Charizard_red_stuff.jpg

I came across this interesting picture on Google Images today, It depicts Red flying on a Pidgeotto and Green flying on a Charizard with hang on, ONE HORN?

Interesting Note: Charizard cannot learn Fly in the Generation 1 games.

I have yet to find the purpose of this artwork but It appears to be an advertisement.

So yeah, if any of you know what this picture is about, let me know and just generally talk about Gen 1.

I'm going to make an art gallery of Concept Art and Sugimori drawings in this thread, PM me anything you find.

Well, Yellow is a Gen I game. Charizard can learn fly in it.

I'm not exactly sure what the picture is for, as you've said, probably for promotional purposes. As for what it's about, "Pijotto Vs. Lizardon" Japanese for "Something vs. Charizard, makes it actually pretty obvious. Because of the name, I had actually thought it was Pidgeotto too, out upon closer inspection, neither Pidgeotto nor Pidgeot's Japanese name matches up, it could be before they completely decided on it's name, but I'm not completely sure, but I think what is shown bares a closer resemblance to Gen I's Pidgeot. It is interesting to see how Gen I made more errors, or perhaps things just really weren't set in stone (I'm sure some things weren't made quite the way they were intended, though), what with the Charizard horn.

Must have been concept.

EDIT: Charizard cannot learn fly in R/B/G
