They only wanted to do 3 Dynasty Warrior Gundam games. However, since they felt nostalgia for the generation (first game released at start of last gen) they made this as a 'thank you', so to speak. At least, that was what the dev team said, iirc.

In total there will be over 120 playable units available in-game

Gameplay Features
Modes

  • Official Story Mode is returning
    • The total featured series number is 6, which are:
      UC0079 - Mobile Suit Gundam
      UC0087 - Mobile Suit Z Gundam
      UC0093 - Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
UC0096 - Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
CE71 - Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
CE73 - Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny

[Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ is no longer having Official story]
    • There will be a total of more than 50 stages from all above series combined
    • Official stories will be now more based on the entire series rather than individual characters like in past games
    • In most parts of the stories, the playable character will be the main character and his MS, however depending on the stories, there may be some parts where other characters and MS may be used
    • So far the 1st Gundam, Unicorn and SEED are confirmed to start their stories from the very first episodes, but it is unknown yet if the rest (Z, CCA, SEED Destiny) will follow suit as well
    • Unicorn story will not go until the end because this time they will be following the OVA flow, and the OVA's final episode is still not out yet by the time this game is released
(Trivia: Unicorn's final episode will air on 17 May 2014)
    • There will be not only CG cutscenes, but some actual anime stills will be also included in the game story
  • Original story mode here is called Ultimate Mode
    • The composition might be quite similar to GW2's Mission Mode
    • The basic premise of the mode is characters from various Gundam series meeting up and battling each other in various locations
    • Series that do not have official stories featured in Official Mode will have missions loosely modeled after their stories

HUD
gw4hud2.png

  • The health bar has been moved back to the lower left corner
  • For the first time in GW series, the health bar now features the pilot's portrait
  • Thruster Gauge is now located above the health bar
  • Shotdown Count is now placed next to the health bar; the lower right corner now features a box that describes current missions
  • The new yellow bar left of the pilot's portrait is Burst Gauge, which will be explained below

Burst Mode

  • A limited-time powerup mode that is very reminiscent to DW8's Awakening Rage Mode
  • The newly added Burst Gauge will determine when it's possible to activate the mode
  • When the Burst Gauge is filled up, pressing R2 will activate Burst Mode
  • Attack power and speed will generally increase while Burst Mode is active
  • Other than that, the weapons will be at their max possible upgrade (max range etc), regardless of the current actual upgrade level
  • Burst Mode will have varying effects depending on the Pilot & MS selected
  • Example of Burst Types by MS:
    • Trans-Am (00 Gundams, Susanowo)
Increase movement speed and attack power
    • Magnet Coating (Gundam, Hambrabi)
      Increase attack speed and power
  • Burst Types by Pilots:
    • Battle Newtype (Amuro Ray)
Imbues slow motion to surrounding enemies
    • SEED (Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, Shinn Asuka)
Thruster Gauge won't drain out, enabling endless usage of Boost
    • Pressure (Paptimus Scirocco, Haman Karn)
Gradually decrease health of surrounding enemies
  • Depending on the MS, they can also temporarily equip strong forms, with examples mentioned in the unit list above (Perfect Strike Gundam etc.)
  • There is also another new feature related to this, Combination Burst, which is explained below

Combination Burst

  • GW3's Partner Strike has been improved into Combination Burst
  • As with GW3, units can be set as a Combination Unit in the pre-battle menu
  • Warships like White Base can now be selected as Combination Units as well
  • To execute Combination Burst, unleash an SP attack during Burst Mode (explained above)
  • If successful, the Combination Unit will show up after player unit has done its SP attack to unleash its own powerful SP attack
  • The Combination Unit's attack direction can be altered for the duration of SP attack; this includes being able to control warships for a brief time as well

Charge Shot

  • T button can be held to charge up and unleash stronger projectile shots
  • Any parts in the combo can be canceled into a Charge Shot
  • A charged shot can also induce chain explosion by default

Weapon Upgrade

  • MS Weapons like Beam Sabers, Beam Rifles and Vulcans can be upgraded individually
  • Example of upgrades are increasing range for melee attacks or adding consecutive shot count for ranged attacks
  • Upgraded weapons will be reflected in looks too; for example stronger beam weapons will launch bigger beams

