[spoiler=Thoughts on 69 RAW]

- Despite the Cardians being my least favourite thing to come out of Arc-V thus far even though they're interesting as funk, the duel itself was decent, it was fun to see their uncomfortability on the D-Wheels at the start of the duel, and Yuzu proved that she is a You-Show duelist by doing those neat tricks.

- My least favourite part of the episode was when Yuzu imitated the Shivers kid.

- Surprise surprise Yuzu won by using Bloom Diva, yet again. I knew that it was likely that she'd win in theory, but when she drew Sonata I was like "Well Yuzu has won.". Having said that, she's the first duelist from Standard to win in this tourney.

 - Although when Yuzu summoned Bloom Diva, JMR said "Fusion" rather sternly, very suspicious indeed.

- At least we see Serena use something new next week, oh and Tony has a bottomless? That's a bold move my friend.

Just curious, am I the only one who wants to actually see someone attempt to grab an action card and fail?

Also, duel runner flips, no handlebars, JUMPING OFF THE VEHICLE seems just... A bit reckless for peeps who aren't used to turbo dueling. (Hm... It seems I have figured out how far my suspension of disbelief stretches.)

It says autopilot but there seems to be a lot of things they're doing manually. As in basically the whole time it doesn't look like the D-Wheels are actually doing the circuit automatically. Also the fact that that stadium is purported to only have 20,000 people in it gets more and more ridiculous as the episodes go by.

I assume the autopilot is calibrated to turn off whenever the duelist goes to steer the D-Wheel elsewhere, otherwise there could be safety risks if something fell on the course and they just kept going. Then it just reverts to auto when they aren't trying to stuff.

I thought that was a translation error and that it's actually 200,000 people. I thought Sakura or someone pointed out that the spoken wording was 200 thousand, but the translation said 20,000.

[spoiler=Reply and a few words on 69]

Since when did Yuzu suck? She still has a positive win-loss ratio, and she managed to score an impressive victory against Olga and Halil in one turn after Gongenzaka fell. While it's relief that, up to now, she still hasn't been afflicted by the same curse all previous main female characters suffered over time, simply saying "she doesn't suck" sounds like a big disservice to her, IMO :/ Also, she started the duel with Score already on her hand; that was no luck sack.

That said, I'm a little disappointed that she still can't Synchro Summon yet; even a new Fusion monster would be fine, but no, Bloom Diva AGAIN ¬¬

And thankfully Serena finally gets a new toy to play, according to the preview; and Tony does what no one else in the show ever dared to do: use a freaking staple.

But didn't Shark use MST back in Zexal once?

Let's not forget Yuma had Monster Reborn in his deck as well.

Shark also uses torrential afaik. Yuzu or someone else used MST too early on in arc-V, and Sawatari used Breakthrough Skill.

Tecnically, he didn't use it. It was merely present in his hand. I seem to remember us criticising Sawatari for not using it.

[spoiler=69 Script]

Last Time’s Egao Count: 67

Commons: Shinji! Shinji! Shinji! Shinji!

Melissa: Oh, come on! Everyone was reconciled in the first match, but now we’re back to square one!

Commons: Shinji! Shinji! Shinji! Shinji!

Melissa: All right, everyone! Let’s introduce next match’s competitors!
The one who shall make his entry first is this man!
Tokumatsu Chojiro!

Tokumatsu: So now you Duel while riding on these things…
Dueling has certainly changed a lot!

Melissa: I’m sure some of you know who this man is.
He is none other than Enjoy Chojiro, who has returned after ten long years!

Yuya: Tokumatsu-san…

Tokumatsu: The wait is over, folks!
I, Enjoy Chojiro, have returned to the stage!

Tokumatsu: I’m here right now, Yuya…
Because you helped me remember the joy of dueling,
And my lackeys put their lives on the line to help me escape from the Detention Facility.
I will definitely win this match!

Melissa: His opponent will be this tournament’s first female Duelist: Hiiragi Yuzu!

Yuya: Yuzu!

Yugo: Oh!
She’s fighting before me!?

Dennis: (whistles) Yuzu-chan.

SAWATARI-SAN: It’s still not my turn to fight!?

Melissa: Yuzu-chan, do your best!
Everyone is watching you!

Yuzu: Yuya…

Yuya: No way…
Yuzu and Tokumatsu-san…?

(Opening Sequence)

Yuya: Please! Let me out of this room!

Melissa: As a fellow woman, I want Yuzu-chan to do her best as well!

