Godzilla 2014

As many of you might know, "Legendary Pictures" bought the rights to utilize Toho's mascot, Godzilla, in a new picture they have been making. After having heard about this for literally years, about since Final Wars came out, we have constantly been c*ck-teased with so little details that it is not only ridiculous but also pretty d*mn annoying. Unless you went to conventions you didn't know ANYTHING about the movie or that one was even being made; this was the problem with "Pacific Rim" because it didn't get publicized as much.

Now, with FIVE MONTHS left to go "Legendary Pictures" has finally found it fit to give us our long awaited God d*mn trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBwsUD7jYCI

So, with hopefully the trailer watched and yourselves thoroughly excited to see the one true King of Monsters return to his city-smashing, fellow-monster-nut-kicking glory, I want everyone here to give your speculations on the movie and how it will do.

Will not being publicized a lot harm the income it could possibly make?

What did you think of the trailer?

Do you think Legendary Pictures can pull off Godzilla and not piss fans off?

Beyond the movie, which can be debated until and even after it is released, I want this to also be a place where members who love Godzilla as much as I do can discuss the movies and fandom.

With that said . . .

HAIL TO THE KING, BABY!
Hopefully they won't fuck up.
If the trailer is to be any dcidence, then i think that Legendary Pictures will do a good job. Not only have they made Godzilla as big as he has ever been, now standing at a full height of over 100 meters, the rumor is also he will be fighting two monsters. The roar was off for me, but ill chalk that up to recording issues or that we couldn't clearly hear it. Design looks good so far.

I've been a fan of Godzilla since I was a very small child, and I've seen him placed in good and bad movies alike. from this trailer alone, I can say with confidence that this movie feels like it'll be as epic as the original movie.

This movie holds my hopes and dreams from all the way back in 2006, when I finished watching Godzilla FW and wished that a better movie could be done without any overly flashy effects. just the pure horror of giant monsters killing everything you know and love.

I don't see why the roar would be jumbled when it's the official teaser trailer. I didn't mind it, but whatever.

Actually after listening to it for a couple more times I realized something I hadn't the first time I watched it. The roar isn't the original, obviously, but instead sounds more "natural" like it was as if Godzilla was an actual atomic-breathing-city-smasher.

You didn't like "Godzilla: Final Wars"?

apparently my computer still can't quote, or copy paste when I'm on this site, but to jake;

I liked final wars, but even though it was a decent entry in the roster, it didn't actually feel very satisfying for a supposedly "final" movie. the Godzilla in that movie was strong, but the ending really felt... off to me, I don't know how to put it. But that's all behind us now, and my #1 monster has returned.

Now if only Biolante and Destroyah could get more than another movie appearance...

I love Legendary Pictures, and I have high hopes for this movie.  100 Meter high hopes.

Well, if Legendary Pictures "Pacific Rim" was any indication then it at least shows they know how to make a visually appealing monster movie. Now with the rich lore that Godzilla has I can easily say that my hopes are also "100 meters high",

I'll agree with this

It'd be awesome if he fought The Giant Claw.

I've never seen that kind of monster/robot. That said how can something like that make a decent fight against Godzilla? I mean after as many times as Godzilla has beaten the crap out of Mechagodzilla then I think we all know how this is going to turn out . . .

Speaking of Mechas fighting against Godzilla! Here is a fun picture:

By the trailer, it looks as if Legendary Pictures won't screw up Godzilla like Roland Emmerich did. (OK to be honest, that movie was pretty good. I just didn't like the concept of a radioactive mutated iguana who can't do a single sh*t that Godzilla can but runs like hell is chasing after him.)

I'm not expecting much.

Why not?

From what the director has been stating he wanted to make a Godzilla movie that was more like the original than anything else. The original is a dark warning about nuclear power and what it could unleash; metaphorically in the form of a giant radioactive dinosaur/dragon but you get the point. If it does, and it does, look like it is going to go that route then we're going to have a good time.

Also it's been stated the Big G is going to be fighting TWO giant monsters so . . . yeah . . . we'll also get that kind of fun monster movie smashing as well.

So, again, why aren't you expecting much?

Oh I was taking it entirely at face value.  If it's being handled properly it could be very good.

Can't speak for Tenta, but some people just aren't into mindless monster mashing.

My aunt didn't know what Pacific Rim was when she went into it and she left pretty underwhelmed. Meanwhile I thought it was effing amazing.

Maybe Godzilla can go the extra mile and leave us with food for thought or what not, but let's be honest. People aside from die-hard fans are going to see this thing to see giant monsters wrecking sh*t and blowing stuff and being hella cool, nothing really beyond that.

I loved Pacific Rim, but I don't really trust Hollywood to handle a Japanese IP properly.  It just screams disaster.  (Like all of the other American Godzilla movies were.)

There was no American made Godzilla movie.

This movie, unlike the last Godzilla movie is being made by people who actually love Godzilla. not to mention most of the known actors/ producers have really great track records when it comes to making movies. I have high hopes for this one, higher than I've had for almost any other movie ever.

Well the director has stated, I feel like I'm repeating myself saying this, that he wants a sequel from the original and for it to be MUCH darker. Considering the original Godzilla had a mother dying in front of her daughter you can imagine how dark we can get a plot now.

Like all of the other American Godzilla movies were.

Movies? As in plural, more than one?

Uh . . . yeah . . . there was only ONE American made Godzilla movie (not counting 2014).

Though if I had to say once I got over the fact that it was a very bad entry into the Godzilla franchise I took a step back and looked at the movie for what it was. And, if they had called it anything other than Godzilla, I would've actually liked it. It wasn't that bad, just a bad representation of the TRUE Godzilla.

Also they're campeign to make sure everyone knew about the movie was genius you have to admit. Who else remembers the Taco Bell Dog commercial?

EHHHHH~!?

Yeah I've been hearing names like Morgan Freeman being dropped. Which, let's face it, if he does the narration then this is going to be GOOD~!

On a second thought when I saw who was going to play Doctor Serizawa I couldn't help but laugh and ask myself, "Where's the f*cking eye patch man!?"

From what I saw in the trailers, Godzilla actually looks massive. Not that fake big like the 1998 failure, and much bigger than the original Godzilla. This guy literally seems to be making skyscrapers look small.

The original Godzilla, 1954, was 50 meters tall; that means in feet he was a little more than 164 feet. To be honest that's quite small when you compare him to the actual size of most Skyscrapers; which the smallest US one is the Woolworth Building in New York and tops 792 feet. That said this Godzilla is supposed to be topping out at 150-180 meters or 492-590 feet. While this is STILL smaller than the shortest US Skyscraper it still dominates most other buildings.
