Really, just listing them isn't much of a discussion >.>

Lelouch vi Britannia (Code Geass) and Holo the Wise Wolf (Spice & Wolf) are tied for my favourites. Lelouch is just so twisted, badass and fun. Holo's really cute while being extremely intelligent as well and despite suffering years of solitude she isn't an emotionless doll.

After them are Claire Stanfield (Baccano!) because solipsism is hipster and he's badass, Rider (Fate/Zero) who's the King of Bros and Oshino Shinobu (Monogatari Series)... idk.

oh ok

Male:

1. Ladd Russo (Baccano!)If you ask me, there wasn't enough of this guy to enjoy. He's twisted, he's morbid, he's cocky, and best of all: He's a f*cking boss. More of a boss than his actual boss, imo. Complete with prodigy gun skills and inhuman physical strength for a non-immortal... and every aspect of it works perfectly with his passion for blood and violence. It's the perfect combination.

2. L, Lawliet (Death Note)If Light hadn't descended as a character into a homicidal maniac, the two would've tied, and if Nate hadn't come after L and rubbed off on me as a rip-off of the guy, they would've tied as well. In the end, L portrays the most badass version of intelligence and wit that I've ever seen and hopefully ever will. The fact that half of the show, when he was able to filter down the best possibility of Light being Kira anonymously, really gave my liking for him a kickstart. Then after that, when he met Light, he showed his sensitive side, which made me warm up to him in more ways then just being a boss. He's just an all-around good character.

3. General Blue (Dragonball)I think I only reached the half-way point in the original Dragonball, but I was so glad to witness General Blue. When Goku faced the other two generals before him, I never cared for them albeit one was better than the other in some way. Then when Blue was introduced, I just couldn't get over how cool of a commander he was. The way he coordinated his unit was a cut above the rest of the antagonists. Though, that's not even the best part about him. The guy is unphased by women's charm. That weakness is shown in pretty much EVERY villain (and hero) in anything, but Blue resisted, and at that point I just f*cking loved him! To top it all off, the way he died was total bullsh*t, so since then I never cared for any other villain.

Female:

1. Gasai Yuno (Future Diary)Don't judge me; I'm a sucker for yandere characters, and Yuno was the one to justify that for me. Before I knew who she was, I kept seeing photos of her on this Anime fan page on Facebook, and she appealed to me in a way that made me want to watch whatever anime she was from. When I saw that it was on Hulu, I didn't hesitate to watch it, and god dang it I was not disappointed. The show is #3 on my top 3 animes, and 70% of my reasoning is for Yuno. Minene Uryu (ninth) and John Bacchus (eleventh) were the other 30%, but case in point: Yuno sold it for me.

2. Mako Mankanshoku (Kill la Kill)People are so negative towards this show because of the fan service, but if you look PAST all that, you see someone who skyrockets the standards for friendship. Mako is just the best f*cking companion of any protagonist ever. I mean, who else would have the heart to ride up in a minivan, swim through star matter, and embrace a big, bloody abomination that is the protagonist without any fear or hesitation and be able to turn her back to normal with a few slaps in the face and a pep-talk? Mako, that's who. Not only that, but if she sees food, she WILL find a way to get it, even if it means to catch money being fired at her from guns like freaking Keanu Reeves, and if you get in her way of eating what catches her eyes... you better listen to her when she says "STAY OUT OF THE WAY OF SOMETHING I WANT!"

3. Rin Natsume (Little Busters)I think the only anime that was more feelsy than Little Busters was Angel Beats. Other than that, this anime is pretty much a staple for those who like heartwarming animes. I started watching this after seeing LZ's avi and sig and pulled off his obsession for it. Again, I wasn't disappointed. I both love and hate him for making it exist for me. Aside from that, every character was lovable, but Rin stood out to me. Not only was she incredibly cute, but she related to me in SO many way. She's shy around others, she loves cats, and everyone annoys her. The second season basically doubled my love for her, as I was just so heartbroken by how depressed she was when she transferred to that other school. I just wanted to jump into the anime and hug her. Anyway, Rin is just another personality that I just love every bit of.

He's quite minor, but I really like Tenmoku Ikko from Shakugan no Shana. He's just so awesome.

He literally eats the bad guys for breakfast, and he destroyed Fecor's ultimate defence, Magnesia, like a hot knife through butter. Something no one else in the series who attempted it even came close to.

Well, I don't really try to sort out characters I know and rank them or anything. I guess my waifu of all time Nagato Yuki would be my answer...

