[spoiler=Thoughts on 73 RAW]

- Ok, the special opening definitely wasn't the best in the world, I did expect better.

- Sergey has certainly gained a bad reputation as the "Duelist Crusher" and was even considered a wanted man; dead or alive. He even beat everyone up in the facility, it shows he is not to be trifled with, hell he pulled no punches against Damon. His reputation even stems to the underground facility.

- Turns out Tokomatsu's cellmates were also sent to the underground facility following what happened in the facility when Yuya and the others escaped. They probably took the rap for the benefit of the others, I mean it sounds like something they'd do.

- Being kicked by Gallagher, ridiculed by the other underground people, yeah DC227 received harsh treatment.

- Tsukikage definitely picked a good time to escape (under the lift no less) whilst everyone was distracted, and no one noticed he left either, ofc he is a ninja.

Other, more relevant/talky stuff will be covered when the subs come out.

I'm sorry, but that opening was awful.

I call it 15 minutes on movie maker. You can even tell the difference in style/quality from one to another.

I expected a few seconds of new animation that incorporated them better than this.

And other social networks were hyping it up with posts and art sneak peeks. tss...

As for the episode, until subs are out, I don't think I really found out anything that I hand't from just last week's episode preview. So until then I guess.

Unfortunately, I'll have to agree with on that matter :( I've already watched better AMV's made by fans on YT.

On the actual episode: I'm actually relieved Sawatari didn't make a dad threat even once over the course of the episode; at least, that's what I assume from listening to the dialogues and reading the first fan translations released.

I'm sorry, but that opening was awful.

I have to agree as well.

Youtube has a lot of better fan openings that trump this one.

(I don't know if it would've been extremely time consuming to do a fresh one for all of them, but meh.)

Anyway, thoughts

[spoiler=73 raw]

Well, we know Damon v Sergey got moved up, and much like we thought earlier, Damon got his ass kicked (hard).

Although given context, Sergey appears to have either hurt/killed 50 people in a duel.

Yeah, that's pretty intense.

It appears that Reira opened up about his feelings, and supposedly Reiji told him that he still loves him.

Thus, Tsukikage is asked to relay those to Yuya, resulting in him writing a note to Yuzu about stuff.

Also, Goyo Guardian appears to exist in the Synchro DImension; as to why they won't use it again in this series, idk.

I'll wait for the subs (or mshends posting the script).

[spoiler=73 script ]

Last Time’s Egao Count: 70

Yuya: The Friendship Cup, where losers are sent to an underground forced labor facility, is simply unacceptable.

But…even though I have a problem with that,

I realize that deep down,

I still want to pursue victory, more than anybody else…

…As well as how powerless I am …

Sawatari will be sent to the underground, but I couldn’t save him.

I couldn’t save Gongenzaka, or Tokumatsu-san, or Tsukikage…

Yuya: Sa-Sawatari…

(Opening Sequence)

SAWATARI-SAN: Get your hands off me!

Where are you taking me!?

Staff 1: You didn’t hear what Sakaki Yuya was shouting about in the last match?

Staff 2: The losers of the Friendship Cup will be sent to the underground.

And they won’t ever return to the surface again.

SAWATARI-SAN: Hah!?

Who made that stupid rule!?

I won’t accept that! I won’t have any of this crap!

Staff 2: Whether you like it or not,

You’re still going to hell.

SAWATARI-SAN: Hell?

Staff 2: There are rules in that place, as well.

You’ll learn all about them when you get there.

If you want to live, you’d better listen.

Gallager: That’s right. This place is hell on earth.

Those who lost on the surface,

Those who’ve been abandoned,

And all those good-for-nothings who are no longer useful

Will all fall into this hellhole!

But no matter where you go, the City is a competitive society.

That applies to this underground facility as well.

Those who lost their battles will be kicked further down the food chain.

For the City’s sake, we dig, dig, and dig!

Sooner or later, this place will be crawling with Commons!

When that time comes, you’ll get to dig deeper!

Nini-Nana: N-no…

Gallager: Ah?

Nini-Nana: I’ll go back to the surface!

I’ll beat Sakaki Yuya this time,

And get back my Duel Chaser title!

Gallager: But you got your chance, didn’t you?

If you defeat these guys, you’ll be able to go back.

Nini-Nana: Give me another chance!

Give me another chance to return to the surface!

Gallager: You only have one chance!

If you want to go back to the surface,

You have to start from the bottom, and win your way up.

I’ll just say this:

You’ll face tough competition at the bottom, too.

