Theory of 5/3 card combo

After watching an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal, I had a theory that could or couldnt work in real life duels.

 

I know in fact that Yuma Sukamo used Utopia's effect to stop his effect. Then after Playing Double Or Nothing(Spell Card) Utopia's attacked was doubled and attacked for a win of having his attack 5000 ATK. 

 

Now I am thinking in Theory that can the same thing work in real life duels on your own monsters eventhough we all know Utopia's effect says Any monster.

 

Utopia's Effect:

When any player's monster declares an attack: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Negate that attack. When this card is targeted for an attack, while it has no Xyz Materials; Destroy this card.

 

Now using this effect and the Spell card Double Or Nothing; Would this Effect of Utopia's work on your own monsters "Eventhough" Your not attacking Utopia himself and just your opponents monster. 

 

I want your Thoughts about this because 1 to 2 people who I know in real life said that that Utopia has to specifically be attacked eventhough it says any monster can have its attack negated. Now I know that The Anime and Real Life card effects are completely different in a why; But just think. Can my theory really work or not. I just want your thought of what I am saying here.
