Thar
I'm generally pretty open about my life, but I'll just put this here to be narrowed down to stuff people want to know. You know the drill.
Lunar Origins
As - with Matt - YCM's premier fiction writer, what was the thing you most enjoyed writing? And, if so, did you have any huge writer's blocks whilst writing it?
Thar
As - with Matt - YCM's premier fiction writer, what was the thing you most enjoyed writing? And, if so, did you have any huge writer's blocks whilst writing it? Funny thing is... my name is also Matt. Anyway, I said this in my other AMA, but my favorite thing to write was Night x Yin because of the court scene. Also, of course I got writer's block. Who doesn't? Hell, I even expect that to happen before I start writing, even when I'm on a roll. We live in a world where nothing comes out perfect the first time, which makes writer's block not a big issue for me. I know it's there, it just doesn't want to come out until the right time. Kazooie
As someone who wants to write things but is extremely awful at everything, do you have any general tips you would want to give people? :'o
Agro
Did you write any fan fiction here before writing the pairings?I don't recall you doing anything, and so I was a bit taken by surprised when everyone seemed to love them. To this day I have not read anything past which I am in, so I can't say whether or not I agree with them, but it did make me curious. Actually, no, that's a lie. It made me envious. As someone whose writing people seemed to like, but who could never keep it up, I admit I felt a bit scorned about you and your writing when it first came to my attention- that's part or most of the reason I still haven't read it. It's not a good feeling, and I apologize for holding a prejudice against you for it, so that's why I ask.Though branching off of that, as another question, do you write often, have you taken classes, and if you write outside of the pairings, what do you normally like to write about?Oh, and you have permission to use me in a pairing if you want to, without restrictions. I didn't want to be mentioned because I don't like being made a fool of, but that's a retarded position to take in a thread where everyone is a fool. Toffee.
Are your writings a reflection of yourself, or just some inner thoughts that you wish to be more open about?
Thar
As someone who wants to write things but is extremely awful at *it, do you have any general tips you would want to give people? :'o Fixed because modesty is one of my pet peeves. The only real tip I can give to anyone in regards to writing is to just do it. One of the main reasons why people choose not to write despite their desire to is because they don't want to have to deal with the feedback. Harsh reviews and the like can be intimidating and humiliating, but if you're willing to get out of your comfort zone and put effort into something that you are prepared to put more into at a later time, then you're going down the write path. There's just a pep talk for a general subject. Here's what I do: First thing is to gather ideas. Don't try and organize everything. Just browse whatever and fill up your arsenal. Once you have what you think you need, mix it up in your head until you come up with something that you find entertaining. DON'T WRITE IT DOWN. Just keep it swirling in your head until you memorized it. Next thing is to boot up Word, but instead of getting right to typing, look away from the screen (look at a wall or something), remember what you plan to write, and imagine it playing in your mind like a movie. Get a feel for it. Then once you get a good vibe on its happenings, replay it with commentary for which you plan to write it out with. Last thing to do is just write whatever you commentated. One last word of advice for while you're writing; take breaks often. If you feel like you're about to burn out, move away from the keyboard and take a walk. Burnouts are the worst kind of writer's block and usually much more long-term. People have ditched numerous amounts of priceless works from overexertion, and it's really sad. Thar
Did you write any fan fiction here before writing the pairings? I wrote a few things, but they either sucked or no one commented on them, so I ditched them. I also have a few crossovers on FanFiction.net, but those didn't get much attention either. I don't recall you doing anything, and so I was a bit taken by surprised when everyone seemed to love them. It's not a good feeling, and I apologize for holding a prejudice against you for it, so that's why I ask. As someone who's fics have been left in the dust for years beforehand, my reaction to this kind of attention was the same as yours. Hell, I look at some of the writers here who put more effort and passion into their works, and I just wish I could switch my fic's popularity with theirs and it'd STILL be more than enough attention for me. It's pretty overwhelming. So yeah, don't feel bad for feeling scorn towards me for that. I legitimately don't know why this happened. Though branching off of that, as another question, do you write often, have you taken classes, and if you write outside of the pairings, what do you normally like to write about? I've taken a creative writing class in high school, but that's it (and we only wrote like one actual short story. The rest was multimedia or whatever, not actually on Word.) I've always loved writing fantasies, but if I were to start taking writing into a larger scale, I might start writing romantic comedies. Oh, and you have permission to use me in a pairing if you want to, without restrictions. I didn't want to be mentioned because I don't like being made a fool of, but that's a retarded position to take in a thread where everyone is a fool. Yeah, I understand that. Satire can be a pretty hard blow when you're not prepared for it. Are your writings a reflection of yourself, or just some inner thoughts that you wish to be more open about? I'm pretty damn open, and my writing reflects only a part of my mind that, to me, is considered normal. If I were to unleash the true beast that is my imagination, I highly doubt that it'll either be allowed on the forums or understood by the readers. I can be pretty surreal when I feel like it. Thar
Eh, from what I read, I'm not sure if satire's the right word. Well, they're called "crackfics", so the key word here is "exaggerated", which is basically what satire is; exaggerated humor at others' expense. Agro
Well, they're called "crackfics", so the key word here is "exaggerated", which is basically what satire is; exaggerated humor at others' expense.Probably should find a different thread if we're going to discuss satire, but that's not really correct. Satire's exaggeration is done with a purpose, it has teeth. It's point isn't just to point something out, but to make meaning of it, act as a social criticism. Just exaggerating something for the sake of laughing at someone isn't satire.I would describe what I've seen from you as more of a parody.
Thar
But that would depend. Would it be purely erotica or.... ? Not necessarily. I have some mind-burning theories about the creation of the universe as well as some mythological arts and lore just waiting to be fleshed out. That and more. Erotica is merely a crutch, really. Keeps both me and the readers interested.

Use the soup as bait to lure it into the cave, then blow it up with dynamite to cave it in. 10/10 good plan

Thar
¿Why did u name yourself: "Shut up thar"? I didn't NAME myself that. That was just a meme that started during a chat hosted by the YCM Hotel one day. I was blurting out nonsense, and a guy called Creator kept telling me to shut up. Soon everyone else started doing it, and it eventually caught on outside of the chat. Honestly, I'm getting very annoyed of it.
