Weirdly, not that much happens, while simultaneously, tons of things happen.

 

Yuya beats 3 Obelisk Force members using Odd-Eyes Pendulum, Dark Rebellion, and Enlightenment Paladin. ...how the hell did he do that? I have no idea, but it was AWESOME, however brief.

 

Barrett kind of disappointed me, but I'm more disappointed in Yuya. So...he Pendulum Summons 3 monsters, thinking of OTKing. Barrett plays a trap that locks all those monsters from attacking. Yuya just completely blanks out and mentally panics about this for WAY too long, then realizes he can Xyz for Dark Rebellion, attack with that to destroy the Trap, and does so. Barrett uses another Trap that'll lock an Extra Deck Summoned monster. Yuya freaks out over this. But...uh, he can go into Odd-Eyes Rebellion and he goddamn knows this. It's not like Odd-Eyes Rebellion is a card he only Summons when berserk, so his weird little panic attacks just make me sigh a little.

 

Underground stuff is...happening. Wasn't super fascinating, but wasn't terrible. It's...stuff happening. Not sure why Yuzu disappeared for like 5 minutes and made everyone freak out looking for her, but whatever.

 

But yeah, next episode will have Yuri show up, which should be interesting to see Serena, Barrett, and Yuya's reactions, then Yugo shows up, and apparently Sora will show up and see all this sheet going down. It's gonna be GOOD.

• Watching Shun go Street Fighter on the security guards in the Underground was awesome. Though, they did have to bring in the Arrest Corps to keep the rebellion down (but they got dragged down the conveyor belt).
• Looks like Shinji's starting another rebellion, but hopefully he understands that sheet is going on above ground + this isn't the time for that. (Well, at least figure that out later)
• Reira, this is the worst time for you to be getting flashbacks about your past.
• Oh great, Smile World. Yuya, this is not the time for you to be playing this. At least Barrett has more stuff to play with, and is legitimately pushing Yuya into a corner.
• Yuya winning with his ace monsters was awesome (well, against the standard OF), but got screwed over with his plays.
  • (This is what happens when you don't deal with backrow, Yuya)
• Sawatari reappeared? Forgot he existed for a while. Let's see how well he does.
• Oh yeah, and DC227 (and other Securities) beating up Gallagher (or at least attempting to).

• Melissa is an idiot if she thinks Obelisk Force are "entertainment". Then again, rest of Synchro didn't know (well Yuya tried to warn you guys earlier).
• Sergey beat the crap out of the OF.
• Sora pretty much OTK'd the three of them on his own (though the LP penalty sucks like hell); still, combo worked well (although he does owe it to Tsukikage for that Trap Card).
• Yuri makes a joke about Yugo's name (like a ton of people have already). Pretty soon, they get to fight.

Really, what amuses me is that in most Yu-Gi-Oh series, almost all conflicts are solved with Duels, which can lead to really weird situations where a problem could have been readily solved via violence, and/or there was no logical reason to engage someone in a card game because the opponent had no feasible way out of their current situation, often due to an inability to physically manipulate the circumstances.

 

5Ds did introduce the idea of just beating the crap out of someone in your way. And Arc-V is taking that further with Shun at times.

 

Duels and physical violence both seem equally effective as problem solvers. Shun kicks the crap out of people, which means attacking him with force is ineffective. That's when card games are more effective as a form of combat, because people seem to inexplicably lose consciousness when they lose a Duel.

 

Seriously, I know that Action Duels and Real Solid Vision actually give impact and mass to the Duels, but why is there this weird trend of players being knocked unconscious (or something) when they lose? Is the real damage when your LP hits 0 significantly higher than any other time during the Duel, so it completely saps your stamina?

 

That's the most likely reason, actually. Players unaccustomed to the higher knockback damage would be worse off than those that are more used to it, which could explain why when Security and similar lose, they seem to fall unconscious and not move, whereas other characters with higher training (Standard Duelists via Action Duels, Academia agents like Dennis and Sora, Xyz resistance members like Shun, etc) are noticeably exhausted, but still conscious. Riding Duels don't count as much for this, because Duels don't seem to take your strength as badly, in favor of instead being tied to your D-Wheel functioning.

 

Also, I remember in Zexal with No.54, that Yuma commented that LP actually hitting 0, even briefly, has one hell of a shock attached to it.

So I decided to check out episode 47 of the dub just to see if Yuri had the same VA as Yuya (like in the Japanese version), and ofc like Serena/Yuzu in both versions, Yuri/Yuya share the same VA in both versions too. Wow.

Yeah, only more sinister. Even Clemont from Pokemon wasn't that sinister and He's voiced by the same guy.

I'm just surprised the writers haven't let Yuya do something interesting that is a technical application of Smile World: Boost his opponent's monsters right before sapping their strength with DRXD, inflict double damage w/OEPD if applicable, and then swoop in with the big black beatstick.

 

Yuri, master of being a shyteweasel and leaving.

 

Ah, yes, finally someone is smart enough to just step out of the way of the dangerous thing . . . although I kinda wanna know what Deck Gallagher runs.

- Turns out Tsukikage ordered Gongenzaka to look after Yuzu to protect her from Security

- The higher ups certainly outsmarted Shun by blocking off the other escape route thinking that he'd assume that the Elavator was gonna be blocked off.

