Well, I forgot to comment on 132 due to being busy, so I will say something about it here in addition to this weeks.

[spoiler=132 stuff]

  • Well, Yusho actually did something and guessed Super Polymerization. Granted, the chances of doing that in the real game is very slim; at least with the combo he pulled, but it worked.
  • Yuri and Yugo became one.
  • Mad Yuri face.

[spoiler=133]

  • Yup, Yuri topdecks Transcendental Fusion and summons Starve Venom otherwise. (Right, and that thing is busted as hell in its anime form)
  • RIP Yusho; only one actual duel on-screen and he got beaten hard.
  • Rage Yuya came back; this will be good.
  • At this point, Zarc will be revived but it's a matter of who's going to be absorbing who. World's probably screwed either way.

In regards to the last point in your comment of 133, That's what I said.

[spoiler It won't matter]

Whether Yuri beats Yuya or the other way around, Zarc will be revived. Yuya could lose to Yuri and be absorbed by him, or Yuya could win but Yuri stabs him with his duel disc blade, grabs his throat and then absorbs him. Then Yuri, in his delusion of victory changes, his hands becoming claws, and he'd be all "What's happening to me?" then laughter comes out of nowhere and when Yuri asks who's laughing the voice says "I am he whose rebirth you desired." and then he transforms, with all 4 Yuyas falling into a white hole inside Yuri, merging into one, and from the smoke, Zarc appears.

Are we not gonna get any more previews?

Probably a holiday in Japan, or something else took its timeslot for the week (i.e. sporting event [was the case for another episode a few months ago], another show had a special that leaked). Don't quote me on this though, as I'm not familiar with the former.

As for Astro, we probably will get more previews sometime this week beyond the start of Yuri vs Yuya. Likely will be the result of said match, something to do with Zarc's revival (and probably Ray) as a result. We don't know how long Yuri vs Yuya will be though; assuming it will be a 2-3 part episode.

There's no Arc-V this week because of judo if I remember correctly.

At least it wasn't due to table tennis this time :Kappa:  .

[spoiler=Reaction to previews]

Looks like I'm gonna have to find time on Christmas day to watch the Lancers vs Zarc.

As for the following episode, Zarc vs Kaito/Shun will certainly be interesting.

Well, said table tennis overstepped its timeslot (and they couldn't just reschedule the show for another time apparently).

[spoiler=Previews]

135: It seems Yuri's screwing Yuya over right now (but that should be expected). Oh right, and the dimensions fusing.

Even with anger mode, Yuya is being screwed.

136: Getting interesting; Zarc revives but who won and absorbed the other half is up for interpretation. Probably assuming Yuri came out on top, given the previous.

137: So Kaito wasn't carded after losing to Greedy Venom; didn't think he was. I suspect this will be a losing battle for him and Shun, but they can at least go out in style. Oh right, and we actually see the Supreme King Dragon's powers.

[spoiler=Previews]

135 - Right off the bat, the constant mention of how close the Professor is getting/has gotten to completing Arc-V intrigues me. They played the Professor up as the villain for most of the series, and when we finally meet him, we find that his motives is actually not that bad, even if the means of achieving it is morally questionable. The fact that after his Duel with Reiji and Yuya, he pretty much just retreated and there's very little than can be done to outright stop him from completing the plan is interesting. Reiji still opposes the objective, but he's gotten nowhere.

Yuri seems to have the upper hand? Wow. Didn't see that coming /sarcasm.

Seriously, if there's anything that can be learned from Yugioh series, it's that the "antagonist" side of the Duel will always start off winning. And if the antagonist side starts off losing, they're going to win. (Yuri vs Yusho. Who was said to be winning? Who actually won?)

