They go out of their way to promote Entermate Discover Hippo as the series mascot, but in reality Yuya tends to Summon Whip Viper more frequently than it. :/

You noticed that too? He hasn't even summoned Hippo since his duel with Sora, ten episodes ago, and he's summoned Whip Viper on his first turn for the last 3 duels.

EDIT: Also, 1000 replies, yaaaaay!

To be fair, Whip Viper is an awesome monster. I love all of it's expressions... it looks strangely guilty of something.

Even if it didn't appear more often, it'd be more iconic because of it. Not to mention the creators should have predicted it,

I mean, Whip Viper has decent stats and a self-sufficient aggressive effect, unlike the Hippo which is just meant to function as fodder.

Since Yuya no longer has the need to Tribute Summon his Ace, Hippo just became meaningless.

Did anyone see how Whip Viper ate that egg? I loled at how accurate it was.

Well Whip Viper does serve more useful purpose aside from stats. From recent Action Duel stages like the Athletic Circus, Magical Broadway, and the Kitchen, running space for something like Hippo is reduced and favors more acrobatic use to get to higher ground, which is what Viper can do. And Hippo's effect is pretty much useless now that Yuya can Pendulum Summon Odd-Eyes with ease. Hippo definitely is on some horrid ground compared to his Entermate counterparts, but it has got to show some actual usefulness aside from Action Duel capability.
I found something annoying. Last time I saw the effect of Royal Cookmates, they returned to hand and then destroyed those monsters. Meaning they shouldn't be back in the Extra Deck. Got hyped up for nothing here....

The COOKMATES return to hand, not the monsters they destroy.
The duel didn't look so bad; Yuya fought an almost challenging one but at least he kinda made it through well....KINDA. Especially at that moment where he dead drawn the trap and had to find an Action Card.

Also, did it occur to anyone that there would be a card that would I dunno, at least bounce or negate a majority of the Cookmate's effects? Like a Quick Play that negates the effects of every monster per Entermate (Holy s**t that's a great card idea actually)? At the very least, Michio would have some power backup to protect his Cookmates, but Yuya could overkill Michio because:

Partnaga + Cheermole +  Odd-Eyes = 2500 + 1200 +1000 = 4700. Combined with its double damage that's a whopping 8800 damage!

But nope, how did Yuya win? Ultra Lucksack with this ONE coincidental monster that can immediately kill Michio. I mean, I understand if Yuya would try to use some Entermates to overwhelm Michio at the end with his Cookmates, but at least, use better filler Entermates like Kaleido Scorpion and Sword Fish, and not make the Cookamtes Level 6-8 levels actually alluring to Odd-Eyes. But nope, stupid lucksack that only permits only 1 summon out of the 5 that were already popped. Seriously WTF Yuya...But then again Konami likes to place the belief of topdecking occasionally.

But overall Yuya at least won against an almost anti-Pendulum according to the anime world of YGO. I do wish Cookmates were a bit stronger not in terms of their actual ATK power but more influential in how "food" and flavor text appeals to stuff like Food Cemetery and the Royal Cookmate's battling.
They had to kinda' sorta' botch the duel a bit. I mean, come on. Cookmates are designed to block off the Opponent's monsters, while typically keeping themselves on the field. So it's not like they had any other choice in the matter.

Plus, this was, what, the first time Yuya ONLY Summoned monsters from his Extra Deck? So more or less they just wanted to showcase Pendulum Summons again.
So am I the only one who thought the guys deck was actually kinda good by the standards of anime cards? Not just being a situational anti Pendulum deck, but a deck that could understandably be seen as competitive in universe. Yes, it's reliant on it's two Spell cards buuuut, the actual stragety was pretty sound. Even the Spell and Trap support he used wasn't awful.

Yuya winning the duel by 'sacking' Hammer Mammoth is fine because a) It's wasn't for exact damage b) it's actually a card worth space and one he can summon c) it makes things a bit more realistic - He couldn't have 30 wins each with dramatic ends. This series is somewhat attempting to be realistic anyhow.

Hell even not winning through just Odd-Eyes beatdown is nice.

