Akron The Void Lord
content I haven’t always been like this. Once, I was just like you, a normal human being, pondering over what his purpose is here in life. Purpose. What is it, really? A reason to why we were conceived? Such a thing does not exist. We were conceived so we could live. So we could survive. But I guess one’s purpose could be anything, if such a thing really exists. It could be to be next in line for the throne, to be married away to improve relations, to provide cash for the family, or some preposterous other reason. But listen to me, gushing about there being no purpose in life when I have found mine. It’s in my cards. My cards have never lost. Not once. I’m what you would call a “Duelist-for-hire”, of sorts. I Duel people for a living. And I’m really good at my job. I feel the cold and dry air of the city. I quite like it. It feels just so much nicer to my skin than the damned warm, moist air to the south. And my clothes do not like warmth. People nickname me “Shadow”, and, frankly, I can see why they call me that. I’m dressed entirely in black. A black jacket, black jeans, black shoes, black gloves, and even a black cape of sorts. It works wonders for intimidation, even if it seems silly to you. I turn around the corner, and I see my destination: “The Golden Light”. A club that’s apparently very popular around here. The colors black and gold are prevalent in the architecture, and it seems like it is straight out of some dystopian sci-fi movie. Apparently, this is where I’ll find my target. Some “b****” who apparently beat my client, and now he wants payback. Some people… Inside the club… God, I hate clubs like these. Clubs that simply play thundering dubstep and techno all night long while serving ridiculously overpriced drinks. The club contained one central dance floor where lights flickered manically while patrons danced like their feet were on fire. Around the dance floor, the black floor was raised slightly, on which there was tables and chairs and sofas, and even a VIP lounge. I had my customized black Duel Disk all ready and strapped to my arm, and my deck all set up. Now, all I had to do was find my target. I had the name of my “target”, Miranda Penny. So, my target was a girl. But I saw no females here, so I decided to go upstairs. Upstairs was not so big. It was split up in two sections on either side of the room, with a gaping hole in which you could see down to the central dance floor. It wasn’t even fenced off. I began scouring the area, but yet again, I saw no females. I was about to leave and come back later, when someone tapped my shoulder. I looked around, and the Duel-Disk wearing lady sent a punch flying my way. I quickly blocked it, and sidestepped the kick she sent my way in retaliation. I saw that she was about to send another blow my way, but she stopped as she eyes my Duel Disk. “Valoth Blackscythe.” She spoke. “Miranda Penny.” I replied. “Why’re you here?” She asked. “You know full well why.” I retorted. “Then let’s not waste any time.” She answered.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJGTPfqLFik
A few minutes later… This I did not see coming. Apparently the club had its own arena, as evidenced when the dance floor was cleared, the music was turned off, and a circle of twelve pillars rose from the floor, up to the upper floor, and we both hopped onto the pillars. “Okay, Shadow-boy. You familiar with the house rules?” Miranda asked me. “No. Please elaborate.” I answered. “Okay. After we both have completed our turns, two lights will shine on the pillars that aren’t the ones we stand on. We have five seconds to reach that light, or else you lose 500 Life Points. Okay?” She finished. I pondered over the rules. I found them to be quite interesting, and very suitable to the scenery. It was a dance with death. I nodded. We set our Life Points to 4000, and shuffled our decks. “Duel!” “My turn!” Miranda declared, and drew a card, increasing her hand to six cards. “I summon Etoile Cyber in Attack Position!” Miranda declared. (ATK: 1200) The elegant image of a woman claid in red with white flowing strips of cloth appeared on the battlefield, with a vicious stare in her eyes. “Then, I set two cards. Your turn.” Miranda ended, as the holograms of two over-sized cards