So Mega Sceptile has Lightningrod. I can definitely see the lightningrod on its design.

Mega Swampert has Swift Swim.... well then,

Lightning rod, I like it. Not the best or most obvious one but it could be awesome. Switch in on Electric attacks and get a boost sounds good to me. The biggest draw for me is this means no Thunder Wave, so it doesn't get its sweeping potential nerfed by Paralysis. Depends on the stats but Sceptile could become really amazing competitively.

Aww, no Sap Sipper... But wow that's potentially really scary. Makes Swampert able to stand up to Blaziken really well in the rain. And since it gets Ice type attacks.... Swampert might have the advantage over the other two now, interesting.

I don't....quite get WHY the big beefy thing gets Swift Swim but I'm not complaining.

Especially given the fact that Mega Sceptile has x4 resistance to electric attacks.

I was thinking the same thing.

However, Archie's new design doesn't sit well with me. Upon a closer look, it looks like some sort of super hero reject. At least Maxie looks SORT of like a Team Boss.

He's a pirate lord, bitch!

I'm sure I'll make use of it in the many double battles I won't be having.

Because of all the silly fanart that can be made. Duh.

Because those biceps must give it like the most ridiculous butterfly stroke.

I wonder something. People tend to think Flash Fire is a good ability in singles, yet push Lightning Rod to the double battle zone. Why is that? Lightning Rod gives you a free boost on a Electric attack switch in, while Flash Fire just powers up one type of attack. I don't think Fire is much more common of an attacking type what with Volt Switch, Thunder Wave and all those powerful Choiced electric types.

Lightning Rod also intercepts electric attacks aimed at your partner. Flash Fire only absorbs Fire moves on you. Therefore, Rod is just better when double battles are involved.

I'm starting to warm up to Mega Swampert after seeing art like this.

The guy also drew Mega Sceptile.

Fuck me.... After seeing that image of M-Sceptile, it is now my favorite Start Evo. Used to be Meganium....

True but that just means that Lighting Rod is better than Flash Fire in doubles. Doesn't mean it can't be used well in singles, since it does a similar thing to Flash Fire.

Sceptile's basically just proof of how they need to make more fast grass starters

That guy's reaction to Mega Sceptile made laugh, because my reaction was the exact same thing

If the orbs were Mega Stones, then it would require a good deal of bonding in order to link a Mega Stone inbetween a Pokemon and its Trainer. The orbs seem more volatile, and I'd deny the fact that they're responsible for Mega Evolution. Of course, I dunno how you would try to tame 2 terrestrial Legendary Pokemon, and the orbs themselves possess the holders according to the anime. Otherwise I could see some more drastic metamorphasis, but the way I feel is that it's more fitted to a Primal or Prehistoric form, just like Primal Dialga in Mystery Dungeon. The similarities between them seem to standout.

If When we get the Sinnoh remakes, I hope this means that Primal Dialga finally becomes playable.

LOVING Mega Sceptile and Mega Swampert right now, in terms of artwork. They both look like utter bosses!

Then again, I'm not so sure about Game Freak's choice of abilities for Swampert in particular. I'd rather they give him something more all-round useful than Swift Swim, considering that permanent weather is a thing of the past. I was actually hoping for Sap Sipper myself, which would've given the guy no weaknesses.

Lightning Rod on Sceptile seems cool enough though. True, they're now wasting a x4 resist with them throwing in a Dragon-type on top of its Grass-type, but at least it's invulnerable to Thunder Wave, and a Special Attack boost on switch-in is always handy to have.

I'm out for a day and this happens. The things I miss. Anyway:

Love the new Megas. Grass/Dragon is a sweet typeing Lighting Rod is a deceptively good ability on him. Buffpert is also sweet.

New character designs are cool, though some of the choices are...........strange. Like that they made the admins have a more specialized design.

At the very least it's neutral to fire.  Unfortunately, it's still weak to flying, bug, poison, other dragons and now fairies.

Flying and Poison aren't the biggest of issues imo and you should be able to outspeed every dragon ever and hit for 2x damage. Fairy types might be a problem, though if he ends up with a balance in his attacking stats it will be less of one.

It has 1 immunity, 2 4x resist, and...yeah. Not horrible, since that'd mean it can get a lot of free switch ins. Especially since it won't be tanking anything soon anyway.

You also resist ground. Two 4 times resists, an immunity, and a ground resist on top of that is actually really solid. He should have little trouble switching it.

Mega Swampert is legit, and now I really want Sceptile in Smash 4.

I've been saying he'll be in for a while. REALLY hope I'm right.

Yea, me and my friend think that might be enough to get him into OU. Megatile will destory Rotom-W and will make Metapert's life hell. Having an insane speed stat and being able to protect from para is also a REALLY major buff. The free Sp.Atk buff is just gravy.

Lighting Rod removes electric damage fyi.

Its been said, but Lighting Rod isn't really just a double battles ability. A free sp.atk buffs, and protection from T-Wave are both super major extras.

I think Swift Swim is fine on Megapert. Its a lot like Megadoom where you can run it as a way to buff a stat as well as set make your STAB attacks even stronger. Worse case, he is still a hell of a tank.

Yay someone shares my positive opinion of Lightning Rod.

That being said. The fact that they showed Mega Diance with the Mega Starters, instead of making the starters their own update, makes me think that these might be the only new Megas.

Latios/Latias and Rayquaza still possible. But that's it I think.

Though I still hope for a Mega Flygon.....