136 - While they don't outright state the winner, to me, it's very obvious that Yuya won. See the above. Yuri was winning, but Yuya keeps fighting? Yuya won. The "twist" is that Yuya defeating Yuri still awakens Zarc. Also, the way they phrase that Zarc is awakened in front of those who "believe Yuya's Duel can bring peace to the world" further cements (in my opinion) that Yuya won. Yugioh is also big on how people supporting and trusting in the protagonist often enables them to win. This also would make the "twist" more ironic in-universe (the audience can see a mile away that Yuya vs Yuri means Zarc awakens regardless of the winner). Despite their trust in Yuya, Zarc awakens regardless.

And then the rest of 136's preview FURTHER cements this. The feelings of the others helped Zarc return? Uh...yeah. That doesn't make any sense if Yuri wins. Yuya has also been implied to be the "main" vessel of Zarc, because his berserk mode has completely different eyes, and when the dimensions split, Akaba Leo appeared in Standard. Yuzu's bracelet is the only one with explicit teleportation powers. She's the standard counterpart. So Zarc's main vessel would logically also be in Standard (Yuya). Plus the whole thing about Yusho saying he was chosen by Zarc to raise Zarc's avatar as his son only makes sense if Yuya is the main component of Zarc.

Also, seriously, do you think Yuri is going to STAY undefeated? They've been half-assing all his recent Duels because they desperately needed to hype up how strong he was in a short period of time, so that Yuya beating him is seen as an accomplishment. Yuri's beaten 5 students at once, Asuka, Sora, Yugo (and Kaito/Edo, but I don't really count them, because they almost literally ignored him and focused on Yugo, even though the actual kill shot was his), and Yusho. Having him beat the main protagonist would be alarming, but would also completely nullify everything about Yuya's growth up to this point.

137 - Okay, this part surprised me. I had a feeling that Sora would return for part of the Duel against Zarc, because otherwise they pretty much just discarded his character like trash. I'm still mad they screwed him against a REAL Duel against Yuri (like I wouldn't have minded if Sora lost to Yuri's Predator Plants, but the Antique Gear Deck was just an insult), and they also went out of their way to spare Sora from being carded, and it wasn't just to bear witness to Yugo vs Yuri. Likewise, I noted Edo and Kaito didn't get carded when Yuri beat them, but they stayed off-screen for almost the whole duration of the Duel.

And when Yuri beat Yugo, he absorbed him, and then focused all his attention on fusing with Yuya. I legitimately could tell that Sora, Edo, and Kaito were completely forgotten in Yuri's mind at that moment, and considering his entrance in the main room involved blowing up part of the wall and knocking Yusho about, but dismissing him as someone to actually Duel, Yuri literally didn't care about carding anyone at the moment.

And naturally, Sora and whomever else was involved is going to lose. I'm okay with that, so long as they give us a REAL Duel, even if it's one-sided as hell. They mention that the Lancers' battle with Zarc is just beginning, but how many of the Lancers are fighting in the first Duel against Zarc? The only characters even remotely nearby are Reiji/Reira, Sora, Edo, and Kaito. And Kaito we know is going to fight with Shun.

And then Shun + Kaito will face Zarc? I was likewise wondering whether Shun was actually going to do anything other than spend his time unconscious. Furthermore, it's significant for certain characters to face Zarc. They're characters that changed their mindsets and beliefs after meeting Yuya, even if Yuya only played so much of a role in that change. Shun and Sora are the main ones, Kaito a little bit. I'm expecting Jack to show up at some point.

Also, I've been wondering whether Reira is associated with Ray in some form, outside of just sensing her feelings and such. Is he also a part of Ray in some sense? Reira did say that Ray told him that she's the only one who can stop Zarc. I expect a Ray vs Zarc Duel to actually end in Zarc losing.

[spoiler=Response]

It struck me as weird that the previews don't mention Aster even though we know he's still around after his loss to Yuri.

I also expect Jack to show up as well alongside Gongenzaka. (ofc we can discount Sawatari since his duel disk was wrecked by Raikiri)

[spoiler=Script 134]

Script and translation credit to DMC3444 on NAC

Calm down, Yuri…

Last Time’s Egao Count: 245

Yuto: Stop…
Stay away! Stay away!

Yusho: AAAAHHHHH!

