MALWARE LINKS: They're scary!

Kakashi Hatake

Question

"F*CK UP ALERT: If you guys see any blue text (a link) and it seems out of place here, don't click it. I clicked it (in my case, it was simply the word 'Naruto'.) and my computer immediately had to rid itself of some sort of malware."

So 'keywords' have been turned into links to sites like Ebay 'n such and they seem to immediately download and infect your computer without your knowing.

Aix suggests that it's because YCMaker's makin' some money but I dunno if he'd put malware onto his own site.

Simplest way of dealing with it: not dealing with it. (i.e. not clicking)

These links are not necessarily malware; the antivirus treats it as such because they're not a part of Windows (I don't know the exact explanation but it's nothing to be worried about).

And, who in their right mind would look at an unknown URL and click on it?

The point is, it stuck it's d*ck into my computer without my consent, I'd rather not just have to ignore links like that.

And many, many people would click links, Rod.

I personally never click a link where the URL is suspect, but I guess this is not very easy to detect without experience.

Either way, it's as Aix said, YCMaker is just making more money.

YCMaker's giving us virus things?

No, as I said, it's not necessarily malware, but antiviruses treat it as such because it's a nuisance to the user.

Although, we all could be wrong and it is indeed malware, and then YCMaker needs to come here and fix it, as I don't think anyone else has access to the forum code.

Is a mysterious .exe file being injected not considered malware?

Vigilink is an advertising company thing which creates relatively inconspicuous ads for just about anyone, it didn't generate viruses for me the few times I've accidentally clicked on them, but I suppose it's possible the links could go to questionable sites. I'm iffy on disabling them because I think YCMaker added them himself. The best solution is to not click on links that don't have underlines or seem out of place.

If it installed a mysterious .exe file, then yeah, it's malware.

Mhm.

We don't have those crazy admin activists around anymore that can get into admin and disable the malware?
