- As Alexis rugby tackled Yuri into the wall (not a bad move there tbph), Sora used that as an opportunity to move Yusho, Reiji and Reira along, trapping him in a cage in the process.

- It was nice to see Yuri actually read up on the cards he was using, you don't normally see that in the anime tbph. We know he is unfamiliar with the deck, so it was a nice touch.

- Not gonna lie, Fusion Destruction reminded me of that one card Jaden used in GX that required you to discard Poly from your hand (can't remember what it was though), and I do like how this resulted in Yuri's character to be detailed out, saying how he was resented because of how strong he was. That one card was a means of saying "Now you know how we feel".

- Not gonna lie, I was surprised to see Super Poly played, then again I probs shouldn't have been given Alexis stole Reactor Dragon earlier during the duel. (It should've clicked that her stealing Reactor Dragon was gonna be significant later in the duel).  I knew Yuri was gonna summon Ultimate AG Golem, I didn't think it'd be via Super Poly.

- Ofc the student that Yuya followed in the last episode was gonna lead him into a trap.

Also...I'lllaugh if Yuri ends up being the Final Big Bad, and not Leo. I doubt that will happen, but at this point, especially since Yuri gets his fun from carding people, he said he wanted to card EVERYONE, and he ONLY joined Academia for kicks..... I wouldn't be too surprised.

Okay, I was watching the episode alongside the script, which I normally don't do, but I was really curious what was being said.

 

This episode was glorious. Firstly, I thought it was hilarious how Asuka essentially body-slammed Yuri. I want to say it makes no sense to have a system of fences that disable Duel Disks if you're between them, but this is Academia, where students occasionally go rogue, invaders happen, and they experiment on Duelists to make them go insane. Obviously, this was just to keep Sora from interfering with Yuri vs Asuka.

 

I was incredibly amused by how Yuri seemed to have no idea what he was doing in the early stages of the Duel.

 

I was also convinced that Yuri was faking his shock and unhappiness whenever Asuka did something, particularly stealing his monster, and despite her emotion being genuine, it seemed like Yuri might have been faking, such as when he repeated "things I treasure?". Yuri's "invincibility" shtick seems to have worn off, considering he got reduced to 100, and his Polys got banished.

 

Then we got into Yuri's backstory, which seemed like all his comments up to that point about his suffering and such were legitimate, which caught me by surprise. And then...he revealed that his motive is, and always has been, having fun (which we were told about AGES ago - that Yuri works for Academia because it's fun, and his debut episode showed his predatory and twisted playful nature).

 

...but he's more twisted than that.

 

He enjoys turning people to cards, and wants to keep doing it forever. And him announcing this apparently even shocked the Professor. Perhaps Leo underestimated just how twisted Yuri was. The backstory also shows that Yuri was kind of sweet and innocent looking, but people didn't like him because he was so strong, which is...actually fairly interesting.

 

I hadn't followed along with the script up to the point of Yuri's last move, and I assumed he was about to grab Antique Gear Hound Dog to perform the Fusion Summon of Ultimate Golem. The fact he dropped SUPER POLYMERIZATION caught me by surprise, and delighted me to no end. I know people theorized that Super Poly was going to be a plot card in Arc V due to the GX thing, whereas I assumed it wouldn't be used BECAUSE of the GX thing. Even better is that Asuka was taken aback by the card being played at all, and seemed likewise shocked when informed of its effect to fuse from both Fields, and prevent counterplays.

 

That suggests that Super Polymerization is not a card most Academia students use, because an honor student like Asuka didn't know what the card did/was. But Yuri has it, and points out that he added it to the Antique Gear Deck, making me think he normally runs the card in his usual Deck, especially considering Starve Venom. After all, it probably didn't matter what Asuka said when he offered her the choice of choosing his Deck. He planned to use the Antique Gear Deck.

