Got around to watching the episode. Will obvs rewatch when the subs are out though.
This episode has retro written all over it.

I'll admit that I laughed when Yuzu failed to perform fusion as her fusion monster was lodged in her main deck, reminded me of when characters in the original series/Duelist Kingdom had fusions in their main deck, like Flame Swordsman, Giltia the D Knight, Barox, etc.

Then we have the Dark Duelist in a post apocalyptic future-like scene facing off against a guy on a Duel Runner who we can assume uses Synchros

To top it off, we have the varios LDS employees being sealed in trading cards by Shun who we know has a 3-material Rank 4 Xyz, just like Pegasus did in Duelist Kingdom

...and ofc this retro-ness floods into the next episode as well with a guy using a Quiz.dek, like we didn't have one of those in GX or anything?
So you're saying, the Dark Duelist and Jin come from a dystopic Heartland? Let's see:

-Soul Prison cards from Duel Monsters

-D-Wheels from 5Ds

-Abandoned City of Heartland from Zexal

So could there be an intermingling/distortion between worlds? Given what happened with the LDS members having their souls taken and the Dark Duelist and Jin antagonizing them, it is likely LDS, or something resembling LDS was trying to take over summoning methods in each spin-off series universe, and as a result some elements were taken. Heartland does confuse me in the lines of the timeline cause the Numeron Code did restore everything back to normal, but if this is all after the end of Zexal, then Yuma is either deceased or non-existent in this line.

I dunno, alwasy gotta reply on those subs.

Reiji was also shocked tha Yuya declined the free pass into the tournament, and the bloke he was talking to had detected strong fusion readings different from those that would be used by students, interesting.
I wonder who this Ruri person that the Dark Duelist was mentioning is.
The other bit of dialogue from LDS was that the Mayor-to-be is determined in catching notCulprit Yuya, even when Reiji said that Yuya is no criminal but didn't tell him that Yuya was at YSDS dueling when the 2nd incident happened, probs because he didn't need to at the time.

Also, the preview for the next episode had a trivia question; "What was Sherlock Holmes favourite instrument?" I didn't know the answer initially so I googled it and took a trivia quiz and I got that question right even though I guessed. (The answer being Violin)
So Synchro Dragon belongs to some bad guy in the alternate world, which is funny because of what Z-ONE and Aporia said. Also people being sealed in cards, throwback to the original series.

I hope they don't make Melodius actually use Polymerization.
If Melodious uses Polymerization, then that would totally throw off everything what the Melodious archetype is doing: Spamming lockdown wall monsters making room as tribute fodder to summon more lockdown wall. So what are you supposed to achieve by getting rid of it as well as making the hand -> field spam worthless with Polymerization can fuse from the hand as well? An only ideal thing is either achieving the effects of the fused Melodious or totally spamming more Melodious. But this Maestra Yuzu has...better be worth it soon when her time comes.

Synchro summoning would have been a better forte, but for plot reasons had to be this way.

I don't think she could have used Synchro monsters since there isn't really anyone to teach her how the mechanic works aside from Yaiba but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't teach her a thing.
Didn't really learn anything I didn't pick up myself, except Detective Strong Chin's name is Tio. My theory that Yuya and Yuto can't be at the same place at the same time proves correct, but is he warping at random or warping at a specific location for a reason? Not only is Yuzu's bracelet of questionable origin, but Yuzu herself as well. Her dad didn't explain things too well... And there's Yuya's Pendent as well. I feel that they're obvious eeerr... (Insert the "Space-Time" variation for Extraterrestrial) objects.

Is it just because he's mysterious and ominous or does Yuzu has a thing for Yuto? Deez hoes ain't loyal...
There could have been another mentor that appealed to Yuzu instead of Sora, but as I said, the plot purpose was that Gem Knights were most symbolic to reflecting Yuzu's troubles and naturally Yuzu wanted to adorn the power of whom she lost from, so Sora would be the first to be consulted to. Still makes no sense but that's how it is.

難問!?アタックデュエルクイズ!! Nanmon!? Atakku Dyueru Kuizu!! (“A Difficult Problem!? Attack Duel Quiz!!”)
August 24th, 2014

Yuya continues on his endeavors to earn the qualifications to enter the Junior Youth Championship. Against the duelist whose forte is solving quizzes and in the Action Field where he have to face a series of difficult problems, can Yuya win the duel?