Yuya: Dad…

Yusho: Smile…Yuya. (Egao Count: 245+1=246)

Yuya: AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Narrator: The world is divided into four dimensions.
Across these dimensions, there are four boys, who all share the same face,
And the dragons they possess call out to one another,
As if seeking out each other…

(Opening Sequence)

Yuri: This is great!
It’s all thanks to this card!
That’s a lovely expression you got there.

Yuya: GIVE HIM BACK!

Reiji: No! Don’t let the darkness consume you!

Reira: Brother!

Yuri: This is wonderful!
Your rage, and power…
When you become one with me, they will be mine as well!

Yuya: I won’t forgive you…
You turned Dad into a card…

Reiji: Wait!
You must not approach Yuri!

Yuya: I won’t ever forgive you…

Yuri: You want this card back, right?
Then, you’ll have to fight me!
With a Duel!

Yuya: All right!
Let’s do this!

Duel Disk: Field Magic: Cross Over.

DUEL!

Yuri: Your father put up a good show.
You’ll entertain me, too, right?

Yuri: I’ll start.
From my hand, I summon Predator Plant - Ophrys Scorpio.
When Ophrys Scorpio is summoned,
I can send one Predator Plant from my hand to the Graveyard,
And Special Summon a Level-3 or below Predator Plant from my deck.
I send Predator Plant – Stapelia Worm from my hand to the Graveyard.
I Special Summon Predator Plant - Darling Cobra from my deck!

Yuri: When Darling Cobra is Special Summoned,
I can add a Polymerization Magic Card from my deck to my hand.

Yuri: Let me bring out the monster that took down your father.
I activate the Magic Card, Polymerization!
I fuse the Ophrys Scorpio and the Darling Cobra on my Field!
My two beautiful flowers that tempt insects with an enchanting fragrance!
Become one now,
and give birth to a new nightmare from the hell locked beneath your petals!
Fusion Summon!
Come forth!
The venomous dragon bearing ravenous fangs!
Level-8! Starve Venom Fusion Dragon!

Yuya: Ahh…

Yuri: My Starve Venom is seeking out its companions!
That’s right!
It yearns for your dragons!
I set one card face-down, and end my turn!

Yuya: It’s my turn!

Yusho: Smile, Yuya. (Egao Count: 246+1=247)

Yuri: What’s wrong?
You said that you’re not going to forgive me, didn’t you?

Yuri: Oh? So it’s just for show?
Then, why don’t you just surrender?

Yuri: I mean, it’s not like you can win against me, anyway.
So, why don’t you just give it up? Ahahahaha!

Yuya: AAAAHHHH!

Yusho: When you feel like crying, just laugh it off.
Just laugh loudly with everything you’ve got.

Yuya: Dad…

Yusho: If you let fear take hold of you,
You won’t be able to do anything.
If you want to win,
You must muster up your courage, and step forward!

Yuri: Huh?

Yusho: The more courage you have, the more happiness you’ll get back.

Yuya: I’m not afraid…

Yuya: Using the Scale-1 Stargazer Magician and the Scale-8 Timegazer Magician,
I set the Pendulum Scales!
With this, I can simultaneously summon monsters between Level-2 and 7!
Swing, Pendulum of Souls!
Draw an arc of light across the ether!
Pendulum Summon!
Come forth!
Level-4. Entermate Drago Remora!
And Level-7!
The one who bears heroic and beautiful dual-colored eyes!
Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!

Yuri: Hahaha…
Two monsters right away…
It’s like our hearts are linked together…

Yuya: Ahhh…

Yuri: Here it is! Here it is!

Yuya: AAAAHHHHHH!

Reira: Yuya is…!

Reiji: Is he losing control because the dragons are resonating?

Reiji: Yuya is resisting it…

Reira: But, Brother…
Ray said that…
Zarc’s revival can no longer be stopped.

Reiji: Even so, he’s still desperately trying to stop it…
Yuya is still fighting, for our sake…

Yuri: Why are you trying so hard?
Just yield to your desires!