Yuya: It doesn’t matter who wins this match…
Either way, one of my important friends will be sent to the underground facility to do forced labor…

Tokumatsu: It doesn’t matter how this match progresses…
The probability of me losing is 0%.
To think that I will have to send such a lovely lady to the underground…

Tokumatsu: I’m sorry, missy!

Yuzu: Y-Yes?

Yuzu: What is he apologizing for?

Melissa: Well then, Action Field, on!
Field Magic, Cross-Over Accel!

D-Wheel: Duel Mode. On. Autopilot. Standby.

Melissa: Riding Duel…Acceleration!

DUEL!

Yugo: Ah! Is she really going to be okay?

Yuzu: I-I’m scared.
Yugo said it’s not that easy to fall off a D-Wheel, but still…

Melissa: The one who passed the first corner and seized the first move is Tokumatsu “Enjoy” Chojiro!

Tokumatsu: Sorry, missy!
It’s my turn!
I summon Cardian – Matsu from my hand!
I activate the effect of the Cardian - Matsu ni Tsuru in my hand!
By releasing Matsu, I can Special Summon it!
And when this card is successfully Special Summoned, I can draw one card!
If the card I drew is not a Cardian, I have to send it to the graveyard.
I end my turn here!

Melissa: All right! It’s Yuzu-chan’s turn to shine!

Yuzu: I’ll let Yuya know that I’m all right.
It’s my turn!
When only my opponent has monsters on the field,
I can Special Summon Solo the Melodious Songstress from my hand!
Then, I summon Opera the Melodious Diva from my hand!
This card cannot attack on the turn it is summoned.

Melissa: Oh my! Can she do anything with these monsters?
The Special Summoned Solo’s ATK is lower than the ATK of Tokumatsu’s Matsu ni Tsuru…
And even though Opera has a higher ATK, she cannot attack this turn!

Yuzu: I activate the Continuous Magic, Fortissimo!
Once per turn, I can increase the ATK of a Melodious monster by 600 until the next turn!
I’ll increase the ATK of Solo the Melodious Songstress!
Battle!
I attack Matsu ni Tsuru with Solo the Melodious Songstress!

Melissa: Yuzu-chan has managed to damage Tokumatsu!

Yuya: Yuzu…

SAWATARI-SAN: Don’t make the audience fired up before my debut!

Yuzu: I end my turn here!

Tokumatsu: Not bad. However…I’m sorry!

Yuzu: He’s apologizing again? This is creeping me out…

Tokumatsu: It’s my turn! I activate the Magic Card,
Card Recovery, from my hand!
I can Special Summon a Cardian monster from my graveyard with its effect!
Come! Cardian - Matsu ni Tsuru!
Then, I activate the Magic Card, Card Stocking, from my hand!
I can make a Cardian Level-2 with its effect!
And then draw one card from my deck!
The moment I drew this card, I was completely revived as Enjoy Chojiro.

Tokumatsu: ENJOYYYYYYYYYYY!
I’m sorry!

Yuzu: What is up with this guy!?

Tokumatsu: I activate the Magic Card, Super Koi-Koi!

SAWATARI-SAN: This is…

Dennis: Tokumatsu-san’s winning combo, eh?

Yuya: Yuzu…

Tokumatsu: I can draw three cards from my deck,
If they are Cardians, I can Special Summon them.

Yuzu: Eh?

Tokumatsu: However, any non-Cardian cards will be sent to the graveyard, and I will receive 1000 damage for every non-Cardian card!

Tokumatsu: The first one!
Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on!
Cardian - Susuki ni Tsuki!

Commons: OHHHH...

Tokumatsu: The second one!
Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on!
Cardian - Kiri ni Houou!

Tops: OHHHH...

Tokumatsu: And the third one!
Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on!
Cardian - Yanagi ni Ono no Michikaze!

Melissa: He drew three Cardians in a row!?

Commons: This is awesome!

Tokumatsu: Rejoice!
Enjoy Chojiro has returned to the stage!

Tokumatsu: The ATK and DEF of all monsters Special Summoned by Super Koi-Koi’s effect become zero, and their Levels become 2!
I’m tuning the Level-2 Cardian - Matsu ni Tsuru, Susuki ni Tsuki, and Kiri ni Houou with the Level-2 Yanagi ni Ono no Michikaze!
Rain of sorrow!
Become the light and rain down upon us!
Synchro Summon!
Cardian – Ameshikou!

Tokumatsu: Battle!
I attack Solo the Melodious Songstress with Ameshikou!

Yuzu: I can’t lose this match…
An Action Card!

Yuzu: Action Magic, Flight!
When a monster is being attacked, I can increase its ATK by 600 until the end of the Battle Phase!

