Hitsugi no Chaika

So, apparently no one here is talking about it?

I might as well.

Ok, so basically, the daughter of the emperor of a giant, recently defeated empire is going around with two ex-soldiers to try and collect the emperor's remains for a burial, as the 8 heroes who defeated him are in possession of them.

I just got past episode 5, and boy have things taken a turn I did not expect.

If you like magical sniper rifles, sword/dagger/snake sword/warhammer/dragon fights, and fantasy, you'll probably enjoy this. I'm personally enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.

Chaika is absolutely adorable, and the opening them is like a leech that sucks on your brain. For me, at least.

I could have sworn I told you how much I was loving this I thought this was. Welp, must have forgot. Same way I forget to tell you about Sidonia no Kisha (Sci-Fi Attack on Titan). Sorry.

Again. Welp. I've really been enjoying this a surprising amount. The action is something I'm surprised you didn't comment on. It's not something fast paced like most shonen but I really get the vibe that the characters are truly skilled at combat. Their movement, position, strategy etc. matters and I love that. The plot has a really interesting concept as it covers what happens after the band of heroes defeats the final boss.

Not to mention the humor really does a solid job when it's going for it. I was set to sigh at any "incest" bits this season of anime had in store but really I'm just laughing at the humor set forth by the character dynamics.

And yeah, Chaika is max adorbs.

We're probably enjoying the OP more than we should.

It kinda reminds me of Database, which is either a very good thing

or a very BAD thing.

I should go watch episode 6. And while I'm at it, what day of the week do new episodes come out?

Sounds neat. Guess I'll look forward to it.

EDIT: Just watched 6.

Oddly enough, the entire anime feels kind of... lackluster, I guess. But it's lackluster in a way that leaves me wanting more of everything, I guess. It doesn't feel as satisfying as it could be, but instead of discouraging me from continuing, I desperately want to know what's next. It's nice.

Also a lot of... "stuff"... about Red Chaika is showing up on tumblr, much to the dismay of many.

Probably because she spent just about two whole episodes in, for all intents and purposes, bondage.

Just discovered this anime through this thread a few hours ago. I caught up with it and must say, it's surprisingly interesting. Though a while ago I read a manga with a similar story, about a swordsman ex-soldier that got betrayed and mutilated by his crew, which came to be known as seven great heroes and him as an evil traitor years later in a peaceful age, then he goes around in a new body killing them off as the story moves. I don't remember what the manga was called. Though here, it is a little more entertaining and less sadistic, so I'm grateful for that.

My theory is that an original Chaika was split up by her father into who knows how many, and all carry the same implanted desire regardless of their different personalities or goals, as a plan to bring back the emperor. The first scene of the show seems to hint at that. That said, she's being used. In a magical world where a corpse is well conserved and emanating lots of magic after 5 years of having been dismembered, that's plausible.

Or at least that's the first conclusion I came up with. It surprisingly seems to make more sense than the emperor having lots of daughters of roughly the same age, proportions, objective, lack of memory from around the same period of time, etc.

The thought crossed my mind quite a few times, and it's made only more plausible by the fact that her speech is so broken up, as well as their goals and personalities being so different. Take little parts of a girl, turn them into a whole bunch of girls, and set them free so that he might have some guaranteed way of coming back.

And, of course, if this is the case, white Chaika and crew will have to fight the emperor. I feel she'd want that, since bringing back a whole mess of war and death doesn't seem to be on her agenda.

Episode 7 is hilarious. I thought he really didn't have any feelings like that before that illusion, interesting.

He's right, it doesn't feel over. The show has to come back to this eventually.

I don't per say dislike the dragoon, but I get a little annoyed at her at times.

Fredrica gets kinda jarring at times, even though the moment when she tranformed on top of the vehicle was awesome. I think it's the fact that she chooses to appear as a little girl, yet has an unsateable bloodlust.

That always bothers me.

I read up to the current translated chapter of the manga, and it's surprisingly good. It's the kind of story you shouldn't take in all at once imo since it feels like it's going to blur into another harem story there's far too many harem stories in the world today but the overall story itself is very interesting and as many of you have realized, chaika is quite adorable.

This last episode had... such an interesting purpose. Instead of being a whole "rescue" or "stop the fakers" fiasco, it turned into mostly a background development episode.

While I'm at it, this whole dang anime is so interesting. The pacing feels whack, and yet I feel it's paced perfectly. The world needs further development, and yet it feels perfectly developed. Some characters are weak and simultaneously strong. I occasionally feel disappointed with how the whole thing is going, and yet I always eagerly anticipate every new episode.

This anime confuses me.

From my tumblr. I feel the way this anime is structured is so... non-standard, and yet so good. It's baffling.
