Uroborros
Hello, I have created this thread because I have been thinking on a YuGiOh fanfiction for a long time now; I have the plot, characters, and setting all planned out there is only one major issue the story fallows an OC of mine and I cannot for the life of me decide on what deck to give him. I have been thinking over a lot of different decks that I think could work but each has some sort of flaw that makes me think they will not work. So I am asking for any thoughts or idea's to help me, take note that this fic is of YuGiOh 5ds and as such it needs to be a deck based around synchro summoning. I will go over some of the decks I have thought about and why I think they will and will not work. Photon- Photon's are my favorite arch type in the game right now so naturally they we're my first idea to give him, the major issue is that Photon/Galaxy deck is based around Xyz summoning and Xyz's do not exist in the 5ds universe so that should eliminate the idea immediately but I have been thinking over the idea of creating my own Photon Tuners/Synchros to use, this may cause some controversy but I believe if done right it can work so idea's or opinions on this would be useful and I will give an example of some of the cards I have created to change the play style into something more befitting the setting. Six Samurai- Samurai deck is very fast and good for synchro summoning which is good but there is 2 major issues with the deck that really hurt it, The Six Samurai deck is known for being very fast and making explosive plays but that is with the help of some powerful spells such as Smoke signal and Six Samurai united. Since this is a 5ds fanfic Riding duels will be a major event and occur often thus making the spell cards in the deck useless which would really hurt it's efficiency, this isn't a huge problem since there will be normal duels and Six Samurai's can function even without there spells but it still could be an issue. There is one other problem which is the fact they can be too fast sometimes and they can completely lock down the opponent, while this is great in the game it wouldn't be entertaining if the protagonist could easily summon 2 or 3 synchros in one turn and completely shut down the opponent. Ice Barrier- Ice Barriers is a deck that I think would work since it is slower and defensive it could make for some interesting duels the only major issue about Ice Barriers is that Trishula and Brionic are banned(some fic's don't abide by the ban list but I plan for this one to.) and I don't think a character should have a main deck that is completely unrelated to the extra deck. It would be odd for the protagonist to use Ice Barriers as a main deck to summon a Scrap Dragon. On a side note a lot of people say not to use a water deck for OC's as it has become a Cliche among YuGiOh fics, not a major problem at all just a side thought. Agents- I have loved Agents for a long time now and would like to use them, the only major problem with them is that besides Venus and Earth most other Agents don't really have much use so if I was to use them I would need to create or redesign more agents in order to actually call it an agent deck. So any thoughts would help or any other deck idea's would be appreciated, once I have decided on a deck I will be ready to write, and thank you for reading. EDIT: I am going to apologize in advance for the error in the title I didn't notice until it was to late. <_<
Bahamut - Envoy of the End
Hey yo. First of all, you can amend the title of a thread by selecting full edit mode. Second of all, it's very hard to suggest what deck to give a character when we don't know anything about the character. Please give details as to his role in the story (protagonist/antagonist/supporting cast on either side) and his personality, and people will be better equipped to help. Uroborros
I am so sorry about the wait but I have had internet troubles. The characters name is Stark and he will serve as the protagonist. I will give a brief description of his personality but as with all stories he will develop more but this is how he is at the beginning of the story. Stark is best known for his kind hearted and postive attitute, when socialising he tries to stay respectful and understanding to those around him, he shows to be good with mannerisms especially to authority figures always speaking politily with terms such as "please." and "thank you." Despite this he seems be very Introvert often keeping his idea's and opinions to himself unless he deems it necissary to share them, he is often daydreaming making most people say he is "lost in his own little world." Stark has demonstrated the ability to be calm in situations other may find it hard and even has been able smile and make jokes while in life threatening situations however in severly important situations Stark has shown to take on a more serious demenor keeping his eye's narrowed and his voice monotone. Delibirb
Dustons. They're very lighthearted in appearance, look like fun-loving little dust mites that are generally more of a nuisance than a major force, but when they have to, they pull out their star player for some serious ass-kickery. If they need to appear more serious or even vicious, Goblin King will be of great use in that department (Since Xyz doesnt exist in this universe). Ghostricks could be another option, to play on the "introvert" aspect in that they hide face-down until they need to flip up. If you do that, you wouldnt be able to use the Xyz monsters, but they arent super necessary for any of the Ghostrick wincons.

