Card Requirement

Create a viable RUM card. Simple, yet effective.

Card A

Der2h7W.jpg

Target 1 face-up WATER Xyz monster you control; Special Summon from your Extra Deck, 1 WATER Xyz monster that is 1 Rank higher than that monster you control, by using it as the Xyz Material. (This Special Summon is treated as an Xyz Summon. Xyz Materials attached to it that were originally WATER monsters also become Xyz Materials on the Summoned monster.) During your Main Phase 2: you can detach 1 Xyz Material from a WATER Xyz monster you control and discard 1 WATER monster to the Graveyard; return this card from your Graveyard to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Rank-Up-Magic Depth Force" once per turn.

Card B

Rank-Up-Magic Pendulum Catalyst
Spellcaster/Pendulum/Effect
*******
DARK
2500/2100
Pendulum Scale:
Blue: 8
Red: 8
Spell Effect:
You can only activate the effects of ”Rank-Up Pendulum Catalyst” once per turn. During your Main Phase, you can target 1 Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon from your Extra Deck, 1 ”Number C” or ”CXyz” monster with the same Type as that monster but 1 Rank higher, using that monster as an Xyz Material (This Special Summon is treated as an Xyz Summon).
Monster Effect:
This card gains 100 ATK for each Xyz Monster on the field. You can tribute this card; Add 1 ”Rank-Up-Magic” Spell Card from your deck to the hand, but you cannot activate cards with that name during this turn. You cannot Special Summon monsters with the same name as this card for the rest of the turn.

No votes on this yet? Guess I get first crack at it.

I'm not gonna pretend that I ever played Merlanteans or any WATER deck beside Frogs(a long time ago), so in truth I don't know first hand how well Card A would work in play, but I see the obvious connection. What I like about it is that it forces you to use WATER monsters, meaning that you are forced to make a more cohesive deck instead of spanning a ton of different Xyz monsters and what not. At the same time, you have the added problem that it is pretty limiting as to what you can do with it meaning it wouldn't be as competitive as other RUM cards.

The Pendulum Monster really took me by surprise and I had to go back and double check to make sure that the requirement didn't say RUM Spell Card or something of that nature, but it seems that Card B still works well within the parameters, so kudos on creativity there. I actually had to go look up Pendulum Monsters and Pendulum Summonings so that I could comment, but I think I have a well enough understanding to share my thoughts. It's Spell Effect is simple, yet very effective, pretty much withdrawing any set backs that other RUM cards have by being more specific(see Card A). The Monster Effect, I feel, ties off the RUM flavor by allowing the searching of other RUM cards.

I liked both cards, but my vote is going to have to go with Card B for a few reasons. First, and most importantly, is the creativity exhibited by designing such a card. I never would have thought to go outside the box like that, so again Kudos. While I congratulated Card A for supporting more cohesive deck building, the thing that really pushes me away from your card is the bracketed text.

(This Special Summon is treated as an Xyz Summon. Xyz Materials attached to it that were originally WATER monsters also become Xyz Materials on the Summoned monster.)

What I am getting from this is that the Xyz Summoned monster only gets the WATER monsters that were attached to the Xyz Monster, which I think is past the limit of fostering cohesive decks and rather becoming too limiting on the card.  Card B gets my vote for creativity and more competitive design :D

Card A is a WATER version of Barian Force, except with the chance to reuse the spell card in question. However, that's about it, as it doesn't seem that interesting.

Card B was rather surprising, considering the fact I never heard of 'pendulum' monsters before, but focusing on the effect, they're quite intriguing. The spell effect is a RUM, and the main monster effect allows you to seek out a specific RUM card, though you have to wait till next turn to use it.

I'm going to vote for card B, because as I stated previously, card A seems rather bland, while Card B was completely unexpected.
