Timeline15
Ah, feels good to see Reiji in action again. Shame that Hokuto had to be the victim in this one, as now the whole LDS trio are eliminated. Only Masumi got a proper duel, Yaiba and Hokuto were written out by plot devices -_-. (and you just know Michio wouldn't have stood a chance against Hokuto). Still, nice to see panther warrior again, and have I mentioned how cool it is that Academia duel disks are swords? So, looks like an exposition heavy episode next time, so might have to wait for the subs on that one, but it promises a lot of revelations. This show is seriously getting good. ~Faytl~
Fun fact, today is Joey Wheeler's birthday (which I heard in the comments thread for Panther Predator), hence why Panther Warrior appeared in the episode. Seto Kaiba's birthday is also on a Sunday. Keep your eyes peeled for October 25.
So Hokuto is a card now... Shame. I guess that means we'll be getting less and less of the trio from now on. We didn't even get a reaction from the other two about him missing his duel (or one from Masumi about Yuzu winning hers, with the card she GAVE her, no less). But let's be honest, unless Michio could get some Royal Cookmates out before Hokuto summoned Pleiades (which is doubtful since he needs Food Cemetery for that and it's a Trap that requires his monsters be destroyed), he would have been CRUSHED. Love the Academia duel disks. They very nicely avoid the line of looking ridiculous. Great to see Panther Warrior, and a strategy that I actually like out of Barret, viability be damned. Reiji was KICK. ASS. Loved seeing new triple Ds, and it was interesting to actually see what happens Solid Vision-wise when his Covenants DO hurt him. A very fitting animation. Apparently that Trap Barrett used towards the end there damages BOTH players and Reiji's new Fusion prevents damage to BOTH players... kay. Makes the trap a lot less insane, doesn't really matter in the case of D'Arc (which sounded bizarrely awesome whenever Reiji said it's name). Yuzu wins, whatevs, it's not KICKASS REIJI.
This might now my second-favorite episode of the series, honestly, right behind the wrap-up between Shun and Sora.
Flash Flyer - Sakura
Reiji duels again + wins. I suppose the new Extra Deck he got this episode gave me enough reason to try DDs out on YGOPro or something. Actually, only D'Arc (Tell could be better) If Naname was trying to be attractive as hell, it didn't work (well, on me anyway). Although she is pretty, I found here to be less appealing than many other anime females that I know about (and probably a good thing, since she's basically one-shot at this point). If I wanted to see an idol girl, I'd rather watch Miku over Naname anyway. That's just me though. Hokuto would've fought that kid that topdecked Wonder Recipe in Yuya's first duel, had Serena not intervened off-screen. TBH, I would've loved to see Hokuto smash his face in. Also confirms one of my earlier thoughts about him being here; no word on that quiz kid (hopefully he isn't here) Naname runs random Fairies (which could work in an earlier format). OK, she would get creamed in this era (but apparently was able to nick Yuzu down to the wire), so I don't know. Panther Warrior comes back; well, that was a surprise. Yuya's still trying to figure out what happened; was expecting some revelation this episode, but oh well. Reiji's dad is The Professor; I didn't see that coming.
Overall, nice episode. Hallohallo
So you realised how redundant you were being by editing your previous post? Shame that when I quoted you I have a record of your redundancy. I actually wanted to quote your post, but when I clicked your "raw" link, the quoting slipped my mind and I copy/pasted link again instead. Sorry. I didn't want to make you mad or anything. Anyways, nothing actually new in sub version for me. Probably because I've read half of stuff on wiki already while the episode was raw.

~British Soul~
- Reiji refused Shun to see Yuya, and reminded him of the purpose of the tournament. - Serena's target Yu won his match using Hierophant of Prophecy. - When Serena said she was going to Standard, Barrett was the first guard who didn't stop her. - The preview for the next episode suggests that Reiji and Serena has some history. Atypical-Abbie
Wow, this episode sure was a step-up from the last one, this duel was awesome. Beastborg could be a pretty interesting concept if it came to the real game. Phantom Beast and Mecha Phantom Beast anyone?

Blake
I don't know why you all thought 39 was so bad.I mean, some of the execution was off, but the Dark Rebellion scene was very well done, and most of the episode was.It was Yuto stepping in to protect Yuya, so to speak. The scene with Dark Rebellion was epic beyond belief. It was even better than what I was expecting.
Βyakuya
Only thing I didn't like about it was Kachidoki and the Ryonzanpaku demeanor. Yuya despite his harsh demeanor was pretty badass when he was possessed. I never expected this would happen with that trance as well as the badass use of DRxD...so I still enjoyed it nevertheless. Premier Alexander Romanov
The only problem I had with the episode was the whole Ryozanpaku thing. Other than that, yeah, the end bit was awesome.
evilfusion
The thing I liked with 39 was that Yuya's possession or whatever involved him speaking so seriously and unemotionally. It worked so well because it's out of Yuya's normal character. That's why it unnerved everyone so badly. It was CREEPY, but yet incredibly awesome. But yeah, the Duel School thing is...unlikable. Understandable, but it's not to our tastes, I suppose.
Flash Flyer - Sakura
OK, so Barrett's basically there as Serena's bodyguard for most intents/purposes. Probably don't need to care about him after this point. I'm more interested in seeing Serena duel in 41, because she plays a more pivotal role. As I noted earlier with Mikiyo, while she is cute + has fans; to be honest, she's just a filler character. Miku outclasses her in being a diva + fandom (except in dueling, but you get the point). Yuzu won, though. Other than that, guess that the rest of my RAW thoughts are retained here.
ems97
This episode Yuuya feels down after beating his last opponent and now Yuzu will try her hardest to cheer him up. Her opponent is really an attention grabber and every guys is into it >_>. Anyway, that wasn't what this episode is mainly about. Reiji saved a guy who is about to sealed up into a card and dueled Barrett (Well Serena wanted to due him in the first place, but whatever). In my opinion, its good to see a classic card like Panther Warrior (one of Joey's card) be in the Pendulum Generation and hope to see more classics like Panther Warrior. Now what really got hyped is Reiji's clutch, and Barrett was so surprised he can Xyz after Pendulum and use the fusion materials from the graveyard. All in all it's obvious that Reiji's clutch is better than Yuzu's and the episode was pretty great. Can't wait to see what will happen to Serena and the others. Fusion X. Denver
So is Barrett Shuzo's Fusion counterpart? Interesting if so, since it doesn't seem he's Serena's dad in that dimension.

evilfusion
Every damn episode they add a new character/plot. Makes me wonder how many things they ll leave forgotten in the end. This is not a bad thing, though. If anything, it makes more connections between the already existing characters/plots. But what I realized after seeing the sub...was Serena's name ever said by the other characters before the end of the episode, when Reiji called her by name? If not, how does he know her already? I also noticed, thanks to the subs, that the character Reiji protected that was being targeted was the winner of the last tournament. Isao was the runner-up last year. That character used Xyz. It makes Isao's ignorance almost comical, because he lost to an Xyz Duelist previously.

The fact that they bothered to bring up his backstory and giving him some characterization - and with some sympathetic elements at that - makes more likely for him to return in the future. Especially since he seems to care a lot about Serena - and guardian-type characters tend to show up a lot whenever their loved ones do.
