All righty. Here is a game that not only breaks the fourth wall, but the characters actually come out of the tv: Hyperdimension Neptunia.

First off, I'll get this out of the way: Breaking the fourth wall.

Breaking the fourth wall: A moment in a play or cartton where the characters acknowledge the existence of the audience. Cartoons did it, a few OVa's did it, anime's did it and This game does it to a tee. Remember these:

Bugs Bunny: Look, out there in the audience.
Gossamer: PEOPLE?! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Or this:

Mr. Dana (When he's looking at the viewers): Hey, you ever notice that even though I'm the main protagonist I have the fewest scenes?
Mimika: Who are you talking too Mr. Dana?

Or this:

Natsuki: What're you doing? What happened to our big action scene? It was starting to get really good.
Aka: Oh come on, you know that's not the kind of "action" people want to see in a sophisticated comedy.
Natsuki: Oh yeah? Well who said so?
Emi: According to market research we have to respond to what the audience wants, you know?

Those are examples of breaking the forth wall and this game does it to a tee. Here is one example:

Neptune: Wh-Whatever. Hello? Is anyone here? Can I walk around?

This is HI-Larious to a fault. Every chance Neptune gets... BAM! Fourth wall, shattered into a million pieces. Which brings up the second thing, the characters:

Nep-Nepgoddess.jpg
Nep-Nep.jpgNeptune (also known as Lady Purple Heart): The main protagonist except for the second game of the series. Childlike and hilarious to a fault, known for making insane video game references or breaking the fourth wall (Man I just can't stay away from that). Voiced by Mellisa Fahn who voiced Gaz in Invader Zim (Which is NOT an anime) and Anise Tatlin from Tales of the Abyss, Neptune is the comical jokester of the group that could give the Looney Tunes a run for their money. She's supposed to represent Sega you know: SEGA! and... Well... Moving on. She's goofy in her human form but when it comes to battles she has an HDD state that makes her more serious. Her weapon of choice is a Sword in both normal and HDD states (for those of you who don't know, HDD stands for Hard Drive Divinity.)

Purple Heart: Neptune does what all of you don't.

Sound familiar?

Bam! Sega reference.

Next character is...

HN5.jpg
Compa, a ditzy yet caring nurse. Sometimes she takes it too far. She could wrap bandages around you like a mummy. Compa is named after Compile Heart, one of the developers behind this game. Voiced by Christina Vee who was the voice of Cerebella in SkullGirls, Compa serves as the healer of the group and uses a giant Syringe as a weapon. Ditzy, yet easy to cry she is a ray of sunshine that can easily be called cute.

HN2.jpg
Then there's IF, no not If, I.F. but her friends call her Iffy. She's a member of the Guild, not much is known about it but she has a LOT of cell phones. I bet she has contacts from all over Gamindustri with them. She's smart, sassy and a good melee character with her Qatars and Wolverine-esque Claws. Voiced by Kate Higgins which most of you remember as Retsu Unohana and Denbo IF, named after Idea Factory, is a good buddy.

Now for the other CPU's or Console Patron Units. Frst of everyone's favorite:

Noiregoddess.jpg
Noire.jpg
Lady Black Heart, later to be known as Noire. She represents all things Playstation. After Neptune beats her and she joins us we find out more about her. For instance she looks like one of the characters from K-On. Next, she is an anime nut who loves to cosplay. Finally she plays guitar like a pro mastering the music of K-On!'s opening and ending themes. Also She's a Tsundere. Voiced by Erin Fitzgerald, think Naz from Ed, Edd and Eddy and Ion from Tales of the Abyss, And with an armor modeled after the system she's based on, Black Heart is one addition you will love.
Blancgoddess.jpg
Blanc.jpg
Lady White Heart, later to be known as Blanc. She represents Nintendo, as such she is the oldest of the CPU's. She is a Loli, however her temper and foul language make Gordon Ramsey look like a saint. Neptune tricks her into joining her. She loves to read book and write fan-fiction but her writing style is not something to be desired. And anyone, I mean ANYONE, who mocks her chest will never see the light of day. Voiced by veteran Wendee Lee, Haruhi Suzumiya, Yoruichi and little T. K., White Heart is aok.

Vertgoddess.jpg
Vert.jpg
Lady Green Heart, later known as Vert. She represents the XBOX and has the biggest chest of the CPU's. So much that her HDD state is revealing so she can ventilate. The way I see the fight ending:
Neptune and Green Heart show signs of fatigue and Neptune falls but just as Green Heart is about to deliver the finishing blow, she feels something and her lance stops mere inches from Neptune's heart. She just stands still. Neptune then pushes the lance with her finger and Green Heart falls and her eyes are swirling. "I win." said Neptune. "Lady Green Heart is unable to battle so the victory goes to Neptune." said Compa. "Wrong franchise." said IF. A while later Lady Green Heart regains consciousness. "What happened?" asked Green Heart in her human form. "I'm afraid you lost." said the Sanctioned. "I see, a promise is a promise." said Green Heart as she gets out of bed. She goes to Neptune and says "As promised, I will join you." "Sweet." said Neptune "Welcome aboard Vert." "Vert?" asked a confused Green Heart. "Yeah" said Neptune. "It'll be your name in human form. Black Heart is Noire and White Heart is Blanc so why not." "Vert." said Green Heart. "It's a fine name. All right, you guys can call me Vert."
Now you'd figure a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, big-chested woman like Vert wouldn't be interested in games, you'd be WRONG! Vert loves playing games. She would play for at least 150 hours a WEEK. Which explains why she's overexausted, as for food, you ladies will be jealous of this, she hoardes a week's worth of food in her room and no matter how much she eats she NEVER GAINS AN OUNCE. She's the hardest of hardcore gamers that would make even the most experienced gamer cringe. Plus...

Voiced by Tara Platt, Raine Sage in Symphonia and the sequel, Green Heart is one woman you'll go gaga over.

Of course what is a series without a bad guy?

Arfoire, the former goddess who wishes to destroy all of Gamindustri. Voiced by a woman named Laura Post who voiced Valentine in Skullgirls.

Other good guys include:

Histoire: A tome that serves as a record keeper and is quite knowledgeable and speaks calmly. Voiced by Stephanie Sheh, think Orihime from Bleach.

NISA, a self proclaimed Heroine of Justice with a modest chest. Michelle Ruff, Rita Mordio in Tales of Vesperia, voices her.

Gust: A child with knowledge in alchemy and money. She is voiced by Cassandra Morris Lee, Sophie in Tales of Graces (f).

RED: A girl who loves girls who dresses in, well, red.

and

5pb: A beautiful idol who is shy off-stage. Her real name is Lyrica and is voiced by Mela Lee.

So anyway what do you all think?

Obligatory Noire is hot statement.

Also, I still need to get  my hands on Victory, I heard they balanced a lot of things in that game from Mk II. I don't really like the constant breaking the fourth wall, but it's also not a thing to get soooooooo immersed into a game that people are just like "OMG YOU JUST BROKE THE IMMERSION OF THE GAME, I QUIT". It's good that it takes itself seriously in parts that it needs to take itself seriously, and is comedic otherwise.

Seen, and liked the anime. Probably wasn't a really good adaption, but it was moe and I liked it. Waitin' for the remake on the vita to come out in english so I can actually play the games. Cuz you know, I have a PS3 and all, but considering its in the living room, my parents are almost always in the living room as well, it's kinda hard to play a fanservice game ;_;

Indeed. Like Lady White Heart who has a worse temper than Chef Ramsey.

Right. Gotta keep it secret. Kinda makes you wonder if they'll reunite the cast from the games for the anime.
