I Love and Hate My Job

Dad

Recommended Posts

I work at a BestBuy as of late November.  The environment is awesome, but every day I get family members, friends, and others, ask me the same question:

"How much is your discount on ___________?"

Half the time I want to kick people I consider close friends in the kidney.  Am I alone?  *cries*

As someone for whom best buy is a completely alien 'murican environment, I am left to wonder why is answering tedious questions so different from any other job at say... a small store register.

It's more along the lines of, "Why are you using me for the discount?"  It's kinda fucked up.  But as far as a small store register goes, it really depends on the product being sold.  Versus say, Wal-mart, we're not gonna beat them in selling bread, and no one is going to ask for it.

Getting cheaper stuff as favours for other people isn't something you should see as a bad thing- unless it would cause you trouble.

I mean, these are favours you're giving out. You can and should expect them back in some way or another. Keep a cost-plus mentality and this sort of stuff will seem irrelevant soon.

hmm. yeah, i get that. and ur photo dude. That's weird. U don't have to dtake it down, but it's just messed up. crzy. XD

Can you stop saying irrelevant things now?

I'm assuming you mean the managment and such. And if so. Yeah, for sure. And unless you work/worked there you have nooooo idea.... seriously.

More idiots shop there than work there.  I'M JUST SAYIN'.

I'm too nice of a person.  I don't expect anything back when giving out favours.  I do shit just to do it.  So that's my own fault really.

I have friends that work but don't get discounts. Then again, they hate their jobs because they get paid barely anything in the end because of taxes.

As for me, I have an interview coming up and I'm hoping to get it, because whether it be minimum wage or more, its still more money than what I'm making now...if you get where I'm coming from.

I get no discount where I work (Savers), but I do at another brand in the same chain (Superdrug) for me and another person, never used it because even with that discount Superdrug is more expensive than Amazon for the perfume my sister likes and Savers don't do it.

I love the majority of the staff I work with (one of them really looked after me last night after I was so tired I just started crying), although 1 I can't stand and had to work with her last night for 6 hours.

Apparently 12-6 is anti-social, but after 10 isn't.

I only hated my job because I got stuck on delivery on for about 4-6 months and wasn't working with customers like I prefer to do so. And when I'd finally had enough they started moving me off constant deliveries (Although I've done 5 in 3 weeks).

I get a little annoyed at the customers always asking prices when they've picked the item up from where the price is. Or the amount of damage done by customers who just have to look inside the boxes even though for example I'll never understand why they need to look in toothpaste boxes. Or gift sets when they could ask to smell the perfume at the till.

  • 3 weeks later...

I worked at a garage for several years, and customers are pretty standard until you talk about tires.

They always want to see if they can get wholesale pricing, complaining that purchasing their parts at Wal-mart or Auto Zone would be SO much cheaper (Listen, by all means, buy the tire from us, get an iron and a setting machine and do it yourself.  Please.).

I also had a couple requesting "used" tires for cheaper.  The only place you're gonna find those is the "cash n' carry" joints in the shadier parts of a city that may or may not have been "fresh picked" an hour before.

Listen, tires are a big investment, yes.  But, you don't want absolute garbage.

I mean, management there is stupid already when dealing with customers. We wondered why there wasn't Yugioh merchandise being restocked, and then an employee happened to know why. Somebody wasn't doing their job....two days later, cue flooding of products that people aren't really going to buy now that the cards are dirt cheap. We also haven't had Tachyon Galaxy in like months, or even when the product came out. Meh.

This. This is so 1000% true I'm going to put it on my gravestone or something. Walmartians are all the same, though.

This feels like a weird bump, but not a huge one. xD

Ours only has a small card section, and they hardly ever have anything new....

And, I think I'm full on hate right now. Monday I have to work. Pushing carts. Outside. In -30 and below temperature. F*** that I'm staying inside no matter what they say.

I love the job i do over the summer so much. Im a swimming instructor and its like an easy job, the kids are hilarious, the people i work with are some of my close friends now, and its good pay. BUT some of these parents especially moms are major rich C-words. They dont even tip well(Yes you are suppose to tip at the end of the session) and they ask you for endless favors and special accommodations for their kid who is oh so SPECIAL!