So, honoring the fact that I decided to come back (for real this time), I've delved into watching this and I gotta say one thing.

Holy f*** did I miss yu-gi-oh withouth knowing it :P and man does the Pendulum Summon appear broken as hell (Only up to ep 5 so far, so I have no idea if they give rules to it)

Still, feels good to say I'm hooked 100% already and eager to see where things develop :) (No spoilers!)

I know this might sound stupid or obvious, but I had a thought just now. In which maybe there is a dark side of Reiji that we don't know about. As we know, characters in the show often use decks that support their personality. Reijis cards are all about taking loans from Demons and paying it back with a hearty amount of damage/bypassing the damage by finding a loop hole.

Maybe the Dark Duelist is someone who Reiji knows, in which he is out to get Reiji because he is how yo can say... "collecting his debt". Maybe Reiji has taken too much of a loan from an outside power and cant afford to pay it back or even find a loop hole around it.

For him to be a "Master of Summons" and with his high record of being a duelist, I believe this could the reason. Cheating the system would sound like someone who seems to be a CEO...

"The Universe of Knowledge "Kyuandou Eita""

In order to qualify for the Junior Youth Championship, Yuya has to win continuously in official duels. Nico Smiley has prepared for him a second duelist - a duelist in the Cram School named Eita Kyuandou who has the nickname of "King of Quizzes". Eita is an expert in the Action Field known as the Quiz Field. Dueling in this Field, a series of difficult and bizarre quiz questions are asked to the duelists. Yuya faces a problem when he cannot answer these questions correctly, landing him in a tough battle against Eita.

my first thought after reading: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Yu-Gi-Oh!_GX_-_Episode_081

EDIT:

Ep. 20: A Difficult Problem!? Attack Duel Quiz!
24th August
The "Quiz Duel" between Eita and Yuya enters an extra stage. Both of them sit on separate trucks and scurry around the Quiz Field looking for Action Cards. In this stage, where answering a question wrongly will incur a punishment, Yuya feels exhausted as he continuously answers wrongly. However...

Ep. 21: At the Front of Pendulums
31st August
Yuya needs two more victories to qualify for Junior Youth Championship, but is frustrated as he still cannot see what Reiji means by the "evolution of Pendulum Summoning". On the other hand, Masumi, who is searching for the culprit behind the LDS attacks, challenges the tag-teamed Yuzu and Sora to a duel, betting on the fame of LDS. But...

Ep. 22: The Girl who Divinates - Houchuu Mieru
7th September
Yuya challenges the divination girl Houchuu Mieru to a duel, as his 3rd one to earn the qualifications for Junior Youth. Even at the beginning, Yuya is already played around with by Mieru who uses Flip Summon monsters. Mieru even correctly predicts that Yuya "cannot see what is in front of him" and launches a brutal assault with her pride-and-joy Ritual Monsters, causing Yuya to be unable to focus. Also, Mieru makes an inauspicious divination for Yuya...

sooo, We will have Masumi vs Yuzu and Sora as first Tag Duel in Arc-V, and.. Ritual Monsters.

So it's going to be yet another rehash of a GX Episode... I am starting to see a pattern here.

Yeah. She's forgiven for that.  We all have to start somewhere.

I don't know why, but I have a feeling Yuya's last opponent will be someone important, and not a one time character. Only question is, who? There's a large amount pf people it could be. On a side note, I'm willing to bet Yuzu could be in the upcoming tournament.

She is. She qualified for the Junior Youth Championship already. That's why she wouldn't Duel against Yuya when he was first looking for opponents.

Ah. I see. I admit, I have yet to watch one episode because I procrastinate. And I go back to college in 17 days, and I have a ton of other anime on the list.

Damn it. Nico Smiley is growing on me lol.
Minus the obvious Arc-V is nearing the "Apocalyptic Future" from 5D's Future Scenario. I'm guessing Shun uses Winged Beasts? Also Melodious Fusions, Yay. Sawatari's Dad is abit too much for me... Mayor or not, he's annoying as heck...

Any thoughts on our mysterious character with the D-Wheel?
