I can't be the only person here who watched this show.

(there was a thread on it like 2 years ago)

In my opinion, it might be one of the top 5 anime I've ever seen.

Serious emotional and character depth, abstract themes and mature concepts, an interesting and entirely original post-apocalyptic society.

There is literally too much amazing about this show for me to put it all in one post– no matter the length.

It's a dark and unrestricted look at a society with a fear of losing control over even a single individual.

And yeah, it's pretty much amazing.

More like Shin Sekai Yuri, amirite?

Yes, it's an outstanding show. Only a few animation and pacing issues kept it for being a perfect 10 in my books.

It's great for everything Agro said, and much more. My heartfelt recommendation for anyone that is planning to watch this.

Would definitely give it a 9/10 and recommend it to almost anyone. Show was amazing and beautiful.

If I remember anything from when I watched this weekly, it was thinking a few times that I didn't want to know the truth. The twist the show takes is not out of left field, but it does a good job of putting everything together. Was a bit jarring when they went to the second 'segment', but it doesn't take longer to adjust. With all that said, the ending is very satisfying.

The only part I was really down about it was a bit of a plot hole in the final leg of the show. It didn't really matter that much, but it was still important to note.
An entire monster rat army gets wiped out by the ogre, but it doesn't get hit with the you-know-what, yet when it does the same thing later to a single monster rat, it does get hit with it.

It could have been easily stepped around, and it was probably avoidable but it was definitely something that took my notice in retrospect. I just assumed when I was watching that it was all gas, not the ogre. Yet they seemed to retread on that later, so I wasn't exactly sure.

Thoughts?

I read the manga up until the point it was translated.

s***'s f***ed up.  Still, looks like the anime is worth watching.

The series is very unnerving.  Reminds me of Gantz in a way.

Also props for linking to Crunchyroll.  It really grinds my gears when people use illegal streaming sites when the same show is available (a lot of the time for free) on proper licensed sites.

Edit: So apparently the manga isn't the original work, and is pretty much trash, which is good cause I hated it.  Tried the anime, much much better.

Although I feel like letting everyone know that in the manga the Yuri is pretty much full blown hentai.

Almost constantly.

This show was so great. I just found it funny because no one really raved about it while it was airing, but a while after it ended, it suddenly blew up a bit.

But yeah, the plot and the mystery of it all were this anime's selling points for me. And you can tell everything's really well thought-out too.

Animation could be spotty here and there, but it's a really minor complaint in the bigger scheme of things.

 • 3 weeks later...

Yo, so if you didn't see my status, the Dub for From the New World comes out on April 15, and...

The list is SOLID AS FUCK. Personally, gotta say great casting choices all around. Props to Sentai. Can't wait for a trailer.

Only downsides are:
1. Only the first half and it's pricey
2. Disc and Box art decided to go with the minors-almost-having-sex scene. Good call, there, I'm sure.

That wasn't a plot hole
when s/he was used against the other rat army, it was said that the only thing she was used for was breaking that army's weapons, making them easy pickings for their still-armed opponents. It was stated pretty quickly, so you might have missed it though.
I went into this anime knowing nothing about it, and got blown away. 9.5/10 them feels and that ED made me marathon the entire show. Will definitely find room in my wallet for it.
Maybe I wasn't paying attention enough. I thought that the weapons were unharmed. Did she take away the weapons, rather than break them?

what happened was apparently, as soon as the battle began, s/he either levitated their weapons, or teleported them (can't remember, leaning towards levitated) and that left them defenseless, afterwards the weapons were found to be unbroken and unused, creating the mystery.

It was shown in the flashback I think, that they didn't have their weapons because s/he took them, but my terabyte Is broken, so I can't look it up to make sure.
