Glow-Up Bulb vs Spore

Recommended Posts

Card advantage is not everything. Bulb is not broken because it gives you a +1. Bulb allows you to make offensive Synchros with no field and a single monster in hand, "upgrading" a dead draw into viability. It also extends Synchro combos significantly by serving as Material twice in one turn.

I don't get how this is any worse then anything that Xyz do.

Although if by no field you literally mean nothing then that might be a bit different. But Xyz decks are all about Normal Summoning one monster and turning it into 2 or 3.

Take Constellars and Fire Fists as a rough example.

The idea Is that Constellar and firefist combos more often than not require 2-3 cards on field/in hand to do anything combo related. not to mention they aren't always live on field/grave. GuB on the other hand is a live combo piece at essentially any time on field or grave, and can be used up to 2x in the same turn. literally the only drawback is you have just 1 use.

You need one extra card when the entire engine can be searched and the monsters summoned search the search engine. Getting that hand is not hard at all. Honestly the decks running this have foolish burial and that's about it for searching Bulb. Maybe, just MAYBE Lonefire and 1-2 others like One For One but almost nothing in the "combo" can be searched.

I reallllyy can't see how it compares. It does require a bit of setup but that setup comes easily and goes easily. Same thing with Glow Up Bulb. One thing messes up and you have a useless monster just sitting there.

I think of it similarly, but you have to remember that it's also Splashable, and the mill has a chance of opening up even more graveyard combos. its more than likely banned because those 2 facts (always live for immediate combos after hitting field/grave, and splashable)make it really easy to break. personally, I see some the damage it can do to the gamestate, but I rarely got the chance to see it played (or play it myself) so I'm probably missing the combos that would otherwise be easy to see.

As for spore, outside of plants, you'll never see it, but one of my main decks for the past 5-6 years has been plants, usually with a spore in them, so I know better than to ever think of spore as a card to take lightly. it opens up literally every card in your extra deck for use, be it synchro or xyz, just by existing in grave. one time use means you have to be smart about using it, but the amount of times I've ended close games with it has proven to me the value of that card. After the advent of the sylvan, I get the feeling it'll flirt with the banlist a lot more often from now on.

I actually use Spore Dandy And Bulb (well used to bulb) as a mini engine in TGs. Worked great while giving Level 1 tuners and tokens to em.

Also, banning cards on chance is iffy.

Sixth Sense, for example, is a good card to ban. It has a 1/3 chance of massive drawing and a 2/3 chance to mill stuff, both of which are good.

This mills the top card of your deck. Some stupid thing could possibly rig that but that's what we call a gimmick. Last I checked, Konami does not ban cards based on gimmicks, for the most part. But yeah I hate that Sylvans most likely sealed these two card's fates.

Now Tengu is a point I forgot to make. XD

Something like that that literally generates two copies of cards is kind of bad.