 

And Yuri looks deliciously psychopathic after winning, with his eyes glowing Berserk Mode style, and that demonic aura. The Professor looked rather freaked out. Which makes me think...what if ALL the Yuya counterparts have some of this darkness inside them, and that's why they need to "become one"? We know Yuya does, but at the time, he also had Yuto's soul within him, and Yuri seems to definitely have some sort of demonic force within himself. It might make another link involving the Dimensional Dragons and the counterparts.

What if it isn't some evil inside the Yu's....But THE DRAGONS. 

 

OEPD, CWSD, and maybe to a slight lesser extent DRXD are just A LOT more benign than SVFD.

 

Plus people feared Yuri for his strength. Starve Venom is pretty damn strong. We don't know how long he has had the card, or how long any of the Yu's have had tehir Dragons, or even where they got them. What if it wasn't so much Yuri that people were afraid of as it was Starve Venom's power?

Yuri had Super Poly in his hand from the start of the Duel, and was saving it for when he needed it; also, it's his card, and not a card in the Honor Student deck.

 

• I saw the Academia guy smirk at the end after Yuya ran up the stairs; I guess that they're just pretending to be swayed by his emotions to lull him into a false sense of security. 

The Doctor mentioned putting a parasite into one of the students in advance last episode; it's likely this guy is that student, and the other students weren't acting.

[spoiler=Another thing about episode]

One thing that amused me on rewatching a bit of the episode was that when Yuri was making his first play, he spent an inordinate amount of time staring at his Disk when talking, as opposed to looking in the direction of his opponent.

 

He wasn't just reading the cards to himself, figuring out the play, and then Dueling as normal, including reciting the effects confidently (as almost all Duelists do). He was staring at the Disk and speaking slightly more slowly...in other words, he was almost literally reading the card to his opponent.

 

Now, whether or not Yuri was faking how familiar he was with the Deck (he later revealed he knew the deck recipe), you pretty much have to commend him (or the writers/voice actor/animators) on going through the effort of having Yuri pilot the Deck in this sort of "Not really sure I'm doing this right, so I'm reading the card aloud to you when making a move, tell me if I'm doing it wrong" sort of way.

 

Because it would have been way easier to have had Yuri read the cards to himself uncertainly, or mull over his plays, but announce the effects as he usually would, with a confident tone and looking directly at his opponent, rather than his Disk...like he does with Decks he's familiar with (and by extension, how ALL Duelists play their Decks).

Oh man, I loved Yuri in this episode, he played like I would the first time playing it, it was hilarious. And funk, Super Polymerization is totally his character. It's rare I say this, but this was a good episode.

- When choosing the deck, Yuri expected that Alexis would say that he should go with the deck he's used to and went with the other deck, but I reckon it's clear he would've used the honour student deck regardless.
- After Alexis stole Reactor Dragon, Yuri told her that she's evil for doing so, though Alexis played the "pot calling the kettle black card" explaining that he knows how she feels when he cardified fellow students.
- Yuri explains that he has fun cardifying people and to him doing so is like breathing.

1) Yuri is currently the strongest active villian

2) even if the one of the Yu's defeat him. its more likely has the same fate as Yuto

3) He and the other Yu's is still kinda important to kept "alive" and not in card form as possible (i'm saying this with a grain of salt. since a] Professor gonna have to make sure Yuri don't go crazy this time around, b] well Yuto technically not among the living individually. assume the professor know this is bound to happen to the Yu's c] Sander kinda break this very order) although not as important as Dimensional Girls.

 

i mean if the professor only need Yuri as the the tool to catch the girls and already knowing the extent of power and psyche Yuri would develop into from the start. he can just rig the Duel disk to auto-cardify him in same manner as the emergency teleporter

[spoiler=Thoughts on 124 RAW]

- Yup, Yuya was lured into a trap

- Not surprised there's a card that gets out Parasite Fusioner, but I am that there is a Parasite fusion (and that Katapillar is on the spell Ruri used, because that card is old as funk)

- Shun tells Yuya/Yuto about the Parasite card though I don't think he was in the condition to be moving after falling in 122. (He then got tasered by Serena anyway)

- It was cool to see Yuto take the reigns and to see him beside DRXD again.