Yuya: Drago Remora’s effect!
All Dragon-Type monsters on my Field gain 500 ATK!

Yuya: Battle!
Odd-Eyes, attack Starve Venom!
Spiral Strike Burst!

Yuri: No matter how hard you try, it’ll all be in vain!
Trap, activate!
Predator Germination!
When a DARK monster is attacked,
Battle destruction is negated,
And the attacking monster will be destroyed!

Yuya: Drago Remora’s other effect!
Odd-Eyes won’t be destroyed!

Yuya: And when Odd-Eyes battles a Level-5 or above monster,
The battle damage will be doubled!
Reaction Force!

Yuri: That’s all your dragon can do?
Thank you.
Thanks to you, I can easily advance my game.
With the effect of Predator Germination,
I can Special Summon three Predator Plant Tokens!

Yuya: But as long as Dad is watching over me,
I won’t lose!
I attack Predator Plant Token with Drago Remora!

Yuya: I destroyed one of his three summoned Tokens…

Yuto: But there’s still two left…
There’s no doubt that he’s planning to do something with those Tokens on the next turn.

Yuya: Yeah…
But we’ll prepare for that.
I’ll counter it with this card.

Yuto: That’s right!
We’re going to seal Zarc away!

Yuya: I set one card face-down, and end my turn!

Yuri: You sure are desperate.
Let’s see how long you’ll last.

Yuri: It’s my turn!
I release a Predator Plant Token,
In order to Advance Summon the Tuner Monster, Predator Plant – Banksia Ogre!

Yuya: Tuner!?

Yuri: I’ll make you realize how useless your struggle is…
I’m tuning the Level-1 Predator Plant Token with the Level-6 Banksia Ogre!
Spread your beautiful and majestic wings!
Strike down our enemies at light speed!
Synchro Summon!
Come forth!
Level-7! Clear Wing Synchro Dragon!

Yuya: AAAHH!

Reiji: What!?
The three dragons on the Field are…!

Yuri: Here it is! Here it is! Here it is!
Amazing! This is amazing!

Yuya: AAAHH!

Yuto: AAAHH!

Yuya: Are you all right, Yuto? Hang in there!

Yuya: Dad…Watch over me.
I won’t become a demon… AAAAHHH!

Yuri: Your struggle is pointless…hahahaha.
Just yield to your desires!

Reira: If Clear Wing is summoned…
He’s going for the same combo he used against Yuya’s father!

Yuri: That agonized expression when you struggle pointlessly is truly the best.
Then, how about this?
I activate Starve Venom Fusion Dragon’s effect!
It negates the effects of a Level-5 or above monster, and copies them!
I target Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, and activate this effe–

Yuya: That won’t work.

Yuri: Eh?

Yuya: Continuous Trap, Starlight Force!
The effects of monsters Special Summoned from the Extra Deck will be negated!

Yuri: What?

Yuya: You can’t use Starve Venom’s effect.
And the Levels of your monsters will become 4.

Reira: He sealed off that vicious combo!

Reiji: All right!

Yuri: Not bad.
Then, battle!
I attack Drago Remora with Clear Wing Synchro Dragon!

Reira: The ATK gained through Drago Remora’s effect is lost!

Yuri: Then, I attack Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon with Starve Venom Fusion Dragon!

Yuya: However, there’s still a chance…

Yuri: Ahahaha…

Yuri: Your monsters are all wiped out…
Now then, what will you do?
I set one card face-down, and end my turn.

Yuya: I will definitely…I will definitely win.
Watch me, Dad.

(ZETSUBOU commercial. Brb)

Leo:  When this Duel ends…
Zarc will be revived.
What about the last one?
You still can’t transfer Serena?

Operator: The estimated time until the life energy in Arc-V reaches the threshold required to transfer the fourth person is…

Leo:  Just hurry up!
There’s no time to waste!

Operator: Yes, sir!

