Let's see...

Mecha? Check.

Kids in their late teens? Check.

Gen Urobutcher? Check check.

Hype List:

Director: Ei Aoki
Story Concept: Gen Urobuchi
Series Composition: Katsuhiko Takayama (Ga-Rei-Zero, Sasami-san@Ganbaranai)
Character Design Concept: Takako Shimura (Wandering Son)
Character Design: Masako Matsumoto
Mecha Design: I-IV and Kenji Teraoka (Ghost in the Shell: stand Alone Complex,  Gundam 00)
Music: Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Kill La Kill, Gundam Unicorn)

Wonder how this'll turn out. I, personally, was rather pleased with Suisei no Gargantia, so who knows.

You had me at Gen Urobuchi. Or should I say, Urobutcher.....

You had me at Takako Shimura... that is to say, though, if I go through with it, this would be the second mecha after Gargantia I'd watch while airing. Looks great, and hey, Gargantia was pretty... fun. Let's just go with that.

Not exactly the most hype of names to me. Takayama has done, uh, "Series Composition" (what's that even supposed to be?) for two anime no one cares about, and Ei Aoki...well, maybe the fact that he's producing an original work instead of adapting a novel will improve things.

Uh, not to sound like I'm not excited. I'm ultra haipu for anything with Urobuchi's name attached. And based Sawano, too...

When I said hype list, I wasn't REALLY calling the list "hype." More like, I was just giving it a dumb title.

HOWEVER,

I AM hype for Gen Urobuchi and Hiroyuki Sawano. So it has some truth to it.

My thoughts:

I love the animation style. Character design is great.

Best Image is still:

Also Slaine is a really f***ing cool name, I like his design and I hope he shows up often.'

I like how folks in New Orleans are all speaking Japanese for some reason.
Lots of hopelessness, I'm a little disappointed they pulled out the "soldier who doesn't care about civilians vs combat troops" card, especially so early. The dude just seems like a complete douche. Don't like him as a character one bit.

Still trying to decide my thoughts on the main character's lack of care for anything.

Oh, and I did like that they killed his friend so quickly and so early. He was kind of a perv and they needed to show that anyone could die on a whim.
Yeah, f*ck the guy that got like five minutes of screen time and then died just trying to protect everybody other than that one person. I hope he's in hell now.

Well anyway, I'm finding myself really into this already. That might end up being dangerous but for now I really am just enjoying it too much. Then again I did watch this right after SAO so I'm sure even Love Stage would instill a similar effect.

10/10 Kalafina song, best OP/ED of the season easily(Even though I've only seen Rail Wars this season so far). Decent first episode, had me intrigued with the politics and the mecha. Hope this be a wild ride.

I'd like to point you to Tokyo ESP, which has a pretty great OP/ED... then again this is Kalafina... I still think Tokyo ESP has a better OP/ED
Don't like the way he's written, or just the character?
.... But Love Stage is legitimately good, even if you don't like shounen ai/yaoi
There is zero reason for anyone to like the character because of how he's written. He has no redeeming qualities. His only qualities are that he likes killing people and is a dick about it. It's a common trope in anything with fighting things, but he's not as intimidating or venerable such as, say, Frieza. He's a stock trope villain on the level of that wuss from the second half of SAO 1. It's lazy writing, really, especially if they just happen to kill him off before developing him further.
There's only been a single episode... still, I can't help but feel that that show is totally just what would happen if they made a show centered around Hideyoshi from Baka to Test.

Alright, so we got some good combat from this episode to kick off the war. I'm satisfied on that front so far.

I don't really care for the evil military guy either. Here's hoping he'll be quickly killed off before focusing on more interesting antagonists.

And I'm not really sure I'm into the MC being so deadpan. His friend just died and he can't muster any emotion?

I'm sure there's a reason behind it, but for the moment, it's a little off-putting, at least to me.