- Ofc at the end, we see confirmation that Yuzu is also controlled by the parasite.

[spoiler ep 124: in which the main character does something worthwhile for a change]

- Glad that Shun was there to explain to them that they have to do more than just win the duel to destroy the parasite.

- Nice to see Serena again, as well as an upgrade for parasite fusioner

- Also great to see Yuto take over completely. this swapping ability is long overdue.

- Some nice flashbacks to the heartland gang's lives, again, long overdue.

- FINALLY the return of Berserk Yuya next time. Keep your circus animals mate, THIS is what I wanted to see!

I realize this is probably a sick request, but I do wish we actually SAW the girls get infected instead of just telling us "Yep, they're evil now".

Also, how does the Doktor control them? Do they just listen to what he says? And how was Ruri able to take control of herself back before against Shun, but not against Yuto?

[spoiler=Thoughts on 124 Subbed: Misspelling Independent Edition]

​Speedsubber misspells Independent twice (first instance; Indepenedent, second; Independing)

​- Ruri informs Yuya/Yuto that Shun is in hiding and just as she is about to lead them there, the Doctor regains control. (Not that he was gonna let Yuya get away that easilty)

- When Shun arrives he informs Yuya/Yuto that defeating the fusion monster isn't enough (ofc we know he is speaking from experience) and that he wants to defeat the guy controlling them, but gets tasered before he gets the chance (again the Doctor wasn't gonna let anyone get near him easily, I suppose that's the advantage of having an evil harem)

- It's interesting that the activation of Parasite Plant turns on the lights in the laboratory and ofc Serena setting Yuya off by telling him that one of those parasites is inside Yuzu. (We'll be seeing the return of Berserk Mode next week, so yeah)

Also (judging by the chant in the preview) Yuya's gonna summon Dragonic Overlord the Re-birth next week apparently  ::  .

They could, but then it'd detract from the actual episode. And yeah, expect complaints from sensitive viewers because of the content.

• So everyone wants to see Sanders carded? Well, that's not really surprising, but BB relents and chooses not to.
• Jack did most of the heavy lifting; Yuya barely did anything (well, except topdeck Art & Clean or Guard Dance)
• Yuya claims he and BB are the same; I suppose Sanders FORCED BB to fight against his will, but then he got liberated.

To be really fair, the amount of times Yuya's Entertainment Dueling has given characters a 180-turn in one match is ridiculous. I'm going to reiterate the first point as simply a reaction; his speeches are truly irritating after a certain point and makes me want to tell him "shut up already". Before someone decides to lecture me on this being his thing, I already know that.

• Yuri spamming Ancient Gears; I guess it's good promotional material for SR03 which released on Friday.
• Asuka decides to kill off Yuri's Polymerization and make him feel what he's taken, but Yuri doesn't care and ENJOYS carding people.
  • She didn't know about Super Polymerization, and yeah its effect is pretty much the reason it got slapped on the banlist. (Keep it there please)
• Yuya led into a trap by the Academia student (yeah, the Doctor did put a Parasite in him)

• Oh good, Yuto came back with new toys. Been a while since he actually dueled on his own.
• I welcome Yuya's rage mode coming back; this is the version of him I like better as opposed to the one where he turns duels into a comedy act. (Again, I don't outright hate him, but I am getting tired of hearing his egao speeches in duels)
• Yuzu is already infected with the parasites; yup, that's going to trigger a few nerves. It also pissed Yuto off too (well, he was already pissed from Ruri getting infected).
• Shun tells them that they have to beat the Doctor to free the girls; well, that's useful information. Now they just have to get to him.
• Really would've liked to see Selena/Serena use more stuff as opposed to Parasite monsters, like her own Deck.

 

 

 

[spoiler=Stuff about the subs in general]

One of the issues I had with DMC's ones was the fact that he didn't really space the dialogue out evenly, and looked like a text wall on screen. However, at least he did spell check and whatever.

 

Admittedly, Pot of Subs had a clean one today, but still the constant spelling errors are a slight pain (how can you misspell "independent"?)