Tokumatsu: Ho…

Melissa: Even with Flight, Yuzu-chan’s monster is still weaker!

Yuzu: There’s more!

Tokumatsu: What!?

Melissa: She just pulled off a very amazing stunt!

Yugo: Way to go!

Yuzu: Action Magic, Flight!
I can increase my monster’s ATK by 600!

Melissa: The ATK of Yuzu-chan’s monster has surpassed Tokumatsu’s monster’s ATK!

Tokumatsu: ACTION!

Tokumatsu: Action Magic, Miracle!
My monster cannot be destroyed by battle, and the battle damage is halved!

Tokumatsu: You’re pretty good, missy.
This duel has been very thrilling so far!

Yuzu: I won’t lose…
I definitely won’t lose!

Tokumatsu: This is not just about victory or defeat, is it?

Yuzu: Eh?

Tokumatsu: However, missy…
Ameshikou can inflict 1500 damage when my opponent draws a card!
Sorry! I’ll end my turn here.

Melissa: At this rate, Yuzu-chan will take 1500 damage in the next turn for sure!

Yuzu: I cannot waver in this Duel.
I have to be strong.
It’s my turn!

Melissa: She drew without any hint of hesitation!

Tokumatsu: I activate Ameshikou’s effect!

Tokumatsu: There must be a reason for your immense willpower.

Yuzu: I want to convey a message to a certain person.

Tokumatsu: Hmm?

Yuzu: He’s probably feeling down and beating himself up right now.

Yuzu: But I want him to know that he’s not alone…
In order to do that, I will show him the best of my ability in this match!
The best is yet to come.
The fun has just begun!

Tokumatsu: “The fun has just begun”?

Yuya: The fun has just begun!

Tokumatsu: Missy…Could it be that the person you want to convey your message to is…

(Chess Commercial. Brb)

Yuzu: I release Solo the Melodious Songstress and Opera the Melodious Diva to Advance Summon!
Everyone, please observe!
The beautiful and brilliant maestra’s entrance!
Prodigy Mozart the Melodious Maestra!
I activate Prodigy Mozart the Melodious Maestra’s effect!
Once per turn, I can Special Summon a Level-4 or below Melodious monster from my hand!
All right, it’s your turn!
I Special Summon Aria the Melodious Diva!

Dennis: My, my. This is just like…

SAWATARI-SAN: You can’t have an Entertainment Duel before me!

Yuzu: There’s more!
With the effect of the Continuous Magic, Fortissimo,
I can increase Prodigy Mozart the Melodious Maestra’s ATK by 600!

Yuzu: Prodigy Mozart who has entered the stage is now donned with a brilliant dress.

Random Lady 1: This is not just a Duel…

Random Lady 2: I feel like we’re watching a fashion show or a concert.

Random Dude: Good going!

Melissa: The audience is cheering her on!
Yuzu-chan, go for it!

Yuzu: Battle! I attack Ameshikou with Prodigy Mozart!
Go! Burning! Hot-Blooded!

Yuya: Burning…Hot-Blooded…

Tokumatsu: Hold it right there!
There’s not enough Enjoy in this match!

Yuzu: Graceful Wave!

Tokumatsu: Action Magic, Evasion!
It negates a monster’s attack!

Melissa: Tokumatsu managed to dodge it!

Tokumatsu: You’re pretty good at this Entertainment Duel thingy, missy!

Yuzu: Eh?
This guy knows about Entertainment Dueling?

Tokumatsu: But still…Sorry!
Your attempt to attack with Mozart has been squashed!

Tokumatsu: Well then, how are you going to get everyone fired up!?

Yuzu: I activate Aria the Melodious Diva’s effect!
Once per turn, if this card doesn’t deal battle damage, I can inflict 800 damage to my opponent!
Resonate Wave!

Yuzu: Well? Pretty shiver-inducing, no? (Strangely enough, I’m not annoyed by this gag this week, but that probably has something to do with the alcohol in my brain).

Yuzu: Yuya…You’re watching this, right?
You are not alone.
The fun is just getting started…!

Yuzu: I activate the Equip Magic, Saint Instrument from my hand, and equip it to Prodigy Mozart!
With this, I can negate any effect damage, and increase the equipped monster’s ATK by the amount of negated damage!

Tokumatsu: W-what!?

Dennis: Not bad…She managed to seal Ameshikou’s effect that inflicts 1500 damage.

Yuzu: I’ll end my turn with this!

Tokumatsu: It’s my turn!
Magic Card, Ultimate Showdown!
I can return Ameshikou to the Extra Deck with its effect!