Outline
The “Quiz Duel” between Kyuuandou Eita and Sakaki Yuya enters a special Extra Stage. In this stage, both duelists sit on trucks, and ride around the Action Field filled with quizzes everywhere. In a duel where Life Points are increased or decreased according to the correct answers given, it does not seem good for our hero Yuya…
Is it virtually impossible for Yuya to make a comeback with his Entertainment Duel? While looking for anything to help him make a comeback, Yuya answers Eita’s quiz with an unexpected answer.

Wow, I hate Eita already. Like, within SECONDS.
Good to see Action Traps return. Though if I were Yuya I would have just cut my losses and tried to not screw myself over even harder after the second failure.

Also, can we see that Shogi field again? 0_0

Eita indeed has gotten much more annoying and arrogant. Especially since its at his turf, he can answer every quiz question correctly while looking down at Yuya's stupidity. But his demeanor of a face and voice doesn't sound like a 10-12 year old-ish prodigy at all, If I had to sum up the setting of the duel school setting:

Also, it was very good to see Action Traps working in a larger scale. Eita's Sphinx also did link to the one in Oedipus; That's mildly interesting. But Yuya, why even bother trying to answer questions that you know are obviously going to get wrong? You got a tiny bit of LP left you wouldn't want to waste... Frankly I'm just on the kids side of embarassment, but once again Yuya's dead hand would only lead to the same exact formula for his Entertainment duel again.

So this isn't on topic with episode 19, but is anyone else curious who would use Qliphorts if and when they are introduced in the anime?

So far the only other Pendulum user is Reiji and I doubt he would just randomly change his entire deck to Qliphorts.

There was Sawatari who said he wanted to get his hands on Pendulum monsters but I'm not sure if the archetype is really his style.

So, how did Yuzu get that Fusion monster card? I was convinced that LDS monopolized the distribution of all Extra Deck cards, but Episode 18 seems to imply anyone can get their hands on them and simply don't know how to use them - which would be completely dumb. Unless Sora gave it to her - if that's the case, it'd make me more anxious to find out more about him.

Also, the Arc-V writers REALLY want us to hate that Kyuando Eita-kid. Seriously, they waste no time to show us how much of a prick he is. No subtlety at all.

I'm looking forward to Episode 22. That Mieru Houchu-kid looks cute and intriguing. A picture of her, BTW:

Flip + Ritual sound like an interesting combination. Rituals coming back in Arc-V are great in general.

Yeah, Michio and this little twerp are why I'm going to find these four duels cringe-worthy. Considering those two acted all high and mighty despite the fact that they're dueling on their home turf where they know ALL the nuances, but it's grating in Michio's case as he would have been f**ked had he not topdecked Wonder Recipe.

I'm probably going to find all these Duels cringeworthy because of how the characters are probably going to be more or less one-shots with a gimmicky Deck and personality quirk. Kind of like the first Duels of the WDC in Zexal (kill me, those Duels were awful).

Haven't even watched the new episode yet. I'm in no rush.

I am at a loss as to how Yuzu got a Fusion monster. It's...really weird. We've seen characters before pull new Fusion/Synchros/whatever out of nowhere before, but in this case, Yuzu explicitly didn't know how to use Fusion cards before Sora taught her and gave her a Poly, so having one that fits with her Decktype is tugging suspension of disbelief. At least other characters could be semi-justified that they always had them, just never used them, or possibly received them in packs or other means and it supports their pre-existing Fusion-centric Deck (E-HEROs).

I doubt Qliphorts will appear in the anime. Not every archetype does, even if the theme would be a good one to have.

Just got round to watching the episode, and I agree with everyone else, I also hate Eita from the moment he appeared, and I found the duel cringeworthy so far, and I'm going to enjoy it when he loses.

I agree, I think they won't appear in teh anime as well.

Qliphoths would be something I would never imagine being used in Arc-V. To put it straightforward, it would definitely be OP for anime standards. You can have Michio pop every Pendulum Summoned monster Yuya can have, but Qliphoths can bounce AND pop a monster in a Pendulum Zone, something that Yuya could possibly not recover on. Also considering the fact a mere double damage plot device wouldn't be that effective on Disk or Shell or any other Qliphoth, but if Killer can only be stopped by battle, then Yuya would have a lot of barriers to overcome that wouldn't be that great to see.

As for the next girl Yuya challenges, I really wanted her to use Gishki; Ariel, Reliever, and Abyss at least have this capability. If she doesn't at least use Gishki, I would like to see at least an IRL Ritual card being used like Northwemko or Garlandolf.

Given her theme (using Flip effects too), I don't think she'll use Gishki and it's likely she'll be using an original Ritual monster.
