Night
Elapsed time: 5.5 hours Layers: 1 99% scratched using only the pen-tool and mouse, the other 1% being text, obviously. No reference used. Usually when I vector or generally when I use the pen-tool I create each individual aspect of the piece separately, most notably on the cardinal piece, the feathers/beak/eyes/tail/etc. Which usually tends to net me about 80-130 layers, this time however you'll notice it was all done on one layer. The reason for this being that I made the overall shape and then practically chiseled into the focal with the pen-tool and then erased bits with a fade brush to create detail and shading. The wings for example are a composition of erasing and brushing in feathers at differing opacity and depth, which needless to say was a pain in the ass. Similarly, the horns were originally a solid grey that I erased bits of to create the design. Overall it was refreshing to leave my comfort zone slightly and experiment with a tool I've been using for about 4 years in a different way. cnc. .Rai
Vectoring is pretty faultless. Gone are your classic LQ lines of ages past. I mean, I have little to no clue what's going on here, but it's gorgeous anyway. Most of it's fairly self-explanatory, but the wings are painstakingly detailed. I'm not sure whether this was intentional, but the horns look metallic. One of the best rendering of a metallic sheen via vectors I've seen for a while. chairman ali
low contrast isn't working. Too much fade, can't see the detail. Post a higher contrasted version
Ire
I like the work you've done on this. But I don't like this creation. + cf Ali'
