Agro
I thought we might as well have a thread just to discuss small gaming news things that don't necessarily warrant their own thread. There's always something coming up that I want to talk about, but it feels like overblowing it to make a full thread about it. Also it'd be cool if this were pinned. >.> Anyway, I'll just open this thread by pointing out this interesting story that cropped up today: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/05/14/philips-sues-nintendo-seeks-to-halt-wii-u-sales-in-u-s.aspx Philips is patent trolling Nintendo on the basis that they have a patent on "Virtual Body Control Device" and "User Interface System Based on Pointing Device." It feels like Nintendo gets a crap ton of patent claims from trolls, but the fact that this is leveled at the Wii U in particular makes little sense to me, since the patents that Philips has look like something they should have brought up against the original Wii if they REALLY thought it was being infringed upon. They're making me angry. :\
Raine
There's only one thing in gaming to ever talk about. http://youtu.be/2mZssK05WYo
Agro
Possibly. But something like a game itself could warrant its own thread since it's likely to continue fostering discussion around itself.Whereas a news story on like the business side, unless it's huge, is likely to only spawn small discussion that would normally result in a short and dead thread soon after being posted. It's for the latter threads, I'm suggesting that we put together into this one. Makο
This is a bit old, but I don't think ANYONE knows about it. http://vc3translationproject.wordpress.com/ Valkyria Chronicles 3 on the PSP, which never got an official translation, got a FAN translation on Christmas Day last year. Since then, it's only gotten one or so update, the DLC is non-translated (since you can use the patch with the EXTRA EDITION), and to be honest, it's really, REALLY rough of a translation at a lot of places. To top it all off, a lot of text-boxes aren't coded for English, so about 20% of the time text is unreadable, either from not being their or just out of the box. However, it's not like you never know what's going on (I'm still following the story 100%), and it's a hella fun game. I've put over 60 hours into it so far. If you were a fan of the first two, or a fan of turn-based strategy, consider grabbing some custom firmware (works with 660PRO-C2) and snag an iso from online (since I couldn't figure out the self-patch, there was a website offering a couple download links for the game already patched for you). Polygon just ran an editorial today about fan-translated games and guess what game came up?http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/14/5335288/fan-translations-japanese-western-localization-translation-gamesI never played the first two at all, so I don't think I'll jump through the hoops necessary to get the game running tho... especially on mac. '3' I can't imagine it'd be too hard. I have a Mac as well. If you have a PSP, just plug it into your computer (which will be read as a external HD) and follow all the instructions to install the custom firmware. And by instructions, I mean you literally drag and drop the files into giant FULL CAPS folders. That's all. Then you just do the same with the actual .iso, which is the file PSP games are encoded as. As for an emulator... I can't really say.