It’ll take a lot of effort for you to see me again.

You know what to do! Get lost!

Tokumatsu: Hold it right there!

GONGENZAKA: Let that man go!

Gallager: Well, well, what have we here.

The legendary Enjoy Chojiro and Dennis’s partner, huh?

Why don’t we host a welcome party for them?

You want to challenge these guys?

If you defeat all of them through dueling,

You’ll be able to go back to the surface right away.

Tokumatsu: Screw you! I don’t need your welcome party!

Teaming up to beat up a single man…

You’re nothing more than bullies!

You’re just cowards!

Gallager: Cowards? That’s rather vexing, you know.

I’m just giving you all a big chance.

Usually, it takes years just to get here, and then you only have one chance.

It’s pretty rare to get a chance like this, you know.

Gallager: This guy should know.

After all, he used to look down on everyone here.

No matter how many of the Commons team up, they won’t be able to touch a former Top like me.

You all should know your place.

Tokumatsu: Be grateful that we’re even listening to you

When all you’re saying is garbage!

Who do think you are!?

GONGENZAKA: You said you were a promoter the last time we met, right?

What are you doing here?

Gallager: Well let’s see, I guess you can say that I am a garbage salvager.

GONGENZAKA: Salvager?

Tokumatsu: Garbage?

Are you talking about us!?

Gallager: Exactly. You guys are branded as worthless Duelists on the surface

And then get tossed away.

But occasionally, you can still find a shining gem in a mountain of trash.

Discovering these gems is my job.

Tokumatsu: And what do you do after you discover them?

GONGENZAKA: You’re just going to send them to your illegal Underground Duel Arena, aren’t you!?

Gallager: Of course. But a real good gem will be presented to the authorities.

Tokumatsu: Authorities?

Gallager: The boss of this guy.

The Director of the Public Security Maintenance Bureau, Jean-Michel Roger.

(Everyone gasps)

Gallager: When Security ambushed the Underground Duel Arena,

I was able to make my escape,

Because Roger notified me beforehand.

Let’s just say that we’re on good terms.

Tokumatsu: You’re offering Duelists to him so he’ll let you do what you want?

As I thought, you’re just a coward!

GONGENZAKA: But why would he need these Duelists?

Gallager: Who know?

I still don’t know what his motives are.

But I’m pretty certain that he wants to have strong Duelists.

By the way, the Sergey guy who is participating in the Friendship Cup right now, is a present from me to him.

Melissa: All right, let’s introduce the Duelists who shall participate in the third match!

Damon Lopez!

And Sergey Volkoz!

Random Dude: Sergey, you mean…

Random Lady: That Sergey?

Gallager: He’s known as the Duelist Crusher.

Before I discovered him, he was a pretty infamous criminal in the City.

He went after both professional and amateur Duelists, and crushed all of them.

Naturally, that made him a target for Security.

In the end, he was surrounded by a 20-man team, and got arrested.

But when he beat up 30 or so prisoners in the detention facility,

He was sent to the underground.

And at the welcome party I hosted for him,

He managed to crush 50 or so Duelists.

Tokumatsu: He beat 50 people?

GONGENZAKA: By himself?

Gallager: I got in touch with Roger right away.

And then Roger picked him up right afterwards, almost as if he knew what was going to happen.

Jean-Michel: It’s finally happening.

This shall be the first step toward realizing my plan.

Reiji: Damon vs. Sergey…

Then, the only ones left are Kurosaki and Dennis.

I see.

I’ll take my leave. There’s no Lancers in this match, so you won’t mind, right?

Bordeaux: Well, we don’t mind…

White Taki: But where are you planning to go?

Reiji: I’m just going to get some fresh air.

GONGENZAKA: He’s dead?

Tokumatsu: You’re saying that Sergey guy has already died once?

Gallager: It’s just a rumor.

But Sergey is a Duelist Crusher who will destroy anyone.

And yet, that dangerous fellow is now obediently following Roger’s orders.

It’s like he’s a different person!

GONGENZAKA: Are you saying a person’s personality can be altered somehow?

Gallager: You said something about dimensions or such from a while ago, no?

Gallager: Do you know this?

It seems like that Roger guy actually came from another dimension.

GONGENZAKA: From another dimension?

Gallager: Well, I don’t know if it’s true or not.

But there’s a lot of rumors about him.

One day, he just suddenly appeared in the City,

And in a blink of an eye, was able to become the chief of Security.

