. I mean he's basically a hikikomori, but girls fall for him left and right, and he just seems to have to much charisma to me.
Dr. Cakey
I really will always love the first 10-15ish episodes of SAO 1, but the Alfheim arc was meh. Now, onto this. The fact that it took 4 weeks to start getting remotely interesting is pathetic. And I find myself hating Sinon with all that I am and wishing that Kirito were always a girl. This is kind of boring, but not as boring as the elf arc. I mean, they were still pretty high on my anime list ratings, especially with the soundtracks and all the references to past arcs, but...
Laughing Coffin, for example.
Among other things. But its no where near as good as the first episodes, at all. I don't get why so many people hate SAO though…to each their own, I guess. Ah, no, ew. SAO II is so much better than SAO S1 it's hard to believe they were written by the same person. I'd be hard-pressed to all it "good", particularly with the somewhat dull rhythm we seem to be settling in for from episode five onward, but it's at least fun, and I never thought I'd say that about SAO. How is SAO II better in any way? How is SAO I bad…? Clearly I must be missing something here. Hell I am not saying it's perfect but SAO laid the ground work to the sequel and to me felt unprecedented.
Aix
How is SAO II better in any way? How is SAO I bad…? Clearly I must be missing something here. Hell I am not saying it's perfect but SAO laid the ground work to the sequel and to me felt unprecedented. SAO I the first half was basically all filler displaying how amazing and how much of a chick magnet this nerd shut-in was. You also find out later that they time-skipped over one of the most important points to Kirito's non-existent development - when Kirito and the top guilds went on a manhunt and annihilated a PK guild. It ends up that there's no plot, no character development, just plain otaku pandering. Characters are generic, one-dimensional, and just there to help demonstrate how useless everyone would be without our Lord and Saviour Kirito Christ. Romance was forced, they skipped over all the development an- "LET'S GET MURRIED!" Asuna who was a strong Asian woman who don't need no man was pushed aside into the kitchen to make Kirito sandwiches. The ending made zero sense, I'm afraid even the Power of Love can't cheat a computer system. Sure, I'm a sucker for VRMMORPG, and I wish I had everything Kirito has - a harem, amazing sword skills, etc. - but wish fulfilment isn't everything I want out of a show. SAO is shallow and sacrifices what could have made it a good show just so that silly fanboys could go "OMG KIRITO IS SO AWESOMESAUCE".

I notice a lot of people say they hate something but never explain why (or why it's bad). I will admit I didn't care for the characters much because I saw this as an anime about a game. I mean most of them were bad but I found myself liking the red haired guy and admittedly, Asuna. I'd think romance would be a bit fast when you're probably going to die tomorrow. I mean the anime wasn't supposed to be like a rom com and I hardly think the romance was the main point, but you're right, they did speed through it a bit much. But hell I saw plenty of development imo, granted it was done a bit quickly. Saving Asuna's life and vice versa repeated times, the sleeping under the tree thing, and just the entire experience of the game they had with each other, I'd say romance could develop relatively fast in the series, granted it had far to many time lapses. Does the ending have to make absolute sense…? I don't mind the "it's a miracle" ending from time to time. I keep getting endings that make absolute sense but they just suck. I'd rather have an ending that doesn't make complete sense than one that did but was mediocre. Yeah I must be one of the silly fanboys. I also realized I have a tendency to not pay attention to characters I think I won't see again or who will die shortly which did cloud my judgement a bit. Elijah~
I've already stated my opinion on SAO I and I'll say it again. It was already blatantly obvious back in April that Kirito was my waifu and one of my favorite characters and that was because I enjoyed SAO. Then, I read reviews from other viewers that has watched it as well as the input my friends had made about the show. With the reviews in mind, I decided to watch the series a second time and that was when I realized that the reviews were true and that I must've had the mind capacity of a 5 year old (no offense to people who like SAO). The only two good episodes that actually come to mind are Episode 1 and Episode 2. Deep down, I still like SAO to a small degree ,but I just don't care for it like I used to anymore. As for SAO II, the flaws aren't as major and it is not as boring as SAO I was.
Aix
SAO II is quite slow-paced, but lacks a lot of the flaws that plagued the first season, except, of course, the fact that Kirito is a Gary Stu, which is a glaringly big one. I agree that the slow pace doesn't really suit this series. They're trying to stretch a single battle royale into 20 something episodes.

Not to mention it's literally just going to be Kirito….with a sword…..vs guns…with a twist….for 20 episodes. Oh wait! He could get a second sword! Seriously the Gary Stu was ok when it was all swords (barely) but now that it's against "professional gamers" with freaking guns it's just stupid. I agree that the slow pace doesn't really suit this series. They're trying to stretch a single battle royale into 20 something episodes. But awkward, nerdy Kirito is so kawaii. I mean, he's sort of flips between that and riding a manly motorcycle so his waifu can fill out a form on-time, but it's still there. The slow pace doesn't suit the series, but due to it the story spends more time on the interesting parts. Kirito doing lightsaber fightsaber will never be more interesting than Kirito and Sinon sitting around talking. I'd like to plug some very fun reading by Bobduh, the Bestest Person at Writing Words About Anime. In preparation for the summer season, he watched every episode of Sword Art Online and wrote about each one. It's both entertaining and educational. It's edutainment! So, uh, this is the SAO tag on his blog, so it contains a few other posts of his along with the episode write-ups.
