Really disappointed at Roger's game. I was hoping he was at least a bit of a challenge to Reiji, but Reiji outplayed him in every single way. I'm also tired of the exaggerated amount of cockblock Yuuya has been put through, like, he can't be with Yuzu for 5 seconds because she gets blown away elsewhere.

 

Kaito hype though, compensated all of that.

- figures that roger wouldn't have much duelling skill, and would have to use a scheme to cover for it.

- Clever idea though, just force your opponent to duel you again and again until they collapse.

- o_o Jack was trying to straight up murder Roger there when Scarlight destroyed the lift. THE KING doesn't not mess around.

- Roger has a giant portal underneath the capital building. why the hell not.

- OH COME ON! How many times are we going to have to put up with Yuzu being separated again?! And to make matters worse, this time most of the best lancers got left behind too! Stop messing around and just put the lancers back together writers!

 

 

[spoiler episode 100 - I don't love it when clip shows happen]

- Kind of a shame that the opening episode of the new ark was spent recounting the previous one. TBH, if you're trying to jump into Arc-V this late in the game, it's your own fault.

- We finally get the explanation of how Yuto and Shun found out academia's plan, and how Shun found out about Reiji. Awesome.

- That family made the commons look like multi-millionaires.

- Aaanndd Kaito. not sure if I like the gold on the new galaxy-eyes, but I'll see more next week.

- That bit at the start with heartland tower and the chimes is so chilling

- I notice Yuya's dad is in the scene with all the xyz and fusion characters. Is the show finally going to remember that whole disappearing father plot?

- Edo certainly dresses like someone from Academia

- I like the designs of poncho guy and glasses girl. Wonder who she is to Shun....

- Why the hell does Yuya have roller-skates now? Did he steal the caster wheels from his d-wheel before he left?

- Not as catchy as kirifuda, but pretty good none the less.

-Well i figured reiji would break the combo easily, but i dont except it to be THAT easy....

 

-I wonder if the Roger's plan to keep forcing reiji to duel infinitely is reference pointing to duel zombie arc on GX

 

-Roger tried to infinitely revived himself but reiji counter it with infinite loop....nice (also noticed that the combo bypass the hard OPT because its a new duel each time roger revived himself, smart writing)

 

-And of course yuya and yuzu get separated again.....

 

-I know the lancers would be separated again, but i didnt except that some would actually get left behind in synchro

-Heartland's condition is really bad, i didnt except resistance to be wiped out already

 

-I'm curious how the carding mechanic work....this episode showed that academia and kaito can card people without actually dueling them

 

-Yuya's recap strike again...sigh....giving double episode but one is half-recap episode.....

I suspect the carding mechanic is somehow cancelled by Duel Disks, since it seems to be able to card non-Duelists with no trouble, but Duelists must actually be defeated in a Duel to be carded. Perhaps whatever is being fueled by carded people gets significantly more power from Duelists, and that when a person's LP is 0, the cardifier works as normal, and that there's some sort of random time limit before it "resets" that your LP was 0ed. Since they use real Solid Vision, most defeated Duelists are pretty much knocked out, and it would explain how those 3 Academia guys got carded after they lost, but like...a full minute afterwards.

 

Could also explain why Obelisk Force Disks auto-recall on defeat - to keep their Disk technology from getting swiped, and prevent them from getting carded by opposing forces.

 

Did Yuya seriously go on a ten minute monologue when facing 3 Academia members? Or was his monologue in his head?

I'm a tad disappointed.

I expected the eternal duel to be an epic showdown where damage vs heal and other comebacks would happen until someone could make a play that could break out of the cycle.

I didn't expect the last boss to just lose and keep appearing, that was cheap. I guess the last boss really was Jack after all.

 

Recap? ugh... I wonder what's less likable, to have an episode that's 100% recap, which is all pointless but skippable, or to have one like this that is mostly recap but has a few things like their arrival to a new dimension, but it means you have to know where to skip or choose to go through it all to watch the new stuff.....

 

I was annoyed at Yuya and Yuzu being separated, he shouldn't have let her go, the fact that he would have been hugging her the whole time if that happened would be a plus for shipping. I was internally shouting "quick! grab her again!" as soon as the weird dimensional anomaly started happening over their heads.