There’s even something about him offering various technologies unknown to this world to the City Council.

Tokumatsu: Certainly, when I was arrested for cheating, Real Solid Vision or such didn’t exist.

Melissa: Riding Duel… Acceleration!

Damon: DUEL!

GONGENZAKA: Then, Roger brought these technologies with him from a different dimension to here?

Then, Roger is…

Jean-Michel: Hehehehehe…

{Chess Commercial. Brb}

Melissa: He took an attack from Alien Soldier!

His last monster has been destroyed!

All of Sergey’s monsters are gone!

Damon: Some Duelist Crusher you are!

It’s going to be boring if you don’t put up a fight!

Random Dude 1: Seeing you getting your butt kicked all the time is just boring!

Random Dude 2: Try to fight back, will ya!?

Damon: That’s not going to happen.

Seems like Mr. Sergey has lost his fangs after Security took him in.

Jean-Michel: Fangs, huh?

Well, let’s see what he got.

Gallager: As long as he’s not hindering my business, I have no problems with him.

As long as he keeps backing me up,

I’ll gladly search for the Duelists he desired and salvage them from the garbage heap.

Since you’re not attending your welcome party,

I guess I’ll take a break for now.

You’re cool with that?

I gave you a chance to go back to the surface,

But you’re just too cowardly to take it, I guess.

Tokumatsu’s Mook 1: Boss! What Gallager-san said is true!

If you want to get back to the surface, you’ll have to take your chance!

Tokumatsu: You two are here, too?

I’m sorry! I wasn’t able to live up to your expectations!

Tokumatsu’s Mook 2: We’ll be your opponents.

If you want to pay us back, you’ll accept our challenge.

Tokumatsu’s Mook 1: We’ll win this, and Director Roger will recognize us for that!

Tokumatsu: What’s that!?

I’m not going to lose to you!

GONGENZAKA: Stop it! Everyone, calm down!

SAWATARI-SAN: I heard about everything.

If you win, you’ll go back to the surface, right?

Then, we’ll just gotta do it.

I’ll take on any of you anytime!

GONGENZAKA: Sawatari!

Gallager: Looks like some fresh meat just arrived.

This is going to be fun.

Damon: Haha! This is too easy!

I’m going to conquer the first round!

Random Dude: All right, go for it!

That weakling Sergey is too boring!

Random Dude 2: We don’t care how you do it, just crush him!

Yuya: No. This is not a Duel!

How can they be so happy when they see others get hurt?

Yuya: But…I’m not that different…

Reiji: That rumor is probably true.

Roger is actually from the Fusion Dimension.

He most likely works for the Academia.

Reira: Ah…

Reiji: Good work. Do continue to gather more information in the underground.

Report the status of the Lancer members who were sent there to me as well.

Tsukikage: Yes, sir.

Reira: W-Wait!

Reiji: Hmm?

Reira: U-Um…

JACK: You must not falter!

Reira: I…want to apologize.

To you, and to my brother as well.

Reiji: Apologize?

Reira: I was supposed to fight that match,

But Tsukikage had to do it for me.

Reiji: Don’t worry too much about it.

Sending Tsukikage to fight was my idea.

Reira: But I…

I had all these terrible thoughts about Tsukikage.

Reiji: Terrible thoughts?

Reira: I wanted him to lose…

When Tsukikage fought on my behalf…

I just…

I just want to be useful to you!

I want to be a reliable person…Just like Tsukikage…

One day…One day, I will…

JACK: I’ll look forward to being able to see you making your own decisions and fighting gallantly.

Reira: I want both Tsukikage and you to see that, as well!

And Yuya, too…!

Reiji: Sakaki Yuya…?

(Crowd screams)

Yuya: Huh?

Melissa: Um…This is, um…

How do I explain this?

Random Dude 1: Wasn’t Damon going to win!?

Random Dude 2: Wasn’t Sergey on the defensive?

Random Lady 1: How did Sergey win?

Random Lady 2: Did Damon misplay?

Jean-Michel: He haven’t lost his fangs.

He seems a bit dissatisfied, though.

Melissa: A-anyway, the winner is Sergey!

Despite his overwhelming disadvantage,

He made a miraculous comeback,

And defeated Damon!

Yuya: And now, another person will be sent to the underground…Eh?

Yuya: Who’s there?

Tsukikage: It’s me.

Yuya: Tsukikage!?

What happened? What about everybody else?

Tsukikage: There’s no need to worry.

They’re all safe and sound.

Yuya: I see. Thank God.