appeared face-down on the battlefield behind her Cyber. “I draw.” I said, as I looked at the card I just drew: Dark Spawn. I didn’t need that now, but I might later, so I wouldn’t play it. I looked at the rest of my hand. I had: Nebula Soldier, Nebula Sea Serpent, Monster Reborn, Nebula Shield, and Nebula Commander. “First,” I began. “-I discard Nebula Commander from my hand to add one Dark Nebula to my hand from my deck.” I put the card into the Graveyard as I drew the Field Spell. “Then, I play my Field Spell, Dark Nebula!” I declared as I placed the card in my Duel Disk, and the image of the club around us disappeared as we were in the midst of space, with clouds of red and yellow gases everywhere. I looked at Miranda, and I saw that she was getting distressed. Almost if she was dreading what I would do next. “Then, I summon Nebula Soldier, in Attack Position!” (ATK: 1000) The image of the soldier, wearing tattered and worn armor, with withered skin and bone appeared on my side of the field. “Now, Dark Nebula’s effect activates. All Nebula monsters on my side of the field gain 500 attack and defense!” I declared, as my Soldier began radiating power. (ATK: 1000 → 1500) “Then, I set one card face-down.” I declared as I Set my Nebula Shield, just in case. “And my Nebula Soldier attacks your Etoile Cyber!” I declared, as the withered soldier stormed towards her elegant monster, sword drawn. “And now, his effect activates!” I declared. “When Nebula Soldier attacks a monster in Attack position while Dark Nebula is on the field, it gains 1000 attack during the Damage Step!” (ATK: 1500 → 2500) “Not so fast!” Miranda retorted. “I reveal my face-down card, Doble Passe! It makes your attack a direct attack, and then, my Etoile Cyber may attack you directly!” “And then I reveal my other face-down card, Negate Attack! Nebula Soldier’s attack is halted!” She declared, as vortexes surrounded her, and my Soldier had to retreat. “Now, my Etoile Cyber attacks directly! And when she attacks directly, her attack increases by 600!” (ATK: 1200 → 1800) Her Etoile Cyber rushed towards me, with a murderous intent in her eyes. I quickly revealed my trap. “Reveal Trap card, Nebula Shield! This negates your attack, as well as costing you 500 Life Points!” (Miranda: 4000 → 3500) “And now, Nebula Shield’s secondary effect activates! Now I can summon one Nebula Shield Token in Defense position!” (DEF: 2000) The shadowy figure of a shield appeared on my side of the field. “And its defense increases!” I added. (DEF: 2000 → 2500) “And while Nebula Shield Token is on the field, you can only attack that.” I smirked. How would she get past that, I wonder? Now, I noticed that while I was talking to myself, that I had forgotten to switch pillars. I rushed, and I barely made it. I could hear her laugh as I got to my feet. “My turn again!” She declared, and drew. “I summon Blade Skater in Attack Position!” (ATK: 1400) “Then, I play the Spell Card Polymerization!” She said. I was taken aback, I didn’t expect her to pull that that quickly. “I fuse Etoile Cyber and Blade Skater to Fusion Summon Cyber Blader, in Attack Position!” (ATK: 2100) “And, because you control two monsters, Cyber Blader’s attack is doubled!” My eyes widened. “And now, I equip her with Fairy Meteor Crush! Now you can’t hide behind your defenses!” “Cyber Blader attacks Nebula Shield!” The elegant blader rushed towards my shield, and in one swift swipe sliced it in two. Fragments of the shield flew back and hit me right in the gut. (Valoth: 4000 → 2300) “I Set one card, and end my turn.” She finished, and her Cyber Blader’s attack returned to normal. (ATK: 4200 → 2100) “I draw.” I declared, and eyed the card I drew. Mystical Space Typhoon. “I Set one card, and I turn Nebula Soldier to Defense Mode.” (DEF: 1000) (DEF: 1000 → 1500) “I end my turn.” I declared, and lept onwards to the next pillar. Luckily, this time I made it easily, and I didn’t lose Life Points. I was honestly enjoying this Duel. Miranda was a good challenge, and by the gods, I needed it. Now, I prepared for her move. “My turn!” She said, drawing a card, and eyeing it closely. It was most likely a good one. “I play a Spell Card, Monster Reborn!” Oh s***. I could already see what was coming. “I Special Summon Etoile