Yuya: It’s okay.
There’s still a chance.
Because of Starlight Force,
His monsters’ effects are negated.
And due to Starlight Force’s other effect,
Starve Venom and Clear Wing’s Levels will become 5 on the next Standby Phase.
Then, if I summon it…

Yuto: Dark Rebellion?

Yuto: Certainly, now that his monsters’ effects are sealed off,
If we use Dark Rebellion’s effect, we’ll be able to turn the tables.

Yuya: Right now, Odd-Eyes and the Level-4 Drago Remora are in the Extra Deck.
If I can draw a Level-4 monster…

Yuto: You can Pendulum Summon it,
And combine it with Drago Remora to summon Dark Rebellion.

Yuya: On the last turn, we were able to endure it with three dragons on the Field.
If I summon Dark Rebellion, it’s still just three!

Yuya: It’s my turn!
Level-5…But if it’s this card…

Yuya: At this moment, the monsters affected by the effect of the Continuous Trap, Starlight Force,
Will gain one Level!

Yuya: But their effects are still negated!
Your dragons can’t hinder me!

Yuya: However, in order to summon Dark Rebellion…

Yuto: Why are you hesitating, Yuya!?
Just summon Odd-Eyes!

Yuto: If you do that,
You can make Drop Gallop’s Level become 4 with its own effect!

Yuya: I know that, Yuto.
However, even with just three dragons, it’s still hard to fight back…
If all four dragons are assembled, the darkness will consume us…

Yuto: Even if I will be consumed,
You can still endure it!

Yuto: I’m sure that card will protect you!

Yuto: So, even if I am consumed by the darkness,
You can still pull me out of it!

Yuto: You can do it.
I believe in you.

Yuya: Yuto…

Yuya: I’ll endure it, and win!

Yuya: Using the Scale-1 and Scale-8 Pendulum Scales I already set,
I Pendulum Summon!
Be revived from the Extra Deck!
Level-7, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!
Level-4, Entermate Drago Remora!
And from my hand, Level-5, Entermate Drop Gallop!

Yuri:  Ahahahahahah…
Here it is! Here it is! Here it is!

Yuya: Drop Gallop allows me to draw a card for every Pendulum Summoned Entermate.
And when there is a Level-5 or above monster on my Field,
Drop Gallop can pick a Level between 1 and 4.
I’ll make Drop Gallop Level-4!
Then, I overlay the Level-4 Drop Gallop and Drago Remora!
Raise your fangs of rebellion formed from the pitch-black darkness…
and fight against the foolish oppression!
Descend now!
Xyz Summon!
Come forth! Rank-4!
Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon!

Yuya: AAAHHH!

Yuto: AAAHHHH!

Yuya: Yuto!

Yuto: Don’t worry about me.
Hurry!

Yuri:   It’s here! It’s here! It’s here!
Amazing! Amazing! This is too amazing!
THIS IS AMAZING!

Yuya: Let’s end this…
Let’s put an end to this!
I won’t ever become a demon!

Yuri:   AHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Reira: It’s over…
Yuya is no longer Yuya…

Reiji : No…Yuya is still desperately fighting…
For our sake, and for the world’s sake…

Yuya: I was able to endure it…
I will not become a demon…

Yuya: Dad…
Let’s go, Yuto!

Yuya: I activate Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon’s effect!

Yuri:   Ahahahaha!

Yuri: In your dream!
I won’t go down so easily!

Yuri: Continuous Trap, Dragon Vine, activate!
When there are Dragon-Type monsters on my Field,
I can take control of a Dragon-Type monster on my opponent’s Field except the monster with the highest Level!

Yuya: What!?

Yuri: I’ll be taking Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon!

Yuri: No one can stop us now.

Yuri: Now then…
We shall…

Yuri: We shall become one!

Yugo: We shall now become one!

Yuto: We shall now become one!

Yuya: Yuto! Not you, too!

Yuya: AAAHHH!
Stop it!

Reira: Yuya! Yuya!

Yuya: AAAHHH!

