How old were you when you Started Yugioh Card Maker?

I was just thinking back to the days when I started here I had a crappy old dell laptop with barely a 1GB of RAM, I was really into Digimon and I was about 14 years old(I'm 20 in 7 months, to put that into perspective), and I used spend hours making terrible avatars, signatures and yu-gi-oh cards because my laptop was so slow that I could run photoshop that well.

Back then Yugioh Card Maker was set as my Homepage.

Do any of you have memories of your first couple of months/ your first time coming to this website, and if you've been her since before all these fancy forum skins, why do you still come here? Is it for the community? fan-fics? I came here out of sheer reminiscence.

I'll probably stay for a while too.

What was your old username?

I joined in the summer of 2008 and I remember trying to join a club called "the A-Team" and not being able to after failing to be able to post cards.  Those were the days.

I remember getting neg reps from a guy named Tiger and being so pissed off.

I remember when you couldn't post a thread called Unban Draco without getting banned.

I remember the trade forum when it was locked and the red and yellow star was forever grey.

I remember when Silent Hunter was the biggest thing since sliced bread until it turned out he stole all his card ideas.

I remember when you had to pay 1000, then 2000, then 3000 points for a name change.

I remember the lotteries that used to be held in games and were a chance to get real points.

I remember it all.

My very first account here was back in 07. That was when I was 14 when I joined here. Went dead for a while and after 2 years I made another account here thanks to the now dead member DailyNews (Kain) who reminded me of this place. (We both used YN). I just turned 21 this week, so... 7 years. Lol cool.

I joined in 2011 when I was 18. I made some written cards, got really into trying to make good cards despite my lack of experience, no one cared so I stopped. Hung around for a while, then left for a longer while. Back now because it was fairly interesting to be part of a forum.

Also I remember there were many, many ponies.

I first joined on December 7th 2010. I had just finished High School so I was 17. I had taken a break from Yugioh for a couple of years and came back. Stumbled upon this place when looking for good forums to post decks and talk about cards.

Who knew this site would become the death of me.

Saw this site and used it a bit around middle school. Tested it some more when I got to high school, and made a 1st account at 2011, possible at age 16, but I used my facebook and couldn't change the name until 2 years later I asked a super mod to do it (Google is your friend.)

Made a second account, this one, in 2012, at maybe 17, and quit a while due to a some now-banned member, who answered my question I posted a topic about but got on the defensive about it.

I then came back and lurked when I got to the General thread and saw actual intelligent responses to some issues going on, decided to come back to a community I thought would be more proactive but not as much like it use to be when I see the General threads now.

I found YCM on my 14th birthday, August 26, 2006. Hanging out with my best mate at my house, we did a Google search for a Yugioh Card Maker, thinking "surely some idiot has invented one."

Back then, an early version of the current online card maker (called "Version 2") had only just been released, in addition to a program that needed to be downloaded ("Version 1"). Initially, I only found Version 1, and couldn't get it to work, so I registered to the forum to find some technical support. I still have Version 1 on my computer. I might upload it if anyone was ever interested, as the original links are all broken.

The InvisionFree forum still exists though: http://z12.invisionfree.com/Yugioh_Card_Maker/index.php?act=idx

It was the first forum I'd ever used, and because I was active around the forum replying to most topics (the only forums on the site were Created Cards, Questions & Help and General), YCMaker made me a moderator, which I enjoyed and kept me returning to the forum. A few months later in late December, with the InvisionFree site more active than ever (having started back in June 2005), YCMaker created the MyBB forum, from which this IP.Board was converted. The yugiohcardmaker.net domain didn't come along until January 2007 I believe. Up until that point the domain was "ficati.com".

I never did much card making, and despite still owning my cards and enjoying collecting and duelling back in the day, I never watched the show, was I more than a casual player, and aren't the typical YCMember who enjoys other Eastern culture aspects like anime, so many parts of the site have never interested me besides General. I made a lot of good now real world friends here, and learned a lot about a lot of different things. Being the only active Super Moderator here for most of 2007 when the site rapidly evolved from nothing to about 40,000 members, it was genuinely stressful for a 14 year old. I'm not too proud of how it ended, and I haven't been genuinely active since February 2008.

Anyway, a lot of those relationships have waned, sadly, excluding BehindTheMask who is the most based person in history. So in August it will be 8 years and I'll be 22. Maybe I can make some more friends, maybe not. Either way, it's nice to be back. It only takes me 10 minutes a day to clear the forums I'm interested in reading anyway.

The end of that story was quite sad.  Making relationships from YCM work out in the long run is basically impossible.  I only really chat to Brandon Geren/JesusBowtie after he's gone from YCM and that's just music.  I'm also friends with The Rebel and Yankee on facebook, but those aren't really real friendships.  I wanted to stay friends with Olly but he never accepted my request.

The most real friendship I have made is with Matt Enloe (and Josh to a lesser extent) whom I talk to about a variety of things.

A better story then most of us here have, that's for sure. I joined in 2010, but for my own reasons not gonna put my age down.

I've been a member of this site for almost four years, and while to a number of people here that may seem like nothing, it means a bit to me. When I joined I was highly depressed, spent most of my time moping really. It was nice to have a place to get away to in some form, even if I didn't always get along with some of the people who were around.

Following joining, I fell in with the Absolute Powerforce, which was both the best thing to ever happen to me and also one of the worst. I met Black, my boyfriend of three years now and my future husband. I got to talking to him, and while I did talk to other people, he was the one who also cared the most about me. Sadly, even with the people to talk to, I was still pretty shut in and depressed, and around January 2011 I really began to contemplate suicide. I mean, no one in real life was particularly close to me at the time. I was still trying to recover from finally being away from my abusive biological dad, and while my life was improving, I was a bit too deep into my shit to really be able to tell...

March rolls around, things only seem to be worse in my eyes, I had been arguing with my family a lot, and I was just sick and lonely. Still talking to Black and Andx mostly, but Black was still the one I would go to first. I was on Duel Monsters Genesis with him and it was late at night while I was testing a deck to try and get ready for a dumb tournament coming up when I had a breakdown. I was really... Unstable that night, and he talked to me and helped me through it. I was okay that night, but things were still really messing with my head and I was ready to kill myself. I even had a little thing written out to tell some of my few friends why, even though I know now that would've just made it worse really... Then, on March 17-19, Black tells me he loves me, then on the 19th we really began dating.

I can't imagine what he saw in me then, but all I know is that if I didn't make the mistake of joining YCM, I would be dead right now. The forum might be filled with idiots on occasion, and I might not get along with everyone here, but I'm still glad it existed. YCM has caused me a lot of trouble in the past, mainly by a few members who have thankfully moved away and not shown up again with the exception of a few, but all of that trouble was worth it in order to still be alive.

I still have suicidal thoughts, and I'm still pretty shut away most of the time, but I've slowly been doing better and at least trying to get out of my shell a little. If it wasn't for YCM, Yugioh, and Black, I would be dead right now.

You go birdie you go

Now this, this is romance.

I really like how you stuck through all that crap.

Giving me hope too, giving me hope too.

This may sound weird, but thanks for that post.

I usually avoid trying to make longish posts, but... Sometime's it's nice to get these things out. ^^''

I'm glad it's helping you some, some topics are really important to me, and well... This topic just happened to lead into one of them x-x

Damn I feel bad for being mad at you for so long ._.

The feeling is mutual. x-x

I took out a good bit of my anger at some people who didn't necessarily deserve it. You annoyed me back then sure, but you didn't really deserve even half the shit I felt towards you.