Tokumatsu: I’ll enjoy this match as well!
By returning Ameshikou to the Extra Deck, I can Special Summon its Synchro Materials from the graveyard and make them Level-2!

Yuzu: Heh?

Tokumatsu: Come! Matsu ni Tsuru! Susuki ni Tsuki! Kiri ni Houou! Yanagi ni Ono no Michikaze!
Then, I can draw one card! If that card is a Cardian, I can Special Summon it and make it Level-2!
However, if it is not a Cardian, all monsters on my field will be destroyed, and my Life will be halved!

Melissa: Tokumatsu returned Ameshikou to the Extra Deck, just so he can draw a card that will determine the fate of all monsters on his field and half of his life!

Tokumatsu: Here I go, missy!
Just watch, Yuya.
I’ll enliven this Entertainment Duel even further!
ENJOYYYYYYYY!
I’m sorry, missy!

Yuzu: Eh!?

Tokumatsu: The card I drew is Cardian - Sakura ni Maku!

Yuya: He has five Level-2 Cardian monsters!

Tokumatsu: Let’s do this! Let’s do this! Let’s do this!
Let’s enliven this match!
I’m tuning the Level-2 Cardian - Sakura ni Maku, Matsu ni Tsuru, Susuki ni Tsuki, Kiri ni Houou with the Level-2 Yanagi ni Ono no Michikaze!
Holy light of the gods!
Illuminate the heavens, the earth, the water, the soil, and the metals!
Synchro Summon!
Cardian – Gokou!

Yuzu: 5000 ATK!?

Tokumatsu: If I attack Aria with Gokou, your life will drop to zero!

Yuzu: Due to Saint Instrument’s effect, my opponent cannot attack any monsters besides Prodigy Mozart, which is equipped with it!

Tokumatsu: What?
But still, you will take huge damage!
Sorry!
Battle!
I attack Prodigy Mozart with Gokou!

Yuzu: An Action Card!

Yuzu: Action Magic, Overpass!
When two monsters battle each other, their ATKs will be swapped until the end of the Battle Phase!

Melissa: Will Yuzu be able to make a great reversal!?

Tokumatsu: I activate Gokou’s effect!
It negates the activation of my opponent’s Magic Card, and destroys it!

Yuzu: It can’t be!

Tokumatsu: Attack Prodigy Mozart!

Tokumatsu: I cannot negate Fortissimo, since it is already activated.
But you cannot activate any Magic Cards from this point on!

Yuya: That includes Action Magic as well…
Yuzu…

Melissa: Yuzu-chan is in a pinch!
She is driven into a corner!

Yuzu: I won’t give up!
Yuya! Watch this!
I’m putting all my hope into this card!
It’s my turn!
Here it is!
I summon Soprano the Melodious Songstress!
When this card is used as a Fusion Material, I can Fusion Summon without a Fusion Magic Card!

Tokumatsu: I see. The draw that you betted everything on has given you a new chance.

Yuzu: I’m fusing Aria the Melodious Diva and Soprano the Melodious Songstress!
Echoing singing voice!
Song of the angels!
Combine your power and become the baton that leads the way!
Fusion Summon!
Enter the stage and sing the song of victory!
Bloom Diva the Melodious Choir!

Jean-Michel: Fusion…

Yuzu: Battle! I attack Gokou with Bloom Diva!

Melissa: This is pure insanity!
How is she going to take down a 5000 ATK monster with a 1000 ATK monster!?

Yuzu: This monster cannot be destroyed by battle.
And it will reflect any battle damage I would have received back to my opponent, and destroy the monster it battles against!

Melissa: She did it!

Tokumatsu: Sorry ‘bout this…but Gokou can also negate the effect of the monster it’s battling against!

Melissa: Tokumatsu still has a trick up his sleeve!
Can Yuzu-chan make a comeback from this!?

Yuzu: I’m not done yet!

Tokumatsu: An Action Card?

Yuzu: All right! Here it is!
Action Card, Overpass!

Tokumatsu: Missy! The result will be the same no matter what you do!
Gokou’s effect activates!

Melissa: Yuzu-chan tried to turn the tables with an Action Card,
But Tokumatsu is still one step ahead of her!

Tokumatsu: This is the end of the line for you!

Yuzu: No! I’m just getting started!

Tokumatsu: What!?

Yuzu: I’m sending Score the Melodious Diva from my hand to the graveyard to activate its effect!
By banishing two Magic Cards with the same name in the graveyard, I can activate their effect!

Tokumatsu: WAHHH!?