Baccano-wise, I'm not even sure how the hell do you choose, literally everyone's pretty badass to an extent, even Dallas who redeems himself later on the novels. Only counting the anime I'll go with Claire and Graham. Include the novels, I'm obliged to add Czes-kun, Claire's granddaughter, and Elmer who only appeared a bit in the anime but was still kinda maybe important since he saved Maiza and all, I don't know.

Literally any character voiced by Sugita would also probably make it into my list somehow. Bloody Sugita.

I end up liking most Shonen main characters, but obviously Goku kinda stands out cause nostalgia. Also Luffy cause he's a nonstandard Goku (being a rubber guy is a pretty unconventional main character power)

Between L and Light I preferred Light

And then there are support characters/other characters like Itachi or Shanks.

As for females, definitely Medaka from Medaka Box no doubt. She too is a shonen main character though xD

Also, Captain Tylor from The Irresponsible Captain Tylor is probably the character I think is most similar to my current self

AND THEN THERE'S LITERALLY ALL OF THE JOJO PROTAGS THERE IS TOO MANY CHARACTERS THAT I LIKE DAMNIT

Sengoku (Cyber City Oedo 808): His excessive swearing (in the dub) and dickish personality are pure gold.

Morikawa (Cardfight Vanguard): 99% of his lines in the dub are quotable.

Brenten (Dominion: Tank Police): The criteria for all things manly. A massive tank (destroyed in the first episode BY A WOMAN DRIVER), a massive ego, and the sacrosanct belief that the bigger, the better.

Okay, honestly, I love DBZ, but Goku is a s*** character. He's so boring because he's not deep or complex at all, his personality is one of worst in all of the anime I've seen, and his logic of thinking is one of the worst ever in anything I've seen, anime, manga, TV, or movies; "I held back against Majin Buu because I wanted to give two annoying kids the chance to kill him and save the world. The result is that they get absorbed, along with Piccolo and Gohan, everyone else dies, and Buu gets even more powerful, I fuse with Vegeta, and once again, my cockiness gets the best of me, leading to a mediocre final fight with Buu, and an ending leading to a pathetic attempt at a sequel, Dragon Ball GT." That is my big rant about Goku. Now, on the other hand, Vegeta and Piccolo are great characters, complex and fun to watch. Goku had his epic moments, but Vegeta was the most nostalgic and best character in my opinion of DBZ.

Also, I should probably explain my top five favorite anime characters and why I chose them:
1. Lelouch- Badass, complex, fun to watch, and doesn't even have to move to entertain audiences, including myself. Also, he is a slight upgrade to Light, in my opinion, and have the same reasons to love them, for the mist part.
2. Ninth- Badass to the max. Her and Yuno are now my two favorite characters from Future Diary, with my changed opinions. Ninth was the one I was rooting for since her first appearance, even though I knew she wouldn't win. I just love characters that turn good after they're bad, I'm a sucker for them.
3. Itachi- Not even a main character, yet he's more complex and entertaining than any other character in the show. His backstory is my favorite, and his powers are just badass.
4. Light- Same as Lelouch, but more suspenseful to watch.
5. Edward- Just a great protagonist with yet another interesting backstory. I've only seen Brotherhood, and he was my fave from that anime. Ling was a close second though.

Was planning on thinking this out last night before bed and didn't.

Mine:

Female

Suigintou from Rozen Maiden

I was drawn at first to the gothic style of her clothing, but I did enjoy going through the journey of her learning she can't become Alice by herself through watching Hina Ichigo protecting Shinku's real body from Kirakishou and her relationship with Megu (which is about to backfire).

Yin from Darker Than Black

What drew me to finally pick a favourite character between her and Hei was seeing her development from the series version of a doll (Does not do anything unless told to do so, able to use a medium to see things from a distance Yin's medium was water and like contractors in the series emotionless.) to something more dangerous. You see her calling for Hei to come back when he's in Hell's Gate and Izanami slowly turn her into a destructive force.

Male

Mihael Keehl 'Mello' from Death Note (L is second joint with Beyond Birthday)

The underdog, and you can always see those people in school, one who works hard and still doesn't make it to the top and the other who doesn't seem to try so hard and gets there. (The first being Mello the second Near) I enjoyed Mellos' calculated yet reckless nature such as blowing himself up to escape being killed by Soichiro. He made moves that shook up Kira and ultimately made him mess up. (Kira was too busy focusing on Near to count Mello as a serious threat)

Zero Kiryu from Vampire Knight

Becoming the very thing you hate can really hurt. It was interesting to see how he coped even with the temptations in front of him and finding out someone who he loved (given he tried to kiss her, is def. more than sisterly) is the thing he detests. I loved his relationship with his brother, who the only thing he did wrong to was love him and allow him to be born (Twins in Vampire Hunter families in the series cannot co-exist and usually one consumes the other in the womb).

