How I Met Your Mother Finale (Obviously Spoilers)

Hated it. HATED HATED HATED HATED it

Lolopinions

I'm not so much a shipper of anyone (except Ted and Tracy, the mother) and even though they killed off Tracy and paired up Ted and Robin in the end I'm not too salty over that. The execution of it was just awful.

They rush through everything. They spent 21 episodes on a 72 hour weekend, and rush through the next 16 years in 45 minutes.

I remember reading that Carter Bays and Craig Thomas filmed the ending scene (with the kids) way back in 2008. It really shows. It's the ending that would have made sense in 2009 or 2010, but the show went on for much longer than that. After the show so thoroughly insisted Ted and Robin would never happen and that Ted and Tracy get their happily ever after and Robin and Barney are awesome together, it kinda just took a dump on everything they developed to have Ted end up with Robin after all.

And as much as I like Ted and Tracy together, it might have been mitigated if they showed more of them together. Showed her passing, showed her funeral, showed him grieving, showed Robin and friends comforting him. They kinda just quickly went over her death like she didn't matter.

tl;dr - Even though I hated the events of the finale, it could have been mitigated if they weren't so poorly executed. Unfortunately... yeah.

I agree with you on EVERYTHING. HIMYM is one of my favorite shows still, if not my favorite, but god this finale. I loved Tracy, I was finally content with everything, and then they killed off Tracy. I mean, I don't mind them killing her off, Barney fathering some unknown womans child, Ted and Robin hooking up - in fact, I think it's an okay ending. I would've been happy with it if it were done better. We had basically a season and tons of episodes leading up to Barney and Robins wedding, the drive there, the preparation for it, etc, just to break it up 10 minutes later. They took 10 minutes out of an episode to close so many things that it couldn't be done. If they had taken the last episode and split it up into a few episodes, ie instead of Marshall driving to the wedding or something, they could've covered so much more ground. Shown Ted grieving for Tracy, shown the divorce, shown Ted ending up with Robin, etc. Instead, they just squish it in like some goddamn filler. UGH.

Still no Dexter finale, though.

I'm on season 4, tell me, does it end well or?

Oh sweety honey baby.
If you're totally sure...

Series finale is absolutely terrible and crushingly disappointing. The show doesn't get s*** until season 6 or so though, so keep watching.

also watch suits, you'd like suits

I did, it's what I WAS trying to do in the first place but whatever. Figured I might as well put how I felt about the ending in a spoiler but whatever.

Back on topic, I guess Marshall actually becoming a judge semi redeems some of it. JUDGE FUDGE

Oh honey!

It ends poorly. Very poorly. Or so I'm told, I never watched it. I believe it starts getting bad, then keeps getting bad, then spirals into out of control badness and then the ending is just stupid.

But don't take my opinion on it. Watch it yourself I guess...

On-topic: My one hope is that... idk, there's like a ton of deleted scenes on the DVD or inevitable bluray that helps.... properly set the ending up or doesn't gloss over things as much. What the creators should have done when filming the kids though is film like... every possible ending they imagined. Not only would that have taken care of anything changing in their plan (because they planned for all, or many of the changes) but it would also protect the ending because the kids filmed about 10 or so different endings so even if they remembered it wouldn't matter.

I thought they did an alright job of introducing her. She met everyone else before she met Ted, and we randomly cut away to cute little scenes in the future involving Future Ted and the Mother

Some people thought she was a breath of fresh air to a... rather stagnant show. Others thought she was a manic pixie dream girl Mary Sue who was just "female Ted".
