The .Hack Saga

Recommended Posts

First topic back, of all the subsections to make it in <_<

Hey ho, I suspect there'll be limited response to this, but anyone remember/play the computer game/watch the anime/read the manga, of the .Hack saga?

I got and completed the first two games, Infection and Mutation, back when they came out back in 2003 or something, and really enjoyed them but unfortunately never found Outbreak for sale anywhere in the shops back then.

However I've since collected all the series (including a new copy of Infection having lost mine <_<) and fulfilled a long time ambition to complete all the games and find out the rest of the story. Gotta say I got to the end with a sense of... unfulfillment, as found a lot of aspects about it weren't properly explained or covered in the story, such as the villian Morganna and her goals amongst other things, which I had to go to the Internet for to fill the gaps. Mutation was brilliant because I could never really be sure who was for or against you with Helba, Balmung, Lios, etc. Are they truly on my side, or are they an enemy? Loved that. But then early on in Outbreak it was 'yep, we're all your friends, and we're all fighting against a faceless enemy that never really appears themself or talks, so you won't be able to really develop any feelings towards like an FF villian). Also the game got very samey very fast. Fight Data Bug, find part of Aura, fight Cubia in endlessly repetative cycles, fight Phase, so on.

Still, what carried me through was the development of the characters in the hero party. That was what I enjoyed the most. Particularly the development of Black Rose, Mistral, Wiseman, Balmung, Terajima Ryoko, Marlo and Moonstone, along with the rather unexposed Mia and Elk at the end. The affinity towards the party and wanting them to succeed got me to the end, and I'm glad I did.

Not watched the anime or read the manga, but am aware of them.

So, any other .Hack fans out there happily reminiscing now?

I've seen roots animu and a bit of the SIGN animu, but otherwise I'm not familiar with .hack. Would like to get into the series, but they're PS2 games so that's troublesome cuz my computer's slow and can't emulate, and the animus all seem to be side material or something.

.hack//roots OP and ED were amazing though. Same with SIGN's ED.