Upgrade Plans

  • The blueprint system has been further improved into a new feature item named Upgrade Plans
  • These plans can be obtained by destroying enemy units and clearing missions
  • Upgrade Plans are to be equipped to the MS, which will then be granted stat boosts and weapon upgrades (the latter elaborated above)
  • At some point, Upgrade Plans can be combined to generate a more powerful plan

Other Gameplay Features

  • Mobile Armors are now playable as already mentioned in the unit list above
    • MA movesets are quite similar to Class 3 MS - 4 S-strings with a T charge attack launchable from any parts of the string
    • The camera scale is also adjusted when using MAs so that Mobile Suits including ace MS will look puny
  • Some MS with multiple packs like Strike Gundam can change packs by using certain charge attacks
    • For an example in Strike Gundam,
C2 (ST) - Changes to Aile Strike
C3 (SST) - Changes to Launcher Strike
C4 (SSST) - Changes to Sword Strike
    • The rest of the certain MS' moveset like S-string and other charge attacks will greatly differ in accordance to the pack equipped
    • It is not confirmed yet, but highly probable that the more recently spotted Impulse Gundam might have the same mechanism with its Force, Sword & Blast silhouette packs
  • The basic battle system is still similar to past GW games, however enemy aces will now have their own base areas, making them 'moving bases'
  • Map layouts will be more akin to GW1-2 rather than GW3's 'interconnected boxes'
  • Space maps are returning. They are still 2-axis, but this time they will be made to feel a bit more 3-dimensional
  • R3 button can be used to lock the camera to an enemy ace when the prompt is available
  • GW3 gameplay features Emergency Dash & Chain Explosion are also returning; for Chain Explosions, enemies will flash brightly gold before exploding
  • It is now also possible to lock on into ace pilots in MS as well, not just enemy MAs

Miscellaneous

  • The reason why they use Shin instead of 4 comes from Bandai: because since a lot of time has passed since GW3's 2010, they want to put the efforts into making a huge compilation which is this game
    • KOEI's Producer Koinuma also added that the first GW was published around the time PS3 was just released, and since they're able to continue the series until the next-gen PS4 will be almost out, this game shall be the best compilation of the current-gen GW games
  • Art style is returning to realistic touch like in GW1-2
    • The reason of returning art style is because they couldn't display as much units on screen if using cel-shading, so they went back to real touch in order to be able to show more units
    • However with this tendency (of showing more units on screen), framerate drops (60fps->30fps) are going to be expected as with all recent Warriors games
  • Visual damages like dirt stain and paint chipping will be reflected
  • Explosion effects are also to be made more flashy
  • Online play will mostly consist of 2-player co-op
  • Offline co-op is also available in splitscreen (PS3) or ad-hoc (PSV)
  • Cross-platform save between PS3 & PSV are confirmed, co-op play seems to be not cross-platform
  • Custom Soundtrack is also confirmed, which allows to set own musics in stages
  • There will be Downloadable Contents to be published post-release, the contents are said to be pretty much the same as the prequel
(For the record, GW3 had DLCs that consist of 5 extra sets of Mobile Suits & Pilots, and some more extra missions)[/spoiler]

*dlc marked things are already out in japan. So we don't know if we get it with the English game or not.

This is Shin Gundam Musou. Just the English port.

pre-ordered the s*** out of this as soon as it was announced. Cannot wait to play Endless Waltz Wing Gundam and Full Armor Unicorn <333

Oh great, so only one Musou game to get. Now I can either preorder this localized version for the PS3, or buy the nip version for the Vita. Sucks to have to choose, I don't know nip that well yet, but I prefer the game portable. What to do, what to do...

I'm thoroughly happy with the series though. Milliardo and the Epyon have been in since the start. And since then, I've grown attached to Roux, Char, and Cecily. Never really watched the animes until recently either. I got the first one because it looked cool, and i wasnt diasappointed. Now, I'm a tsundere Gundam fan.
