Godzilla 2014

It's funny.... That's one of the only ones I have never seen. Then again, after said movie, they basically disregarded whatever canon it established, and said he was one Godzilla's friends from then on.

It's a horrible movie. To be honest I would rate it as the worst Godzilla movie ever made. Cheaply made, rushed in production, and overall just bad. When Godzilla and Anguirus are fighting I literally had to slow the movie down so it looked normal . . . err . . . as normal as two giant monsters fighting can be I mean. They also didn't ignore the movie afterwards because, at the beginning of "King Kong vs. Godzilla", Godzilla breaks out of the ice he was trapped in at the end of "Godzilla Raids Again". That's why the entire Showa Series is, well, a series.

  • Showa

Godzilla -> Terror of Mechagodzilla

  • Hesei

Godzilla 1985 -> Godzilla vs. Destroyah

  • American Made Godzilla
  • Millennium

Godzilla 2000 & Godzilla vs. Megaguirus

  • Godzilla, Mothera, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack
  • Millennium II

Godzilla against Mechagodzilla -> Godzilla Final Wars

  • Godzilla 2014

There have been plenty of time lines and points were the series retcons itself back to the original Godzilla movie, ignoring everything that came before it. Though I suppose you can argue that Godzilla Final Wars is it's own retcon of the series since it includes past monsters from the Showa series, sans Hedorah and the like.

Assuming you are talking about that 2000-series one with Battra- That was actually a reference to when Mothra first appeared, in the sense that she used the silk/thread/whatever as a net to ensnare Godzilla, and defeat him on the account of him being unable to move. Regardless, though, I did say that Mothra looses cuz' it's always some stupid reason that she can't fight back/etc, to which leads to her downfall. Because, again, Mothra is just some entity that the Cosmos use to do their bidding. Plus, considering the fact that Motha can be summed on a whim, and has seemingly endless eggs/offsprings, no wonder she is basically a scapegoat.

"Godzilla vs. Mothra: Battle for Earth" was part of the Hesei series.

And yeah Mothra has only one against Godzilla in the Showa series were she first appeared, "Godzilla vs. Mothra" or "Godzilla vs. The Thing", but she did only win by making it impossible for the Big G to chase after her.

As far as I know Mothra is the guardian spirit of Earth. Godzilla is just territorial which is why he fights any other monster that comes to Earth. Mothra is the TRUE Guardian Monster that is supposed to protect Earth from threats like Gigan and Ghidorah. In fact in the Mothra series she BEAT Des Ghidroah, Kaiser Ghidroah in "Final Wars", before Godzilla did. So Mothra isn't a push over but tends to loose because, as I said, she is always about to die anyways.

The Cosmos on the other hand are just spirits bent on "keeping the balance". In the original "Mothra" movie they never summoned Mothra to come to Tokyo to rescue them, Mothra came on her own accord. So I think it's more of a partnership than the Cosmos controlling Mothra.

We have an UPDATE! And my Godzilla, sorry bad pun, but it is a good one!

As anyone knows Godzilla is supposed to be fighting a new monster called "MUTO" which has not been revealed . . . until now!

MUTO Picture

To be honest I'm not disappointed in the least with MUTO's design. He looks cool and is going to be, hopefully, a perfect edition to Godzilla's roster of enemies he's stomped into the ground.

A new trailer, and this one has a couple more glimpses of the new monster.pause at 1:45 for a black and white camera image of it or 2:20 for its face.

There's clearly more than one other monster if you've been watching all the trailers. There's a dead centipede-looking one, as well as others who all feed on nuclear waste.

ANYWAY. Everything looks cool and I trust this will actually be a good movie.

EDIT: This is whathappens when you dont read past page 3.

Anywho, MUTO looks pretty sweet. I was still kind of hoping for an OG godzilla remake, because i think it would be a great way to make him terrifying again and give room for a sequel, but this seems legit anyway.

Any thoughts about the other kaiju?

So far I like what I see of MUTO, It seems like it's the transforming type ala destroyah and the movie looks like it's keeping closer to a horror feel instead of a comedy, in which case I don't have to worry about Godzilla attaining flight anytime soom

Well I don't think that is going to happen. I'm incredibly biased when I say this, but it doesn't make it any less true, "you don't mess with perfection." If they haven't remade one after the fifty years that Godzilla has been running I doubt they'll ever make one. In fact this is probably the closest we'll ever get to an official remake- though I think it's more of a sequel like Godzilla Raids Again, Godzilla 1985, and Godzilla 2000.

It also does look like it is going to keep the dark realization of what IF Godzilla was real. All of the devastation and emotion that would come from it. How it would completely change everything.

Any thoughts about the other kaiju?

Are you referring to MUTO or any of the other kaiju that have appeared in the Godzilla series?

Actually I think it's going to be more like the kaiju from Pacific Rim. How there was more than one of them but they were all of the same species. I doubt any of them will actually be transforming.

The movie looks like it's keeping closer to a horror feel instead of a comedy, in which case I don't have to worry about Godzilla attaining flight anytime soon.

So the best thing about the new Godzilla movie? Besides the obvious . . . . there is a NEW Godzilla movie . . . Is that we're getting re-releases of all of the old classic movies! I went to my local mall to waste time before I went out to eat dinner and found nearly all of the movies (including movies like Rodan, Mothera Reborn, War of the Gargantuans, and the Blu-Ray for the Gamera Hesei Series).

So here is my question. Which movies do you have or, if that list is too long, which one(s) are you missing?

My favorite is still the 2001 Giant Monsters All Out Attack featuring Mothra and King Ghidorah.
Though to be fair, the circulation for the movies here kind of sucked, so what I've watched is really limited.

personally, all out attack and Godzilla vs destroyah are 2 of the best ones ever made. then again, the Godzilla vs destroyah makes a bit more sense and is more enjoyable if you've seen the movies leading up to it (basically Godzilla 1985-godzilla vs spacegodzilla).

Well I've recorded all of the movies whenever they came on and I've been buying them from places like FYE, For Your Entertainment, a video shop in my local mall, and anywhere else I find them. I HIGHLY suggest pawn shops, flea markets, and the like/

You forgot Godzilla vs. Biollante as well.

Though to be honest Godzilla vs. Destroyah is my hands down favorite Godzilla movie outside of the original- because nothing can beat the original. It has the perfect balance of human moments with giant monster moments. The plot is not only dark, but realistic in as much as a giant monster movie can get. The enemy, Destroyah, is not only imposing but deadly; Destroyah is still one of the few monsters who could and can beat Godzilla. And best of all it has the best ending for any Godzilla movie.

The best way I can describe it is with what Raymond Burr said in the American translation of the original:

"Despite his terrifying power, Godzilla really is nothing more then a strangely innocent and tragic monster . . ."

I consider Biolante to be part of the lead-up to Godzilla vs destroyah. Not sure why, but I think the poison they used on him could be part of the explanation for why he entered his meltdown form.

all in all It's still in my top 5 Godzilla movies as a stand-alone (that top 5 being the Original godzilla, GMKD:AoA, Godzilla vs destroyah, Godzilla vs Biolante, and Godzilla's revenge because minya is adorable.)

I mean, we knew they were going to fight, but there's a lot of people that didn't know... some probably didn't even know about the other monsters.

On top of that, she actually showed all the monsters... You know that part in the movie where everything is tense and scary right before the monster shows up? That's the feeling they should try to get the entire movie to have, at least until the climax, cuz after that, it's kind of like "meh"
