Request: Add Points Tutorial.

Dramatic Crossroad

Question

 Hello,

short and to the point - there isn't a single topic or tutorial with relevant information on points.

(My account is relatively old, but i haven't used the forum in quite a while and it's all new to me. I really want to participate in card contests again...but found myself bankrupt without these points.)

So i'd be happy if anyone would take a few minutes to explain how these work and how to obtain them, BUT it would help the community and new members to have this information in a Topic/Tutorial to explore themselves without having to bother others with mundane questions.

Thank you. :)

Points are basically the community currency of the forum. They can only be obtained by posting (a post results in one, a topic results in five), as a gift from someone (if you go to someone's profile, there's a button that lets you donate points to that person), or from a mod changing them. There's a shop here that lets you buy a few random things like a name change or whatever, but the biggest use of them is a reward for winning contests in either the cards section or maybe in Graphic Showcase, or an entry fee.

The items in the shop are expensive, yeah, but they're not really all that.

The above user already summed up what points are good for [paying contest entries, some orders in GFX Shops, gifts, some stuff in the YCM Shop tab] and how they can be obtained.

Keep in mind that you only get points (by posting) in sections where said post count is enabled. Therefore, if you posted in a section that has it locked (C&O, Games, Any Other Cards, OOC/Planning, Spam, etc), your points will not increase (as well as your post count). I don't remember if you get points for making Polls, probably not.

Contest-wise, most of them do require a fee (I've seen a couple people charge by your userlevel squared), but there are some that you can simply walk in for free.

As for the tutorial, that can be done.

It'll be relatively short, but should cover everything that needs to be said. (Basically repeat of whatever was mentioned in here)