- Barrett promised Serena that she'd be on the front line of the Academia forces if he brought her back.

- Gotta admire Shinji's crew though using the trash as weapons, have to work with what you've got.

- I liked how Gallagher trademarked his forbidden "Super Crazy Evil Deluxe Gorgeous Ultra Rare" deck. I kinda want to see what it is now.

- I would like to know what could be more hellish than a recycling plant.

- JMR thinks that he won't let the Lancers or the Academia to have Serena, but with everyone in that location and Yuri, Banana and Sora arriving in the next episode, the chances of him securing Serena is a tad slim.

• Judging from Gallagher's attitude, I'd assume his Deck wouldn't amount to very much (especially with a name like that). Maybe it's a meta Deck, but who knows. Would be interesting to see, but right now, not likely.
• Let's see Yuya, you have a way to OTK even with Barrett's Traps up (they can only trigger once, and they already have). Use Destruction/Creation to change DRXD into a Level 7; overlay to make OERD and blow up Panther Predator and proceed to win.
  • This is assuming that Barrett does not have any hand traps you need to contend with, but since he went first, he only had 5 cards to start with (and all are used up) so he shouldn't have anything else.
• Shun was smart enough to think they'd block off the elevator, and went the other way (but they blocked that one also).
• Arrest Corps claims there's a worse place than the recycling plant; wonder what that is, if any.

you're right, but at the same time, he's not taking into account the fact that he has people behind him to protect, and there's nobody there who can help him do it. from what we've seen, sora and yugo will make it there very soon, but he doesn't know that, he's outnumbered and doesn't know when reinforcements will be coming, why he isn't putting survival and protection first, i cannot understand.

 

that's the one thing i hope gets through to him, smiles are all well and good, but smiling can come after you avoid being carded. (not to mention he's already mercilessly run through all the nameless mooks, so his "everybody smile" position is a bit late)

The "wanting to become one" thing does seem to make it extremely likely that the Yuyas are fragments of one being; although Yuya "eating" Yuto, the synchronization effect, and the Yuzu bracelets being there to keep them separate did hint at that before.

My prayers have been answered, sorta... but I expected Yugo's and Yuri's duel to go on to the next ep.

[spoiler=91 RAW]Anything I say is just based on the ep, as I don't watch previews, just makes the wait for the next ep that much more unbearable for me, so I won't read too many other comments. Especially since we're coming down to the last few episodes of the season.

 

First of all, these bracelets, I don't get them. There's 3 Yu's in the room and Serena's bracelet isn't doing too much. So maybe they each have their own function? Awhile back I said that they could be just keeping the Yu's away from each other (for obvious reasons), but I find it weird how Yuzu's is the only one doing anything. Thinking about it, Rin's didn't do anything either when she was kidnapped by Yuri and Yugo was there also. Now I feel like the bracelets are being activated by an unknown party - purposely picking and choosing when and who to teleport to where, assuming they DO have the same function. If not, it could be just Yuzu's keeping the others from Yuya. His body is probably a catalyst of some sort.

 

Also Starve Venom honestly looks much different that I thought he would. But still satisfying appearance wise. I didn't expect Yuri to go straight into it, nor for its summon to be so easy (expected laddering). Though Predaplants could be high leveled monsters, or at least one of the mats was. For 2800 and easy reqs, only monsters like that come to mind are Heroes (VHero Adoration and EHero Great Tornado). Assuming its reqs are generic still (this one really breaks the mold compared to the other 3), gonna just say it's attribute and/or level restricted, only way I see it being fair.

Time for somewhat brief thoughts on this mostly talky episode

- So Barrett's trap from last episode pretty much prevented any more plays from Yuya, wow.

- Sora came in to save Reira/Serena, but got his arm caught by AG Hound Dog, ouch.

- Meanwhile whilst all of that is happening, everyone has escaped from the underground and have split up (that Lancers at least)

- Oh boy, Starve Venom definitely looks different from the silhouette we saw back in episode 47, and I don't mind that tbph. That and it's the only Dimension Dragon to not have 2500 ATK (I will now call it Black Sheep Fusion Dragon) and it and the other 3 dragons in one place caused all the male YUs to go into Berserk Mode.

- After CWSD was summoned, Yuri looked to be sweating a bit before going into Black Sheep Fusion Dragon, who looked menacing.

- I know I'm not the only one who got an Earthbound Immortal-like vibe from the new monsters in the preview.

[spoiler=Thoughts on Yuri]

I didn't get the impression that Yuri was nervous about seeing Clear Wing, but he did start sweating a little bit, so that could be something.

 

I assume that Yuri knows the most about the other dimensions, compared to his counterparts. He is specifically selected by the Professor to hunt the Yuzu counterparts, a mission solely given to him. Back when Sora wanted to return to Standard, he was ordered to retrieve Serena, and he asked why Serena looked so similar to Yuzu, but the Professor dismissed the question.

 

But Yuri probably knows, if not the reason for hunting them, the fact that they are dimensional counterparts of significance. And he probably knew there were counterparts of himself, related to his dragon. He probably was warned in some form not to fight against his own counterparts, but Yugo forced his hand. So if Yuri is nervous at all about Clear Wing, it's that he probably knows there are dangers associated with having the Dimensional Dragons clash, but probably decided that it'd be entertaining to bring out his own anyway.
