Surprised no one made a thread already, this has gotten some degree of attention.
Episode one wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. Was sorta generic and lacked any sort of real impact, except a bit at the end. Wish the main character wasn't so bland, but you gotta make the MC the self-insert amirite? /sarcasm

Don't like the design of the glasses girl, and it looks like she'll be recurring through the series (I don't know, I haven't read the manga, but it looks like she's actually there within him and she's listed as a main character on MAL). Hair-over-eyes girl looked nice though, and it is interesting that not all ghouls are just mindless monsters with a desire to eat and they have some sort of organization. Will be following it because of that, it reminds me of Shiki.
Tumblr's all hype for this, and I don't see why. Yes, it's not bad, but like all other animes that started yesterday, it wasn't really impressive. But yeah, the hair-over-eyes girl is interesting, and if they're really organized, the plot development should be good.

Last season's anime starts were better IMO.

I thought it had an alright start in showing the MC's despair and desperation behind his transformation. I was surprised by there being several more ghouls, kinda freaks me out there are a bunch of people calmly eating others.

Out of all anime locales I know of, I'd hate living in this Tokyo.

(Nothing's as bad as AoT though).

 • 3 weeks later...

So it's been a while.

This show is still great. I've been staying one week behind because Hulu, but i've been okay with that since I don't really talk to folks about it that often. The gourmet guy was a bit weird to deal with, but it's definitely an interesting thing to throw into the mix considering everything else going on. The opening has definitely grown on me quicker than most things, and I can't wait to see what the whole deal about his white hair is at the end of it.

Just to reiterate my opinions of stuff everyone else posted:

1. Episode 1 was really good, don't know what you're all talking about. The set up may not have been the "best", but it did its job quickly and effeciently, and frankly everything after the operation was f***ing tense.

2. I didn't even realize that the inverted colors were censorship my first time watching it, because artistically, it was so much more appealing than straight up blood and gore. It just looked cooler, and I'd prefer if they do that every time he f***ing loses it.

Episode 5, Touko bites his neck to gain strength.

If I were him, the first thing I'd probably say to her after the fight would be "So did I taste good~?"

But that's just me.

This.  Plus, she IS kinda hot.  Iunno bout you lot, but chicks + blood is okay with me.

But the show online doesn't, and it has to be a different file. And the uncensored version has to exist for the uncensored version to be available. So it's not like it's impossible to also offer the uncensored version.

It isn't, but Crunchyroll always uses the TV version. The uncensored version will only be available in the Blu-Ray, sadly.

Was gonna start a thread on Tokyo Ghoul before I saw this. Personally love the Manga the anime however has been butchered beyond belief not even just due to the censorship but of the events of the story, messing up with the pacing to fit 70 chapters (the point in which the anime will finish this season by the looks of it) within 12 episodes. Hopefully it gets enough popularity for an eventual remake adaptation that follows the Manga accurately. Still enjoy somewhat watching the anime just to see the characters come to life.

Yea it is disappointing, I'm surprised you haven't heard about the manga getting no justice from the anime, every episode is normally followed by a comment of how it as different in the manga lol but definitely recommend you check it out definitely in my top 3 manga since seeing the change in Kaneki.

To be honest, while not having read the manga, this entire series is stunningly well made. It may not follow the manga to your liking, but it's faaar from a disappointment.

The focus of the show being around what is good and evil when people being who they are comes in conflict with others is great, albeit a little less subtle than I would like after Kaneki's thought process in the last episode. Prior to that moment, it was absolutely spectacular.

To my liking would mainly be sticking to the actual story however obviously 70 chapters within 12 episodes requires rearrangements, eg: The Mado vs Touka and Amon vs Kaneki fights actually occur before they fight the Gourmet Ghoul. The story is fantastic and it does dive deep into what is "Humane" and whether or not something that threatens humanity deserves to live whilst still making you care for the latter.

Read the Manga and decide whether or not the anime has fallen short of your expectations. Entirely different ball game with this series.
