I always choose my starter based on what the rest of my team is. AS's might end up Mudkip which is saddly the only one I don't have HA,

British Soul, I could see them doing that. I would love one myself. I can see Contrary being really useful.

I usually like going Grass/Water/Fire for a really generic, "you'd see this on a trainer in-game team," but I know I want Pokemon from all those types already.

Ended up going with Treecko.

My team plan as of now is

Sceptile

Ludicolo

Camerupt or Torkoal

Me

Skarmory and/or Flygon

Maybe one other guy

You know... I really need to get around to doing this: Transferring my Sceptile from Sapphire all the fucking way over to this game, just for kicks.
I can then all it 'Sapphire 2 the Revengenence'

Oh, and I'm thinkin' about going with Mudkip.
I noted why, like, much earlier in the thread(at least if I remember correctly)

Gen V and VI were indeed the best times to raise competitive Pokemon. Lots of new mechanics and Pokemon abilities/moves/tricks I cannot list all of. Gen VI especially was truly the hallmark of competitive battles since Super Training, Horde Battles, and Advanced Breeding mechanics with the Destiny Knot/Everstone and the bike routes make it all things worth to do after the boring post game.

Competitive has ruined Pokemon for me.  Now I can't have a Pokemon in my party if it has a bad nature.

I'm not sure how much of my inability to use bad natures comes from my competitive play experience and/or just having a Garchomp with -SPE or ATK is just miserable. Generally I just look for them to have an ok nature that doesn't screw over what I want out of them.

I'd argue Gen 4 and Gen 6 are. 4 REALLY made a lot of changes that was a shake up for the scene. Though, admittedly it might be a bias on my part because that was where I started getting into it and I felt Gen 5 was a let down on the competitive end. Ben 6 really did wonder is making breeding competitive pokemon a cake walk. I have over 70 for this very reason even though I don't play a ton. Honestly, at this point it is just my way to kill time while listening to podcasts. Its like my very own zen garden.

Yeah, I made a habit of breeding too just out of boredom, and maybe for when it's time to get revenge on the Maison with my own competitive Pokemon.

I still f**king hate that the Move Tutor moves cost BP. BP is one of the worst god damn mediums for exchange since it takes sooo bloody long to grind for what you want, and you know the AI is going start cheating at some point too.

Also, I read on Serebii that re-fighting Wally in the Battle Resort has a 1% chance of him giving you an Ability Capsule after you beat him.

Poke bank makes BP a joke. Simply breeding gives you pokemiles you can have changed into BP there. I've gotten hundreds this way. It also helps that unlike past gens where it took forever to get, at least here you get enough for 1 item per run. Still takes a while, but its a major step up from before.

BP is so easy to accumulate with Bank. My XY easily got hundreds of BP because I put a lot of my breeding rejects on Bank before eventually cleaning out those boxes.

I have been spoiled a little bit by semi-competitive play, but not quite so obsessive. I prefer not to use Pokemon with natures that hinder their best stats. For example, I won't use a Jolteon with either a -SpATK or a -Spd nature, but I'll take a neutral nature or one that boosts irrelevant stats. Just so long as it's not HINDERING them where they shine.

I found X quickly got enough BP to get the evolutionary items, so it's become too easy to get them in my opinion.

Not interested in playing Competitively. Hidden Abilities just gave me something to keep coming back to the game for, or collecting. I decided I rather lazily play Pokemon, only sometimes carrying about natures and others not caring at all.

Might get Kakuna to Lv 100 on search, then start hoping will evolve to a HA Beedrill. If that actually works.

Keeping any Scatterbugs I get, might be late to the party, but it's something to do.

Would love to see how many 'miles' your pokemon has accumulated. Granted I am giving 30 easy to get Zorua. Might see X and OR to Wonder Trade given X has most of the 'useless' babies when I was trying to get a Timid Protean Froakie among others.

Oh man. They should call Vivillon the Trading Card Pokemon.

Breeding Pokes for the sake of getting a good nature is a freaking pain in the ass.

Trying to breed my Gligar to at least aim for Impish/Careful Nature, and when I finally get either one, it isn't Immunity. For f**k's sake there should be a held item that keeps Ability aside from Nature.

It's bad enough that Gligar offspring from my Male HA Gligar have 3 possible Abilities, with some variable IVs, and even if I tried to breed with a Female Gligar with a good Nature, somehow none of the offspring have HAs.

One of the first things I did when I started mass breeding was catch a TON of Dittos. It basically lets you freely fix the natures of the pokemon when you start allowing you to avoid dealing with the RNG on the nature.