And what about Gongenzaka?

Did he escape with Tokumatsu-san and Sawatari as well?

Tsukikage: No…

Yuya: “No”? You’re the only one who got out!?

What happened?

Tsukikage: My mission is to gather information in the underground.

Once I’ve reported to Akaba Reiji-dono,

I’ll go back there and continue my mission.

Yuya: Mission?

So Reiji switched Reira with you on purpose!?

But just to gather information…

He’s not going to help our friends?

Tsukikage: That’s not it.

Yuya: Huh?

Tsukikage: If Reiji-dono doesn’t care about others’ lives just like the Academia that turned others into cards, I would have abandoned him a long time ago.

He hates the Academia,

That’s why he crossed the dimensions to fight them.

There’s no way he would abandon his companions, who all have similar motivations.

Yuya: Tsukikage.

Tsukikage: Do not fear.

I’ll report the status of those in the underground.

You should just fight without any worry,

And win the Friendship Cup.

That is what Reiji-dono and Akaba Reira-dono want.

Yuya: Reira?

Reira: Yuya has always looked out for me.

But I’ve made up my mind as well.

I won’t run away anymore.

I’ll have to fight.

But I won’t be able to participate in the Friendship Cup anymore.

That’s why, in my stead…

No, that’s not it…

He shouldn’t be fighting in my stead,

I want Yuya to fight for himself,

And win this tournament.

So that he can challenge Jack one more time!

Reira: Jack won the Friendship Cup and surprised everyone.

Nobody was able to do it back then.

It’s proof that a Common can climb to the top.

We’ve come here to save this world.

But the people of this dimension are not going to believe it.

They won’t recognize the Lancers’ strength.

The only way for them to recognize us is beating Jack!

Yuya: Reira said that?

But I’ve lost to Jack before.

I want to win against him as well…

But I don’t know how…

Tsukikage: Jack Atlas said something like this…

JACK: If you want to accomplish something…You must not falter!

Yuya: I see.

The only way for them to recognize the Lancers’ strength is beating Jack!

I didn’t understand why nobody was willing to listen to me…

But now I know…

Tell Reira I said “Thanks!”

I’ll win the Friendship Cup and challenge Jack one more time!

And I’ll definitely win!

Tsukikage: That’s not going to happen.

Yuya: Eh?

Tsukikage: Reira-dono has already returned to the Council building.

Your message will have to wait.

Yuya: Ah…Um

Then, one last thing…

Yuzu: Yuya…Huh?

Heh?

This is…a letter from Yuya?

Yuya’s letter: Yuzu. I finally understood.

Why my voice couldn’t reach anyone no matter how much I shout.

As well as why Jack called my Dueling self-satisfaction.

It’s because I wasn’t able to accomplish anything.

If I don’t win like Jack,

And get everyone to acknowledge me,

Then they won’t pay attention to me.

I’m still a nobody in this dimension.

If nobody acknowledge me,

Then no matter how loud I shout,

No matter how hard I try to carry out my selfish Dueling,

I won’t be able to move the audience’s hearts.

In order to capture and charm the audience

And make them smile, (Egao Count: 70 + 1 = 71)

I’ll have to get them to acknowledge me first.

The only way to accomplish that is by beating Jack.

And then, we’ll beat the Academia.

And end the Interdimensional War.

We’ll go home together, back to where our friends are.

I made a promise to the principal, Futoshi, Ayu, Tatsuya, and my mother:

I’ll definitely bring you back!

I’ll save Gongenzaka and Sawatari as well.

I won’t abandon my other friends, either.

I’ll make everyone smile (Egao Count: 71 + 1 = 72)

And then, we’ll all go back to our homes.

Yuzu: Yuya…

Yuya: I will win.

Using my Dueling!

And I’ll make the people of the City regain their true smiles! (Egao Count: 72 +1 = 73)

(New Egao Record: 73)

(Preview for Episode 74)

Yuya: Kurosaki and Dennis are Dueling!?

Dennis: Looks like we Lancers will have to Duel each other! Let’s both do our best!

Kurosaki: Hmph! This Duel will determine whether you’re a friend or not!

Dennis: Aw! That’s just cold!

As I thought, he doesn’t like me at all.

I guess I’ll just have to give him a beatdown…

A real painful one this time…

Yuya: Next time on Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V:

Mask of the Clown

The fun has just begun!

How ironic that came out to be.

[spoiler=Notes on script]

That would explain how Roger had access to Polymerization and Goyo Emperor, because he came from Fusion and worked for Reo Akaba.

