Alexis never beat Jaden, so yeah this is the first time that the female lead beat the main protagonist.

Ty for the answer.

That's... well staggering, in a way. Arguably there's never been much major reason for Alexis to beat Jaden or Akiza to beat Yusei (since they are the only two major duelists among the leading ladies), but it might have been awesome during their respective dark periods or some other plotline.

As for ep 3, new darts gimmick baddie I can't decide whether he'll be a recurring problem or a one-shot jobber, but whatever. The "Action... DUEL!" was more interesting now disadvantageous traps have been thrown in (since I have been waiting for Yuya to pull an action spell Literally out his ass and it would be legitimate). The whole stolen Pendulum thing... hmm... this seems familar.

Also found it slightly odd that Yuzu is happy to beat up Yuya every 10 minutes, but when some guys have grabbed her and mean her genuine harm she makes no attempt to beat them up whatsoever. Would have rather she made more of a fight of it simply to stay in character, but otherwise decent. (I watched it subbed Wednesday though, dunno why it took you guys so long to find it)

I seriously want to know what his monsters do.

Well darts gimmick suggests accuracy, penetrating defences and exploiting the smallest weak points, so piercing damage is likely even if not the most unique or interesting theme.

Although he is a YGO anime villain so....

.... yeah I'm gonna guess burn.

So... something along the lines of "When this destroys a monster in battle, inflict damage equal to its level x200"? Owait that's not original, so let's go with it.

It is possible he could go on an OTK run with those 3 Dart Shooters and burn damage, but that wouldn't be likely since his reaction to the Pendulum was like if he had never done this before to make it easy. But generally with 3 monsters in an Action Duel, Sawatari can pinpoint everyone of Yuya's actions.

But then we have the infamous Block Spider that keeps appearing which is assumed to counter the Shooters...

There is the option of direct attacks as well.

Shingo is gonna pretend Yuya is safe behind a barrier combo involving Block Spider and maybe something equipped to Bugondola. Looking at how both monsters have attack-restraining effects of some sort (even though they don't actually combo together), I'd say direct attacks that do something when they inflict damage of some sort are not out of the question.

Actually I just had a thought about why we have only see Advanced Summons just yet. In episode 3, when Yuya is looking at the LDS timetable, he mentions that "wow this school has all these types of Summons, even FusiOn Summon!". I have come to believe that Yuzus school is so poor that they can only have Advanced Summon monsters and everything else must be for a higher class. Maybe having an Extra Deck costs a lot of money for a duelist in ARCV?

Also it only seems like chosen duelists can obtain Pendulum cards. Obviously for the rarest types of duelist and one that relys on spirit rather than money

So how do you explain the Champion of Maiami City, Strong Ishijima to use Tribute Summons as well? Both Lava and Swamp Battleguards were Level 5 so easily Battleguard King could have been a suitable Rank 5 monster. But generally it's safe to say a more traditional method of YGO gameplay resides in this city.

And when Sawatari says he's a chosen one to wield Pendulums, that could be true if he was familiar but likely he was boasting about his ownership of the cards and his winning situation.

I wonder if Yuya will ever use Extra Deck cards.

Considering the main protagonist(s) is typically bound to the current "trend", it's unlikely.
I mean, everyone else can up and do whatever, but, you know, they will play it out like 'Pendulum Master Race!'
Assuming, of course, they stay that strict. But it would be pretty neat if he did play an Extra Deck monster, though.

I guess they wanted to start simple, and since they didn't make an obvious tutorial for basics like ZeXal's pilots did, I suppose they are trying to slowly keep explaining as it goes. That aspect looks kind of messy, though as a person that already knows all these mechanics I don't particularly feel affected by this.

I have the hopes that either:

A) A lot more characters will start getting Pendulums eventually, be it by official mechanic release in Arc V universe, or by other means that still are available enough.

B) The Pendulum mechanic becomes a very restricted mechanic, with only Yuya and maybe a couple other characters in the series using them, but in exchange for the anime actually giving a place to other forms of Summons from other characters. Making Rituals, Fusions, Synchros, Xyzs, Tokens, and whatever else all respectable enough in terms of support.

I was really disappointed when I saw that synchro and xyz refference on ep 3. I was really wanting them to forget about both synchro and xyz monsters on this show. Although that mention doesn't really mean that synchros/xyz will be used.

I was thinking about this because, for example, there were no synchros on zexal (as far as I know, and please correct me if I'm wrong). Somewhere I read that zexal took place in a different universe, created by an astral/barian god or something like that (don't care too much about this). So it would take place in a world where synchros weren't a thing. They didn't even used solid vision in zexal universe, so it could be a good explanation, and it was really the only zexal related plot element that I would like to see on Arc V

No Synchros were used in Zexal. Kaito used 1 Fusion (Photon Lizard) and 1 Ritual (Paladin of Photon Dragon), so if anyone was gonna use one it would have been him, but that was it.

Thanks for the like/friendship btw :)

Sawatari's ranting about being the chosen one, I'd have thought this evident given he stole the cards and it was only with psychic Renji's instruction he was able to play them, is just self-anointed egomania.

I would love it no end if Sawatari's dub name was Fordham or Taylor or something like that. Taylor would be fitting, Fordham would be funnier :D

Not too long til we discover all.

Le RAW (with ads): http://www.anime4fun.com/yu-gi-oh-arc-v-episode-4

Although there still like 40 episodes left of the dub of Zexal. (I believe the dub is at the episode with Ponta and Number 64)

By all, I was refering to the effects of Satawari's cards and the debate we had, but I should have been clearer. Apologies.

Can't imagine all the rest of that series will get dubbed though (especially the bit where Kaito... you know... dies 0_o)

Fusions and rituals have been here since always, so if they didn't even mentioned the synchros on zexal, it would be really unlikely for synchros/xyz to be used on arc V, even if they already stated that they exist.

As I see it it is like this:

DM/season 1: Common

GX: Fusions FTW

5Ds: Synchros, but we saw fusions in there too more than once. Don't remember about rituals.

ZeXal: XYZ only, one fusion/ritual.

Arc V: Pendulum monsters. "But all the monsters that are the show focus are summoned from the extra deck!" The pendulum monsters too, if they are destroyed while on the pendulum or monster zones. It could also be a good chance to focus on the main deck again.

I suppose it'd be hard to write around, but I don't follow the dub

I only knew what episode they were up to because someone posted in the dub thread talking about Ponta's english voice

Aren't we going too fast in anime terms. This may be off topic but a pokemon episode took 3 years to fine tune from Japan to America. As that series progressed the time frame got shorter and shorter. Now the time frame is between 2 and 3 months.

Same said for Yugioh. Whose to say Arc V will air on the Vortex< this September?

Depends if they plan to dub the Barian Emperor Onslaught arc given what happened to Kaito and all.

If they didn't then it would be possible for Arc V to air in September seeing as the Legendary Number arc would finish around mid August, however if they did finish the series, then Arc V wouldn't begin till like next February.

and why don't you just f***ing set this card and claim your victory?

I've been trying to make out what the image was, until now it hit me. That's a Breakthrough Skill isn't it? There was no reason not to set it. Now he not only failed his mission but also lost the duel.

In a game with 4000 Life, that was a pretty bad thing to do, not getting as tight of a secured position as possible.

Now it really does look like wanting to use them wasn't the best idea considering anything can happen in the anime during a duel. I did not expect Yuya to recover control of them.
