I love Mario Kart.  When I recently played Mario Kart 7 again, I was bummed to realize how rusty my skills got; I only got 2 stars for 1 in every 4 cups instead of 3 stars for every cup.  I must rectify this error.

Also, I'm excited for MK8.  Double Dash is the best Mario Kart game imo and I felt that DS was overrated (Even if it was good, it's not the best Mario Kart game like most people claim it is).  Someone should remake the YCM MK7 community, and we should all add each other and host online races again.

Is anyone here actually of the opinion that the latest Sonic & All Stars Racing has been better than latest Mario Karts? I keep reading about it from more than a few writers and critics that said Transformed was better than Wii and 7. I disagree, but I was wondering what the thoughts were of people who've played both extensively as I only had hands on with Transformed once, and I wasn't that enthralled by it.

Everyone's favorite MK tends to be the one you grew up with. There's been studies. I did a study. I mean I asked 2 friends and they agreed.

Anyway, I disagree that MK DS was overrated. It perfected the controls of the game. Double Dash's main problem was that all of the karts were floaty. It was awful going back to it after playing newer ones. Albeit, it was better than 64, which I still labor over when playing. DS, on the other hand, stacks up really well against even MK7 and honestly, I feel had better characters and kart choices than both Wii and MK7. In other words, I think DS is still the best.

I actually grew up with 64 as my first Mario Kart game.  DS still scores higher than it imo, but I honestly hated the snaking in DS.  Plus, some of the tracks could have been better (Luigi's Mansion and DK Pass were terrible imo), but it still has some of my favorite tracks in the series (Tick Tock Clock, Airship Fortress and Waluigi Pinball).

I actually heard great things from Transformed, I plan to buy it soon.

And yes Arm, I love Crash Team Racing very much as well. XDD

I'm still thinkin they should make a Super Smash Bros Kart

With every racer using their series kart

Like Kirby uses a star

Cpt. Falcon uses the F-Zero

Mario crew uses their own karts.

Sonic uses the behicle from Transformed, or his Board from Sonic Riders

DK uses the mine kart

Etc

I suppose I never had to deal with the snaking problem since I didn't really play online all that much.

That being said, I really liked the consistency of the power slide, which, while snaking is a result, I felt made the game more technically sound.

Can snaking really be considered such a problem though? Isn't it comparable to wavedashing or L-cancelling in something like Smash Bros? (also, isn't it possible in 64 & Double Dash?)

Ah yeah, snaking.

Me and my friends used to get together before school and play Mario Kart DS. Me and one other guy would always snake our way to victory while everyone else called us cheaters and refused to play with us. lol, good times.

It's always a problem when someone puts in an implied gameplay mechanic that's absolutely game-changing.  Unlike wavedashing or L-cancelling in Smash Bros however, snaking is an implied mechanic that only works with certain vehicles in the game.  Everyone will then pick those certain vehicles just because they have the ability to snake.  It's like when everyone picked Maka Wuhu online pre-patch just because they know of a secret shortcut to skip half the level.  Where does that leave the other players that don't know how to use that secret shortcut?  I'm fine with implied gameplay mechanics, but I'm not fine with implied gameplay mechanics that are needed to be learned or else the player sucks.

I understand if it's problematic if certain vehicles can't do it, but I'd think it wouldn't be a problem if all vehicles could.

I feel it's very hard to win in Melee if you can't L-Cancel or Wavedash while the opponent can. Without being told about them, I wouldn't have any idea what they were, and I can't execute either at all.

Seeing as only certain karts can use it, however, I understand the dislike of the mechanic, although I greatly enjoyed the consistency in knowing just what you had to do to get a power boost whereas in MK7, it feels much more random since time x angle of turn is involved.

It's been forever since I've played Seven... Does it have a way we all could get on and race through online?

That would be pretty fun honestly, since 7 is probably one of my favorite Mario Karts.

I believe there is.

Im currently in the training proccess of Mario kart 7 XD

I have 1 star, and just need one more cup to get to 2 X3

Soon, I will have 3, and the world will bow down at my feet. XP

The nostalgia goggles can often be very tight. I do agree with what you said about MK DS. The way that controls vs the earlier games is so different. When my friend went back to double dash cause he loves it I found trying to play painful because the control didn't feel right.

As someone who plays Yoshi all day every day in Multi-player mario games I never noticed the extra characters and more karts isn't something I really care about since once I find one I like I just use that one. For me, the tracks are my favorite thing about MK games and as we get more the selection on gets better, partly due to them bringing back the best old tracks.

DS one had great gameplay, but the turbo you get from the R thing, especially with Yoshi, was broken xD

MK7 has great tracks, and the jump mechanic is nice.

As well as the aerial and sea parts....moreso the aerial parts.

Kirby Air Ride is underrated, IMO.

What if that Rosalina trailer wasn't actually a red herring and he's actually going to be in MarioKart. COULD YOU IMAGINE.

I can.

But then again, I can also imagine a Sonic All-Star Racing x F-ZERO developed by SEGA, so, you know, there's a lot up there.

Kirbys Air Ride is really fun XD Especially in Multiplayer.

The fact you can just race around the city freely with all the different stars parked in a garage neatly, waiting for you to take them for a spin, is awesome.

I loved Kirby Air Ride's city mode.  Just about anything can happen in it.

Also, I got 3 stars in every track on 7 within 3 days of getting the game.  Did you know that Tick-Tock-Clock is one of the confirmed tracks for 8?  Can't wait to play as the Koopalings.

Ah... Mario Kart 64 was one of the first games I ever played. When I was a kid, being the younger brother I normally only ever played multiplayer games with my siblings and cousin. But that was one of the big ones, very important to me.

That being said, I actually prefer the handheld games, if only because I grew to not like consoles as much over the years.

As for other kart racing games. Never played any of them but I keep hearing good things so maybe I'll try some out.

It was actually more or less learning how to control the race.  Start off at a high place to gain momentum and collect as many coins in your path as possible.  Your momentum will gain rapidly.  Powerslide often and you should be in 1st place.  Perform tricks as often as possible and make sure to keep your guard in the back as much as possible.  Though Blue Shells and Lightning Bolts will hinder your progress, you are safe from pretty much everything else.