Operator: Begin Serena’s transfer!
Arc-V has been activated!

Leo: The fusion of the dimensions has begun…
All that’s left is…

Yuya: AAAAAAAAAAAHHH!

(Preview for Episode 135)

Yuri: Your trusty Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon is now mine!
There’s nothing you can do now!
Just surrender!

Yuya: No…I…I will never…

Yuri: Come on, say it!
Say that you’ve lost!
We shall now become one!

Yuto: We shall now become one!

Yugo: We shall now become one!

Yuri: We shall now become one!

Yuya: Next time on Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V:
The Trembling Dimensions
The fun has just begun!

BTW news for the next series should come out tomorrow/Tuesday.

So we are getting a 6th generation of Yugioh then. Hmm, let's see what that does (and whether/not we'll watch it the next 3-4 years).

[spoiler=134]

  • New Predator Plant stuff from Yuri (well, we technically got them leaked earlier, but in the episode, new)
  • Yuya uses his original Pendulum Monsters this episode; k.
  • Surrounded by anger, and unable to draw an Action Card to save yourself, Yuya.
  • Yuri's last Trap is pretty plot device; exists for the sole purpose of stealing DRXD.
  • Serena's absorbed now, so Ray will be around shortly.
  • World's screwed either way now.

[spoiler future]

Looks like Ray may be the hero this time around. What I imagine is Ray can use an extradimensional space where she, Zarc and their respective dimensional counterparts clash. While the Ray girls each have their own free will, the Zarc Boyz will each be controlled by Zarc and be nothing but his puppets. Rage and hate fueled puppets.

As for sixth gen, I really hope we get a female main protag. Her name would probably be Yuka.

I hope the next series isn't set in a futuristic city where dueling's the focus of society.

We've had that 3 series in a row, and they've gotten more and more boring each time.

I hope they focus on either magic or alien tech next series.

They did that with Astral. True he wasn't an alien but still.

Also, I'm glad two people agree with me on the female protag. Kinda tired of them sitting on sidelines or being damsels in distress. Have them, you know, Do something.

That's probably because they make the world revolve around it harder every time.

DM: Main guy played all sorts of games. Magic and card games only revolved around the main guy's past personally, and only 4Kids made it look like "the world is in danger".... well, except for Orichalcos but come-on xD

GX: School around duels. The world got a bit more ridiculous but it is largely similar to the previous one.

5Ds: Duel (Synchros to be specific) is for some reason their only way for their energy/fuel to be produced.

ZeXal: Nothing specific like the previous two gens, but dojo just for duels? the carnival had 10,000 participants within the city? EVERY kid at school dueled? etc....

Arc-V: Card game reshaped the world. Also, no job, school, or anything at all exits that isn't fused with the game in some way.

At some point it lost its self-awareness that the trait was a wacky one, or maybe they didn't lose it but it became so much of a thing that they can't exaggerate anything further without it looking normal for the standard of the show, as much as it might still be forcing our suspension of disbelief like the fact all Yuyas or Yuzus are mixed up with such different clothing and hair.

It'd be nice to see the franchise take a step back and return to a normal world where the game is a hobby and any magic/bad guys are in on the argument because they have a thing against the main guy, or at least not be a "destroy the world" kind of deal.

Sooooo today is the announcement? I wonder at what time of day.

It'd be great if the next series focused on characters competing in smaller tournaments arcs building up to a main tournament arc while overcoming personal drama. Kind of like Duelist Kingdom, but on a much larger scale.

Duelist Kingdom was great because it focused on characters saving loved ones.

Battle City was the first "save the world" arc they did, but the real climax of the arc was Yugi vs. Kaiba, a duel where the world wasn't at stake (and for a long list of reasons of which I will argue to my grave is the greatest protag vs. rival duel in the entire franchise.) But, then we get Yugi vs. Marik, where the world was at stake, but was underwhelming by comparison because Marik is just the villain of the arc.

