And there are 2 other series besides this one. You're going to have to be more specific than "this book"

jackelgull
I like this series as a whole, perhaps more than I should, and think it needs more love. It is a children's series that is surprisingly complex. I don't mean it is Shakespearean, or even Lord of The Rings complex, but it is still heads and shoulders above what other books for seven years old have to offer. The main character is likable. He's intelligent and good hearted, but there isn't that in your face quality to his goodness that makes it annoying. His companions are characters in their own right. Even with all that though,it is the puzzles and challenges throughout the books for each gem that make it interesting to me. Some of them seem obvious now that I'm seventeen, but there are some shockingly good twists and riddles to solve.
Ryusei the Morning Star
Wasn't fond of how it ended. And I certainly felt pity for some of the "bosses"
Halubaris Maphotika
I prefer the Dragons of Deltora books more. The darker storyline and political narratives tug at me.