Blue/Green from Pokemon (the / because his name was switched with the female lead in the translation)

Do I need to explain? He was epic. Like how used Porygon to tell the little boy he was helping whilst under Hypnosis how to beat Agatha.

Sho from Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters Genex

It was nice to see him grow up as he progressed through the dorms, even if he was cocky. His manga self more reserved, but  still growing up.

Rua from Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds.

He was so selfless towards his little sister in both the anime and manga, and it's that love that I enjoyed see. Even when he was out of his depth he still fought on.

Couldn't really decided for Zombie Loan (I like both Chika and Shito)

  • 3 weeks later...

Is that what GX stands for? Huh, never knew.

GX stands for Generation NeXt.

The X, just like with ZeXal, is there purely because "X is cool!!!!" reasons. Otherwise it'd be N.

OT:

I either admire/envy these character choices, or am very similar to them, or both. I don't pick these because of "badassery", and none of them are really part of hugely prized pieces, so prepare to read my lameness.

Also, please understand it's kinda late so my thought process will probably be sketchy at best.

Yoh Azakura (Shaman King).

Before talking about the character itself, I have to mention I practically love everything in his surroundings. The Autumn-y atmosphere, the folklore of ghosts and spiritualism that surrounds the whole world, the places he goes to (yes even the Graveyards), all the 90's looks everywhere, the art-style of the characters and spirits, and a very long etc. I know the anime version of this kinda ended too soon and with a very crappy ending, and the North American opening is kinda bad compared to the original ones, and some comedic moments were kinda sloppy in it, so I can see how  this didn't mean too much as a series for lots anime fans. Though to me, anything Shaman King-related always gets me nostalgic and happy. The manga is up there in my list since forever.

So the character is very lazy, but I like how he tries to look at the bright side of things and can brush off most things that would annoy other people. The ability to relax that well is pretty valuable. The character itself is not "bad" but it gets a lot of pluses from the setting it's in, to be honest.

Shinagawa Daichi (Yanki-Kun to Megane-Chan)

He's a very stereotypical high school delinquent shonen main character, but you know what? I don't care, I like that kind of character. The character is actually pretty definite and complex, and the whole world that the manga builds up expands so much around all the different facets he has. For this one, I also basically like all characters, but since I have to pick one, might as well be the one that links everything up.

Akaza Akari (Yuru Yuri)
Sorry Akarin, you don't actually have a lot of qualities to speak of, I just identify a lot.....

Sometimes I'll just be in the background, but if I'm missing, everyone seems to tell me something was missing. It's hard to explain... anyone curious watch this anime... A few episodes should be enough to see how she is.

Vegeta (DBZ)

He's an asshole until Freezer forces him to change sides, but afterwards he is great. In fact, that evil background makes him more hilarious to see. He is also surprisingly the most responsible family member in the entire DBZ universe. For one, he actually shows care for them and is willing to make sacrifices. When he was about to (permanently) fuse with Goku, he was talking about how his pride would have him die gladly before joining forces with Goku. He only accepted when Goku told him Bulma had been killed, then he went on with the plan regardless of the permanency drawback Goku was throwing in at the last moment. Same in the movie, he threw his pride out the window to protect everyone, and got enough strength to hit Bills out of that reason.

This is just some of what makes Vegeta fun to watch for me. Many think DBZ is only brainless fights with upgrades, but I gotta say, I went there for the fights, but stayed because of how much I like looking at some of these characters do stuff outside the battle.

I have a predicament here.. from "Sgt Frog" AKA "Keroro Gunso", I love seeing the frogs's misadventures and it's one of my favorite mangas out there (one of the first ones I ever saw as well), but if I had to pick a character, pretty much all of them are "I don't like that in my top at all" kind of characters.... like... any of the frogs are "Fuck no!" characters... it's complicated.

What does what mean?
If you refer to my image, it's just showing another of my favorite characters. Although it's technically not a single character as much as it is a whole species.

