In an interesting twist, Capcom’s shareholders have voted to end their takeover defense. Set up in 2008, the takeover defense was a series of strategies designed to prevent outside companies from buying up a majority of Capcom’s stock, but shareholders voted against renewing it at their latest investor’s meeting, which opens the company up for potential buyers.

This by no means signifies an end to Capcom as a third party developer – an outside company would still have to pay a hefty sum to acquire over 50% of Capcom’s stock – but it’s now a distinct possibility. Capcom is no longer the lucrative giant it once was, but any potential buyers would gain exclusive rights to important franchises like Street Fighter, Ace Attorney, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Mega Man, and many more. What company, if any, will make them an offer they can’t refuse?

I honestly don't care who buys Capcom as long as I get a new X game.

Capcom have been in trouble for a while. To think they used to be a Powerhouse back in the day but all their BS DLC Decisions was bound to catch up to them sometime. Also with disapointments like Resi 6 and the new Breath of Fire game being a Mobile game with Micro Transactions (I am still wtfing now)

Nintendo, please pick up Mega Man.  You're the only big company in the industry that is willing to give him respect he deserves.  They should also snatch up Monster Hunter.

Also, give Platinum Games the rights to Okami, Viewtiful Joe and Devil May Cry.  That's the very least you can do to give your respect to the former Clover Studios.

I want Nintendo to buy them.  They won't, but a man can dream.

Some cynical awful part of me wants to see Microsoft buy them just to see the rage.

non-Japanese companies can't buy out Japanese companies apparently.  Capcom has to pull a THQ and sell all the rights to their properties.  Everyone is happy that way.

So Microsoft can't buy them out because they're not Japanese and Sony can't buy them out because they don't have the money at the moment.

Sony would probably be worst case scenario for Nintendo fans, as it means we lose Ace Attorney and Monster Hunter.

Sega, Konami or some random Japanese conglomerate would probably be the most neutral.

But Nintendo, pls.  You have to do this.  Megaman in Smash, you can't risk losing it after all the hype.  YOU MUST BUY THEM.

But really guys, if I calculated it correctly, a lot of people that work for the big companies could buy Capcom themselves, they're worth peanuts right now.

Nintendo has such a long history of working with Capcom, too.

It's just that, knowing Nintendo, they won't do it D:

Nintendo will also have to buy Capcom's debt, too, which is an issue.

This is why Capcom should just liquidate their assets and sell off all of their IPs.  Everyone is happy when other companies get a hold of the desired IPs.  I just wish that Nintendo buys the rights to Mega Man, Ace Attorney and Monster Hunter because Mega Man just feels at its best on a Nintendo console while Nintendo is heavily invested into Ace Attorney and Monster Hunter.  Plus, they should keep the Clover stuff and allow for Platinum Games to work on them.

Agree that Nintendo has a vested interest in keep Ace Attorney on their systems and making Monster Hunter an exclusive. Both of those franchises do really well on their systems and losing them wouldn't be good new for Nintendo. I can also see them buying Mega Man for reasons already said.

The question now is what will become of  Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and Street Fighter.

Well Resident Evil was exclusive for Nintendo for 3 games in the Franchise (Zero, Remake and before it was ported 4) so I reckon they could get Resi back easily enough.

DMC was a Sony Franchise until 4 so not sure on that one.

Street Fghter was always a multi console thing so it should stay that way.

Nintendo should go for Res Evil. Street Fighter only if they can get the developers along with them. The prior is a series that needs good gameplay as soon as possible after 6, and Nintendo never really lets folks down with 1st party games. Street Fighter only because it can't hurt to have one of the most widely played fighters exclusive to your system.

They can probably pass on DmC. I don't think anyone is as invested in it as some of the other franchises they can take on.