The only real issue I see is that most Duston monsters state they cannot be used for fusion, synchro or Xyz summoning and since this is a 5ds fic I feel like I should give the protagonist a deck based around synchos since they were the major monster type for that era. I know i stated I could make tuners and synchro's for decks without them to make them fit into the world but the issue is that dustons couldn't be used for a synchro summon anyways. As for the ghostrick deck, sounds interesting although I didn't picture him using a DARK theme, but I will put some thought behind that idea. Thank you for your help. The Amazing Avian
What you might want is a deck that he can play around and get creative with, like Jaden did with his HEROs. My suggestion would be Vylon since you're set on the idea of using syncros. Vylon, Scrap, and Karakuri seem like something you'd be looking for. They all have pretty good synchros and decent for to get creative with in terms of making a play. I would also suggest Inzektors, but they don't have any archetype synchros. I actually thought over the idea of Vylons and really liked them, the only issue with Vylons is the riding duels, only speed spells can be used during them so that means no equip cards, other then that I really love that idea I actually had a time I counted that as his official deck until I came to that realization. You're right about wanting a creative deck that I can make good plays with, that's one of the reasons I am not keen on Six Samurai's as much as I once was, because it would be boring if the Protagonist of a series continually used the same strategy of summon Shi-En first turn every duel they were in. Bahamut - Envoy of the End
If you want something you can be flexible, creative and exciting with: Might I make a suggestion? Play a non-archetype deck. I know it's overlooked as non meta, but think about it. If you go down a non-archetype route, it automatically gives you access to a wider card pool for when you need a specific card to get him out of a pinch, and the odd inclusion that doesn't fit so naturally in an archetype deck might be easier to use. It's very annoying when there's a monster that exists which does exactly what you need to end a duel, but you then have to justify what that card is doing in a Dragunity deck. Greater range of Synchro access to. It's the route that Yugi, Yusei and Yuma all went down to mostly successful effect. This is the line I took with 24's main protagonist Daiki Masuro and his frienemy Garvan Zeilinski, using small archetypes and support like the Gagaga cards, but mainly billed as Lv3 Warrior Spam and Lv4 Magician Spam decks, as it setup a rivalry and contrast between them. *cards are given in their Japanese names*
Cards Used (Main Deck): 48 Numbers: 39: Aspiring Emperor Hope (appeared at end of duel against Garvan), 96: Black Mist (received from Wilhelm) Ground Deck: Aster Drawn, Darklon, Dol Dora, Evil Shinobi, Flame Tiger, Goblindbergh, Howling Warrior, Kagemusha Knight, Key Warrior Keyman, Level Warrior, Little Trooper, Majestic Gear Flashing Sky, Multiplying G, Real Crusader, Shield Warrior, Shine Knight, Silver Sniper, Soul Convoy, Speed Bird, Summoner Sambel, Tasuke Knight, The Tricky, Trident Warrior, Warrior Lady of the Wasteland, Armoured Xyz, Forbidden Chalice, Jar of Avarice, Monster Slot, Power of Unity, Raise Dead, Resonance Device, Surging Resonance, Tannhauser Gate, Treasure Cards of Magic Sealing, Unprecedented Wind, Xyz Energy, Battle Mania, Crack into the Different Dimension, Damage Condenser, Demon Chain, Dimensional Imprisonment, Guard Block, Holy Barrier – Mirror Force, Limit Rebirth, Seven Tools of Bandit, Truth Reinforce, Xyz Reflect, Xyz Soul Extra Deck: Grenosaurus, Kachi Kochi Dragon, Missing X-Saber Invoker, One Eyed Skill Gainer, Protector of Precepts Tiras, Solid Frozen Gantetsu, Sword Breaker