Yuzu: I’m activating the effect of the Action Magic, Overpass!
Even if Gokou can negate the effects of Magic Cards and monsters on the field,
It cannot negate monster effects that are activated from the hand!

Yuzu: Overpass’ effect:
When two monsters are battling each other, their ATKs will be swapped until the end of the Battle Phase!
Bloom Diva! Reflect Shout!

Melissa: The match is over!
The jaw-dropping and thrilling Duel has concluded!
The winner is Yuzu-chan!

Yuzu: I won.

Yugo: Hell yeah!

Yuya: You did it. Yuzu.
That was amazing.

Tokumatsu: That was fun, missy.

Yuzu: Um…Do you know Yuya by any chance…?

Tokumatsu: Are you Yuya’s sweetheart, missy?

Yuzu: S-Sorry! I didn’t mean it…

Crowd: Chojiro!
That was an amazing Duel!

Tokumatsu: Dueling is just like life!
You only live once.
There will be ups and downs in your life.
Don’t be ashamed of your defeats!
Don’t boast about your victory!
To sum it up, Let’s Enjoy!

Tokumatsu: All right. I should be on my way.

Crowd: You’re awesome, Chojiro!

Yuzu: Tokumatsu-san…

Random Dude 1: Yuzu-chan, well done!

Random Dude 2: I was on fire! And I got shivers as well!

Yuzu: Yuya. I did it. I gave my all.

Yuya: Yuzu. Thank you.
Your message has been conveyed.

(Preview for Episode 70)

Melissa: The next match will be the last match of the Friendship Cup’s first day!
This match will be Serena vs. Tony!
Who shall triumph in this match!?

Yuya: If Serena loses, she will be sent underground…
This is just wrong!
But what can I do right now?
Will the Council do anything if I scream at the top of my lungs?

Yuya: Next time on Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V:
An Out-Of-Reach Cry
The fun has just begun!

Pretty sure the D-Wheels' auto-pilot is just means to keep [x] wheels on the ground at all times, since it's like a constant detection system that it's place that will auto-balance the vehicle itself if it's balance is incorrect to a specific degree. So it also hints at a possible gyro system that's in place as well, so you can go all over the place, but it self-rites if it gets close to a potentially dangerous angle/etc.

Or something like that,

I never really thought of how D-Wheels function. The autopilot was probably to let players focus on the Duel rather than steering, and I remember 5Ds' WRGP made a big deal out of disabling autopilots, to test players' skills and handling. But even in autopilot Duels, players could do things manually, like if they bumped against something. Then again, Speed Counters in season 1 also LITERALLY affected speed.

It's possible the writers here either don't see a need to emphasize the autopilot function other than it exists, so that all Duels can use D-Wheels in the Synchro Dimension without some characters being forced to sit out because they don't know how to do Riding Duels (The Fortune Cup had a bunch of players do Ground Duels, but other matches had Riding Duels). Or maybe the autopilot system is tweaked slightly to accommodate the Action Duel rules. This was probably helped a bit by Reiji's guidance, since he would have filled in the Council on how Action Duels/Cards work, and their placement had to be programmed in somehow.

some BS about FCC regulations and text

Yeah, FCC regulations over here forbid things on TV to resemble things that are actually being sold in real life.

I really don't agree with it, since people are still going to buy them even if they don't look the same.

(They didn't do that in the first movie [use the 4Kids card design], but second one they did)

I thought that was a translation error and that it's actually 200,000 people. I thought Sakura or someone pointed out that the spoken wording was 200 thousand, but the translation said 20,000.

Likely the subbers didn't hear the "juu" part when subbing or forgot to add another zero.

But yeah, it sounded like 200K after repeating it a few times.

----

As for the D-Wheel autopilot, I don't really think about it either.

Most likely because 5Ds characters were adept at using them from the get-go; then again, only Yuzu and Tokumatsu had trouble riding at first.

I did muse on the possibility that the fact an Odd-Eyes Ritual monster and Spell appearing in a main set could be hinting at Yuya using them in the anime in the future. It feels possible, and could further indicate the possibility of Rituals actually being significant in the anime plot, something I've been uber-skeptical of.

As for the movie not following the same "edit cards so they don't resemble RL product", that's because it's a MOVIE. TV shows have to follow that rule so that a TV show isn't being used purely as a 30 minute ad. Or something like that. Movies are kind of commercialized by virtue of existing.

The 4Kids style cards really confused me once when I was about 11 watching GX, when Jaden picked up a card and started reading an effect from what is shown as just 2 big blocks with numbers in them. It was at that moment I realised something wasn't right with it, and wondered if the effect actually was there and I was just missing it. And now I finally know why the change is made.