Oh, the Prinnies. Good choice. Now for short summaries:

10: Rangiku Matsumoto: First Lieutenant of Squad 10 and contrast to Toshiro Hitsugaya. She's got big boobies, wavy hair and a killer figure. She often teases Nanao but sometimes she knows when to be comical and when to be serious. Case in point, when she confronted her Zanpaktou spirit about caring for an eventual Sword Beast. She's kinda like a mom figure but she might resort to her physique to charm men into submission. Voiced by Megan Hollingshead.

Her reaction to her hentai stuff: "I don't mind being nude, but that stuff is crossing the line!"

9: Mikoto Urabe: A strange girl who is actually very cute  and she has a great body, not as great as Rangiku's. She has a very strange way of showing affection to her boyfriend Tsubaki. She even goes as far as standing in front of him naked to show how much she likes him, twice. She gives him some drool to drink every day. Aside from her eccentric nature she's good at sports. Voiced by Genevieve Simmons

Her reaction to her hentai stuff: She will use her panty scissors to tear each pic to confetti.

8: Rebecca "Becky" Miyamoto: Ah Becky. She's a cute 11-year old girl who is half Japanese, half American who graduated from MIT. She acts like a little kid but she is very intelligent. When she's teased she'll hide behind the curtain. Voiced by Hilary Haag.

Her reaction to her hentai stuff: The police would arrest the artists.

7: Ryubii Gentoku: A Quiet bookworm who is the reincarnation of Liu Bei (Ryubii Gentoku of old). She houses the yellow lightning dragon of the three kingdoms. She is the head of the Seito academy and Kanu serves as her bodyguard.Smart and Kind-hearted. Voiced by Veronica Taylor.

Her reaction to her hentai stuff: She would cry and Kanu would kill the artists.

6: Carly Carmine: The ultimate giga-dork. A dork with a good body, though she would have terrible luck she is a kind-hearted person and will not publish a story if it hurts someone. Then there's her dark signer self: Cruel and merciless, she weilds the mark of the hummingbird and the Earthbound Immortal Assla Piscu, kinda like a Miss Halloween with the black and orange motif. Also voiced by Veronica Taylor.

Her reaction to her hentai stuff: her good side will just try to alter the pics to make them appropriate for all viewers. Her dark signer self would use the artists as energy for her earthbound immortal.

5: Roxie: The Gym leader of Virbank Gym who faced Ash after he heard the Opelucid Gym was closed. A hard rocker who is the master of poison-types and even knows how to make the Poisoned Venoshock strategy work. She's a great sport and gives Ash a run for his money, despite having double the amount of pokemon she has. Voiced by Alyson Rosenfeld.

Her reaction to her hentai stuff: She'll play ear-bleeding music from her guitar right in the artists ears.

4: Princess Kahm: Ever hear of Outlanders? If you don't I can't blame you. Allow me: Kahm is an intergalactic warrior princess who fell for an out of his luck earth reporter and defies her father's wish to marry the man he picked. She learned how to use a sword from her friend Battia. A good body plus the middle east would hate her outfit. I prefer it when se was voiced by Liza Jacqueline, but that's me.

Her reaction to her hentai stuff: Killing Spree plus she says: "That stuff is private".

3: Tiff: the brainiac of Dreamland who talks more than the actual protagonist (Kirby) Smart yet takes her big sister attitude way seriously. Despite this she cares very much for her friends. She beat up three monsters who were causing trouble in her class but was not proud of it. She also manages to assess a situation and come up with a plan for it. Voiced by Kerry Williams.

Her reaction to her hentai stuff: Anybody remember the end of the Kirby episode Tooned out. That.

2: Chizuru Aizawa: The oldest of the Aizawa series who keeps her eyes closed most of the time. She's usually calm but when something gets her mad she will use martial artes moves and speed that may make even Super Saiyan God Goku look like a slug. Not a girl to be messed with, but as long as she is happy we need not fear her wrath. Voiced by Shelby Lindley.

Her reaction to her hentai stuff:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vb5VxA6m5Y&list=FLbRU4HNBu4pptj3a9xmPKOQ&index=178

Enough said.

1: Lina Inverse: What can be said about Lina that hasn't been said? She is the ultimate black magic user and an expert in all things magic. She's also greedy and gluttenous yet she never gains an ounce. She has saved the world on more than one occasion and has fun while doing it. Voiced by my most favorite VA, Lisa Ortiz.

Her reaction to her hentai stuff: Lina would use an ultra powerful Dragon Slave to kill the artists:

Just run.