If Duelist Kingdom showed anything, it's that "the world is in danger" isn't much of, nor does it ever need to be, a stake in card anime. If Pegasus won, Yugi loses his grandfather, his Puzzle, and his soul, and Kaiba loses his brother, KaibaCorp, and his soul. Who cares if billions of unnamed, faceless people may or may not also suffer because Pegasus won a card game?

Vanguard has done that, have smaller tournament arcs and a larger tournament arc. (in that case Regionals and Nationals), with characters also dealing with personal drama inbetween.

[spoiler=Episode thoughts]

One of my favorite episodes in a while, honestly.

Yuri was great this episode and it was actually compelling watching Yuya try to resist Zarc's influence while Yuri just drank it in. Losing Yuto over to it was also cool to see as well, them losing Dark Rebellion really ratcheted up the tension of the fight. This is turning out to be a great damn duel.

As for the new series, I would be totally down for a female protagonist. No idea what they'll introduce to the game to shake it up, though. Extra Deck is getting stretched a bit thin.

I wouldn't mind seeing a female lead this time, but chances are that they'll go with another male (which doesn't bother me). But yeah, the main female characters tend to be support-roles or fall into that later.

Whoever the next generation protagonist is, hopefully they are tolerable.

[spoiler=Analyzing the ones from all generations]

DM: Tea/Anzu didn't do much outside friendship speeches; Mai only existed to promote Harpies and some other things (got screentime in filler, but yeah)

GX: Alexis/Anzu started off okay-ish, turned dark for a while, then became affiliated with Jaden on good terms for rest of series [as far as I remember]

5Ds: Aki had her anger issues, but toned down and eventually helped to defeat Dark Signers. Had one role in substituting for Crow during the prelims of WRGP, but then got shafted afterwards. (Yusei and Aki are probably the only two in the entire franchise who got close to an actual kiss; well, they're college-aged by then, so...)

Ruka/Luna didn't duel much (well, she's 11-13 and had a condition; what do you expect from her?); highlight moments are probably her defeating Demak (Dark Signer arc) and Aporia; though all of them were in team matches (and latter was more/less due to Rua being reincarnated as a Signer and doing things). Support character for the rest of the series.

ZEXAL: What the hell did Kotori do again? Oh right, nothing of importance except being possessed by Barian's Force and forcing Girag to defend himself. Anna should've replaced her, since she actually battled a Barian (she lost, but at least she did something) and Deck is actually legitimate.

ARC-V: Yuzu started off fine, but then became a support character after being trashed by Sergey (well, she was knocked off the overpass after Sergey blocked her from getting an Action Card, so yeah). Anything after episode 83, she stopped being useful [i think this is the episode, but yeah, she's done nothing relevant since 2015].

Serena did more than her in the long run though, and had better character development (even if it did get cut short near the start of the Fusion arc).

Rin/Ruri didn't get much, so not counting them here.

Analyzing this generation, I don't mind Yuya going on about his egao, but what I don't really care for about him is when he uses it at the wrong times. Could also be how I feel about watching duels; actually want to see battles, not watch it turn into a literal circus (which he did a couple times; see Battle Beast).

Whoever the next protagonist is, hopefully they're tolerable. They can be on about smiles, but yeah, just don't go overboard like Yuya tended to do a lot throughout the series.

-----

As for the new summon mechanic, they should probably leave it with the stuff they already got. Game is already getting complicated as-is (some people don't really like how it's turning out); I don't really mind the new mechanics, but it just means adjusting playstyles to see how new stuff works (power creep too, but this isn't TCG section). That, and for CC purposes in analyzing design, but let's leave it at this.

Can only wonder what kind of thing they're going to do this time. (There have been some interesting ideas in the Experimental area, but whether/not they resemble any future summon mechanics remains to be seen for now)

I still think it'd be cool to make a DM sequel with all the updated mechanics. I was hoping Dark Side of Dimensions would set that up (still haven't seen the movie), but I suppose I wouldn't mind a 6th gen either. It'd be cool if it were a girl, but I have a feeling they're deadset on their young boy demographic.