 

It seems Yugo WILL be around. I'm not sure if I should expect Yugo to be absorbed or not. On one hand, it'd be a boost for Yuri as an enemy for a while (if him absorbing is even possible), but I wonder if Yugo's ideals would have to synch for that to happen, because Yuya and Yuto are pretty much working together for this. Yuya and Yuto seem to not be able to mix the same way so far.... maybe one of them has to lose a duel for that... IDK.

Yet with Crow, Jack, Asuka, Edo, and Kaito all coming back, not much could surprise me at this point. Roger's strategy was pretty interesting. Since it was obvious from the start his "perfect combo" wouldn't do crap against Reiji (and even if he was actually a good duelist, he would have to be the best duelist introduced yet to have a proper chance against Reiji), I actually kinda liked it and fits his character well. Also explains how he would defeat Sora and Tsukikage.

But yeah, it was kinda short for an "eternal duel" (half an episode?).

Yuya/Yuzu scene was short as expected (kiss already). I dont even expect them to be together anymore for more than 10 minutes until the end of the series.

 

By the way, is there something more fun than a 10 min flashback?

At least it was in the middle of a double episode so I can't even complain.

I liked Heartland's destroyed atmosphere a lot (and its pretty well conveyed in the OP).

Also, about the OP, I'm pretty interested in knowing about these new characters.

 

As a note, I need to say that I'm still kinda disappointed at how little duelists were introduced during the Synchro Arc. In all seriousness, this was one of the things that made the arc boring at times, since the only relevant new duelists (that dueled more than once, besides 5Ds Characters) were Shinji, Chojiro and Sergey. And none of them dueled enough in my opinion, they could have been explored way better - Shinji with this rebellion plot (gimme Bee Force already konami), Chojiro recovering his EGAO style (could have been a great opportunity to make Yuya wonder what is the EGAO he seeks, and why not just make him a lancer already?) and Sergey with UTSUKUSHI (I cannot accept that we only saw Thorn Prisoners once, I CANNOT!).

- And why the hell Roger only had a single relevant pawn? Who cares about our protagonists dueling random security! I still cannot accept we had a 2 episode duel that was supposed to be relevant of Yuya vs "Security 227". How they expect a duel against someone that is not even a character to be exciting? That was utter boring. Ugh.

Therefore, I really hope they can fix that during the Xyz Arc. The OP put my hopes up, since there's at least 5 brand new characters, hopefully they are well explored.

The animation looks really good and I like the monsters CGs (just tease us more Houkai monsters already, please), and the story sounds decent (??? not like I can tell much by what I know).

So the machine was made to transport the entire CITY? I assume that was for when he finally had the City under full control he could teleport all his resources to the Fusion Dimension and take out Academia for himself. Ambitious as hell.

 

Shun left the others alone? That seems... unwise. Especially since Sawatari is one of them.

 

WHOAH, Sawatari tried to card them with their own disks? That's... a bit dark. Kind of hope THAT little incident gets explored a bit.

 

Edo looking majestic as a mof in that opening, which is BLEAK AS HELL btw. And I thought Synchro arc was bleak. All these new characters look cool as we- Wait, WTF, why is Yuya skating. All in all I prefer Trump Card, though. THat ED sounds niiiiice, I will admit. Also, Yusho was in there. Are we FINALLY going to find out what happened to him? We've had literally nothing to go on yet.

 

YUTO IN THE OPENING. Glad to see he'll still be around and isn't hella dead.

 

Kaito shows up and is suitably badass. That new Galaxy-Eyes looks SWEET, too. Can't wait to see what it does next week.

 

All in all I'm really excited for this new arc. The crew is going up against even bigger threats in even more hostile territory, and this time some of their biggest guns (by which I mean Reiji) aren't around to help them.

 

Things I am hoping for less of in this arc-

Overreliance on Action Cards- This wouldn't be so bad if they just stopped grabbing them at the last possible second. Have them collect one and maybe hold onto it for a minute so it feels less hax.

Offscreen duels we don't see in full- ... Not off to a good start there, but I'll be patient, Arc-V.

People using the same deck in multiples like the Obelisk Force and Security- The fact that the people in Xyz seem to be mainly lower ranked dudes gives me hope for this. We KNOW Academia members who don't use Ancient Gears, guys, you can use more cards.