Cyber from my Graveyard,” She declared as the elegant woman claid in red reappeared on the field. “And then, Cyber Blader attacks your Nebula Soldier!” The elegant blader rushed forward again, ready to strike. “Reveal face-down card! Mystical Space Typhoon! I discard one card and destroy your Fairy Meteor Crush!” I discarded Monster Reborn, and removed the Equip Spell… or so I thought. “Reveal face-down card! Magic Jammer! I discard one card and negate and destroy your Typhoon!” Miranda declared. Now I was in trouble. Her Cyber Blader sliced my Soldier in half, but her slash kept going for me. (Valoth: 2300 → 1700) “And now, Etoile Cyber attacks directly! And don’t forget her effect!” Miranda declared as the Etoile rushed for me again. “I activate Nebula Sea Serpent’s effect! When a monster attacks me directly, I may Special Summon him from my hand!” Now, a long, black figure burst out from the ground and coiled itself around the pillar I stood on. (ATK: 2200) (ATK: 2200 → 2700) “And the attack is replayed!” I declared, as her Cyber walked back in fear. “I end my turn.” I could see that she was shivering slightly. Now I had the advantage. “My turn!” I said, and drew. I had drawn Pot of Greed. “I play Pot of Greed, and draw 2 cards!” I drew my two cards, and I drew Negate Attack and Nebula Summoner. “Now, I summon Nebula Summoner in Attack Position!” (ATK: 1200) (ATK: 1200 → 1700) “And now Summoner’s effect activates! I add one “Nebula” monster from my Deck to my hand!” I took a Nebula Shadow, and shuffled my deck again. “Now, Nebula Sea Serpent attacks your Cyber Blader!” My serpent sprung forward towards her Blader, who was frozen in fear. It chomped her down in one bite. (Miranda: 3500 → 2900) “Nebula Summoner attacks your Etoile Cyber!” My Summoner conjured a massive dragon’s head that sprung out and swallowed her Etoile Cyber. (Miranda: 2900 → 2400) “I end my turn.” I was reveling in it now, and I leapt to the next pillar, and so did she. “I draw.” She said rather nervously. I play Pot of Greed!” She declared, and drew her two cards. Her face lit up as she saw her cards. “I play my Spell Card, Magical Stone Excavation! I discard two cards and add one Spell Card from my Graveyard to my hand. I take Monster Reborn.” Oh crap. Now I was screwed. “I use Monster Reborn and Special Summon Cyber Blader from my Graveyard!” (ATK: 2100) “And you’ve got two monsters on your side of the field, so Cyber Blader gets double the attack!” (ATK: 2100 → 4200) “Cyber Blader attacks your Sea Serpent! Once again, the elegant blader rushed towards me and my monster, and slicing my Serpent in two like it was made of butter, while I was hit by the recoil as my pillar shook. (Valoth: 1700 → 200) Now, I was close to giving in. Only one card could save me now. And the chance of drawing it was unbelievably small. “Now, my Cyber Blader’s attack returns to normal.” Miranda declared. (ATK: 4200 → 2100) “I end my turn.” She finished. Now, all I could do was hope. Hope that I drew that card. “I draw!” I yelled, and my worries were gone as I saw the card I drew. Desperate Dark Ritual. “I play my Spell Card, Desperate Dark Ritual! I pay half my Life Points,” (Valoth: 200 → 100) “-And discard my entire hand, and then I may summon any monster from my Deck or Graveyard!” She was shaking in terror. Shaking in fear of what was about to come. She knew what was coming. “I summon GOD OF ALATHOTH!” I roared, and I placed the strongest card in existence on the field. A black hole appeared out flew a dark dragon that emanated power and darkness settled down behind me. Alathoth roared, and Miranda screamed in fear. (ATK: 4000) “And now, I Tribute my Summoner to increase Alathoth’s attack by 1700!” (ATK: 4000 → 5700) “ALATHOTH ATTACKS CYBER BLADER!” I roared. Alathoth opened his maw, and out came a stream of darkness that enveloped her Cyber Blader, and it was consumed in the dark, while Miranda was screaming in pain. (Miranda: 2400 → 0) I won.

As the Nebula dissipated, Miranda’s eyes were empty, devoid of emotion as she fell down from her pillar and landed on the dance floor below, causing shrieks and screams from the startled crown below. Then I left as quickly as I came. Now you know my purpose in life. And that is to claim others. I am Valoth Blackscythe.