Cards Used (Main Deck): 41 Numbers: 83: Galaxy Queen (appeared at end of duel against Daiki), 17: Leviath Dragon (won from duel drone), 34: ECB Terabyte (won from Scag) Ground Deck: Battle Fader, Dark Spider, Effect Veiler, Gagaga Gardna, Gagaga Girl, Gagaga Magician, Jester Confit, Jinhua Cat, Light Serpent, Mutant Highbrain, Peten the Dark Clown x2, Power Giant, Predicting Monk Cho-Len, Shadow Lizard, Summon Priest x2, Book of Moon, Cyclone, Dual Cyclone, Gagaga Back, Gagaga Bolt, Gagaga Revenge, Galaxy Wave, Mysterious Wok, One for One, One Shot Wand, Treasure Cards of Adversity, Wonder Wand, Xyz Double Back, Breakthrough Skill, Damage Condenser, Damage Translation, Foolish Revival, Forced Stop, Gagaga Guard, Gagaga Rush, Gagaga Shield, Hate Crevasse, Skill Successor, Underground Machine Gun Extra Deck: Alchemic Magician, Gagaga Gunman, Magi Magi Magician Girl, Tinplate Archduke Old Cards: The following cards appeared in Garvan’s original ground and riding decks, and may or may not be included in his new deck: Full Elf, Bound Wand, Giant Shadow of Egotism, Magic Blast, Cry of the Living Dead, Hidden Soldiers, Xyz Reborn, Shine Elf
Alternatively, if you're looking for a deck for someone quiet, polite, shy, fun loving... but can get serious... maybe Gustos? Going a non- Archetype deck crossed my mind once before and was kinda what I was thinking of doing with the Agent deck, thought about doing just a generic Fairy deck that supported Agents if that makes sense. Now that you bring up Gusto's I actually started to look into them and I have to say it looks really good, the cards have some interesting effects, not too fast so I can have some drawn out duels, and isn't something every player see's every day. I am going to look more into them but I am liking the idea so far.
Bahamut - Envoy of the End
If I may, Ban-Psychics These guys are very useful for Synchro Summoning; you can pull off some impressive tricks with this lot. On top of that, a lot of the (crucial) non-Tuners are named with the pattern of "(Adjective) Psychic (Noun)" (i.e. Silent Psychic Wizard, Serene Psychic Witch), with the three adjectives for the important non-Tuners being Silent, Serene, and Hushed. Those are all good words to describe a polite introvert, are they not? These guys also don't require any Equip or Continuous Spells (though I admit, Future Glow is nice) and can become surprisingly threatening when played properly. To cap it all off, Ban-Psychics look really cool. That's it. A second suggestion would be Gusto, as Bahamut suggested. You could also try merging the two decks, but to be honest, I don't think that would work. Psychics have a good number of genuine +1 draw traps (Psychic Overload and another one) and Ban-Psychics do have that element. However Psychics in general, and it might just be my association to them in Dead Zone, seem a bit... evil, as a type. Depends on which Psychics you play, but the whole feel of the term 'Psychic' in connection with the hero doesn't sit with me per se (evenif some Gustos are psychic)
Uroborros
Well after a lot of consideration I believe that I have narrowed it down to 3 different decks. The non Archetype Fairy deck, Gusto, and the Banish Psychics. I will probably write up a duel for each and see which works and is the most enjoyable to write about. The non Archtype Fairy deck is the idea I like to most so far, so I am leaning a bit that way the issue is I am at a bite of a stump on what to put in it, I plan to implement agents into it even if it isn't going to be a full agent deck; to clarify Yusei didn't use an actual Archetype but the synchrons were present, so any ideas on how I should build it would be appreciated. I'd also like to take this time to say Thanks to everyone for their ideas, it has really helped me and I can begin writing soon so I'd like to let you all know how much I appreciate it.