I seem to recall a lot of us saying he was from Fusion; appears that's true now.

Wonder if the same applies to Sergey, or he was already Synchro Dimension, but just beat the crap out of everyone.

Likely is, but...

The plot thickens...

I find it amusing that all the protagonists summon their ace except Yugi (well Yuma summons F0 rather than Utopia but in the end that becomes his ace as Astral gets the numbers) who summons Slifer as a sort of "screw you I have God Cards" to everyone. Also next episode should be good, the long awaited rematch between Dennis and Shun, birds vs circus, masked entertainer vs war torn duelist.

[spoiler=Dennis]

It just occurred to me with next episode's title being "Mask of the Clown".

Dennis is supposed to be a foil to Yuya. Okay, this isn't new info. We kind of got that impression from the moment he showed up and was using Performage cards.

Yuya at the beginning of the series was acting like a buffoon/fool to hide his inner pain. He was never really taking Duels seriously, and would laugh and act buffoonish so others wouldn't laugh at him for his father, because he was already laughing at himself.

Dennis is wearing a similar mask. A mask of the clown. He is outwardly cheerful, friendly, and loves to entertain others with his spectacles and similarly-themed monsters. But whereas Yuya's mask hid his sadness and fear, Dennis' hides his true nature - he's evil.

I don't think she is a Carly counterpart. I was just speculating on how she could be important somewhere down the line. I'm more associating her with Nico Smiley as they both have an interest in Yuugo/Yuuya respectively, so like Nico wants to be a father like figure for Yuuya, Melissa could end up becoming a sot of mother figure to Yuugo.

Going to bring this up again, now that we have more info on Gallagher. Both appear in the opening so they have some form of importance, and if Melissa is just a reporter/announcer with no impact on the arc then why include her. Also going from what it seems like all of the Yu's are missing a parent or both. Yuya is missing his father, Yugo and Yuto have no parents, Yuri we have no info on but it is likely, heck even Yuzu doesn't have a mother. So in each arc could a character who shows up turn out to be a parent figure for the respective Yu: The time in Standard we had Nico Smiley who wanted to be a sort of father figure to Yuya; the Synchro arc has Melissa, who could end up being a mother figure for Yugo; Yuri has Leo as a sort of father figure, though there could be other candidates; the Yuto could of had someone like Yuma's sister, grandmother or the old ninja guy.

Indeed, Melissa Smiley doesn't really do anything useful in this series except doing the same thing as the 5Ds MC (and he wasn't in any of the openings).

Maybe she'll become useful, but right now, she does nothing.

Then again, all of the Yu's in the previous series lacked parents (on-screen or living).

Yugi didn't have his dad (although he was mentioned).

Jaden lacked any mention of parents.

Yusei's ones died because of Zero Reverse, but they did make a small appearance.

Yuma has parents, but they were in Astral World.

Yeah, I hope Melissa's role is expanded as the arc goes on, specially since she's the only prominent female character from Synchro Dimension at the moment (Amanda is merely part of Crow's cheerleader squad; Azul, like her, doesn't possess many individual traits, acting only as 1/5 of the Executive Council; and Rin, who is genuinely plot relevant hasn't made an appearance in the present yet). Her "Girl Power" speech may seem a little grating, but the conspicuous lack of feminine presence in City's dueling and political scene might lend credence to her words. I sincerely hope she gets some development and realizes the problem with City's system.

Didn't see much of a problem with the intro, though I would've rather them use something from the original series like Shuffle, Warriors, or Overlap for nostalgia hype #UnrealisticExpectations

[spoiler=As I'm watching the episode]

-Jean-Michel Roger is the whitest name since 5D's' Clark Smith. He must live on a diet of white bread, white rice, crackers, mayonnaise, and milk.

-Hey look. The ninja actually does stuff.

-The bad guys have Terminators, in a world based on 5D's, whose third arc was a really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really crappy ripoff of The Terminator. Makes sense.

-Creepy kid: "When I grow up, I wanna be just like you." Reiji & Ninja Dude: "Better start eating, kid. Hahahahahaha."

-Ninja Dude shutting down Yuya's factory-line anime protagonist speech was a little funny.

-"Well, I'm a female lead in Yugioh. Time to think about the protagonist who I am forever friendzoned with. Oh my God he wrote me a letter...that reminds me of our 'just friends' status."

-Oh, I forgot about those 3 kids. That's probably why I've enjoyed the recent episodes.
