Halloween Event Recap

Legend Zero

Elaborate?

A mass invite for the event is given out, and every member that participates is given a PM that describes their character and their roles in the mystery. Throughout the event, the characters play their parts, giving subtle hints that bring the truth closer and closer to realization. As the event comes to a close, everyone gets one guess as to who is the murderer. The one who guesses it correctly the fastest wins, and the final scene draws it to a close.

I say it's worth a shot.

That...actually sounds really cool.

And much better than my idea.

That sounds interesting.

I personally don't know what a person could do in this site, that would hint at being a suspect for something. It'd have to be following a carefully planned script from some brilliant mind that found out a way to execute such an idea. So I'm not sure how this would look like if it happened.

The idea is amusing though.

@Thar: We probably could do that murder mystery thing, as that was a point of discussion recently in the monster's lair. I do like this new idea though

But on the event side, more time would've been helpful in planning this (and like someone mentioned earlier, don't limit it to first 15 people to sign up). And it probably would've done better if the monsters were actually scaring us + trying to take over the site (I had no problems with the current set, though a few came off as a bit of an annoyance). More events would've been good (interviews was great, but not really a lot). Some of us weren't really into the event, so perhaps more incentive to participate might've gotten more participation in this.

Overall, I suppose the event went pretty well (I never would've guessed certain members would be who they were; probably should've guessed AIX was Dhampir since that was one of the few ghosts who commented on cards in CC)

The idea of having the monsters somehow take over the site, I'll leave aside the "how?" and say it's a double-edged sword.

Some members got annoyed enough as is, and it was just some comments here and there at Notifications and a couple sub-forums.

If the event involved taking over the site, it'd be much more of a "forcing it down people's throats" situation.

Well, in a horror movie, do the characters choose the scary situation they get involved in?

"forcing it down people's throats" situation.

This is the fine line we have to walk. We can't/won't force participation in any event. This site is used for enjoyment, we refuse to interfere with that. Giving any sort of power to members is extremely risky for us, this is why we screen for mods. Look at what happened with the spam this time. Imagine people getting carried away with real power, in the name of having fun.

Yes. Half the time they head f*cking right in the direction of the horror.

But that's besides the point. Akari makes a very good point. We can't just force people to enjoy it. We have to get them interested beforehand, which is why more time for planning and "advertising" is a definite.

And that's why you should have given the monsters their own thread to roam with post count disabled.

Yeah, since he was also one of the monsters playing in this event (Pretty sure guessing himself is out of the question).

A few of the monsters I didn't see for the duration of the event; either they were in areas I don't go into or on when I'm not around. As for the ones I did see, surprised that Kyng was Stanley (usually he has very good English and cuts to the point on main account). I probably wouldn't have guessed Sumire/Opal was Sylveon (though I should've figured that out based on posting style or something). Everyone else, that's another story. But that's of no matter now that event is over.

It was a bit amusing to see Striker act as Voldemort (even though it led to a slight confrontation in Games with another member, although short-lived).

The event was fantastic, but I did note a number of issues some people had with it. There simply wasn't much immersion with it.

While I enjoyed playing under the sheet, I still think we could have done more to help immerse people in the event more. I think an active "Social Area" would definitely play in that favour, alas not many people seemed eager on participating with it.

You, my friend, made me lel irl. I would have sworn on some creepy Sylveon's head that Stanley was Dem.

Same with Striker who acted damn well as Lord Voldemort.

still lelling

The Ringmaster reminded me of a less fed-up version of the Digiquartz game master.

As for making this event more lively or interactive, it's kind of hard given the limits of what we can actually do without bumping into people's privacy or losing the overview. Well I did drop Hypno's lullaby into some member sigs while also giving a little hint that I may be someone with ties to a mod or even a mod.xD But logging in and out with the accounts and trying to not draw suspicion with the constant switching isn't too practical. That's basically all I came up with because anything else (like changing people's avis into something scary, like someone suggested before) wouldn't pass without rustling someone's jimmies, lol.

Wait people actually thought I was Upyr? People obviously don't know that many people then.

Assumptions aside I think people need to draw a line between being annoyed and taking it too far. I saw a lot of negative reactions and It was overall unnecessary, I feel we needed a way to put everything into an area where it's kind of in closed proximity.