Bad/underdeveloped side characters- *COUGHCOUGH*Shinji*COUGH*Melissa*COUGH*

 

Things I am hoping for more of-

Good villains- Bring Roger back for more. Or people as amazingly hateable at least.

Abyss Actor cards- I WANT LOTS, DAMMIT. You have teased me for TOO LONG, Arc-V! Just more of Shingo dueling, and have him be funny as well, not like he was in the first half of the Synchro arc. At least he duels next episode, it seems.

Yugo not being dead- I just want my favorite character to not get killed by Yuri.

Rin and Ruri- This applies to Ruri especially. We've never even heard her SPEAK, and she's kind of the main reason the plot was kick-started. Actually, seeing Serena wouldn't be unwelcome either.

Character development- This whole last Synchro arc was a big character arc for Yuya. I'd love to see, say, Gongenzaka to get similar, or Shun, or...

More Phantom Knights (and their owner)- I want Yuto to get his body back. Only problem I see with this is that pretty much guarantees Yuya loses Dark Rebellion and thus Odd-Eyes Rebellion. And that his Duel Disk is back in Standard, along with his Deck, I think.

Good support for older archetypes- I want D-Hero to be good, goddammit.

 

EDIT- I noticed that Asuka's Duel Disk in the opening isn't an Academia disk, at least not a kind we've seen, at least. That's... interesting. Veeeeery interesting.

Judging from the context, I'm probably going to assume that a good chunk of it was probably verbal and the rest in his head. Though, I wouldn't expect the Academia members to actually understand it.

 

But yeah, he wasted 10 minutes of flashbacks which could've been used to actually show the duel in progress; even if it's to watch the Academy students get OTK'd or something. If it were a full 10-minute monologue verbally, I wouldn't blame anyone if they told Yuya to "shut up already".

The opening showed us the card, sorta. Judging by the distance across the card art, it's still a R8, and the art itself looks similar to Prime's. But it can't be Prime because Number, and there's too much white. It is also still LIGHT, judging from the ATTRIBUTE Orb, and the effect is long enough to fill the entire card textbox.

 

Since "Neo" is already taken by the 4500 ATK R8, I have to wonder if it'll be named "Galaxy-Eye Supreme Photon Dragon" or the like.

 

Also, I just noticed he has no D-Gazer tattoo... and now he just looks off because of it.

But yeah, he wasted 10 minutes of flashbacks which could've been used to actually show the duel in progress; even if it's to watch the Academy students get OTK'd or something. If it were a full 10-minute monologue verbally, I wouldn't blame anyone if they told Yuya to "shut up already".

 

 

Indeed, there's probably a Ra force that wears yellow uniforms. I doubt there'd be a Slifer force with guys in red uniforms, considering how poorly most of theme were treated back in GX.

Bear in mind that those things were a SOCIAL standard in GX. Such a standard would be dumb for Duel Soldiers, which is what the school was converted into. While the Obelisk Force are the elite mooks, red and yellow were seen many times in flashbacks as the "standard" Duel soldier attacking the Xyz Dimension. So while blue probably is at the top of the heap somehow, red and yellow don't appear to be discriminated against, they just don't have a special elite unit in their name.

- So they did put the new opening in this episode, fair enough.

- So it turned out the JMR that Reiji (and by extension, Sora and Tsukikage earlier) duelled was a hologram controlled by a VR headset the real JMR was using, needless to say Reiji managed to OTK him again and again.

- I knew from the previews that Jack would end up in the security building, but I didn't think Crow would follow.

- JMR fell into a wormhole, followed by Yuzu, Yuya, Gongenzaka, Shun and Sawatari, the latter four ending up in Heartland. Ofc Reiji, Reira, Tsukikage and Sora are still in the Synchro dimension. (It'd also explain why they weren't in the opening, that I somehow didn't pick up on)

- Great... so it's essentially a clip show, recapping events that happened previously in the series whilst Yuya and co are duelling the 3 Academia people.

 - Having said that, I actually forgot Shun wanted to cardify people earlier in the series back in Standard, but was unable to do so because of what Reiji did to his duel disk.

- Academia are still in Xyz, cardifying people, and we see a woman run away from Yuya/Gongenzaka/Sawatari upon seeing their duel disks because she thought they'd cardfiy her

- Like Jack and Crow, Kaito has the same VA, good to know, oh and he cardified the Academia members, k.
