Okay so for those who haven't seen the new episode I suggest you don't read any further.

I warned you . . .

So, it's now pretty much official that Verrick is indeed evil; or at the very least using the war to line his pockets by selling to both sides. You completely forget that he has patents which could be for ANYTHING, including . . . uh . . . explosives. Also it is funny to see Bolin getting back at Mako for dissing him in earlier episodes.

And I hope everyone is happy. Keep complaining about Korra's personality and now we're given an amnesiac Avatar.

Well, guess that's a convenient way of making Korra a "blank slate".

That was actually a pretty good way to pull it off. Korra's such a terrible character the only way she'd possibly have a spiritual connection with the first Avatar would be if she completely restarted herself from the beginning.

VARRICK, WHY?!?!

At the end of the episode, regarding Korra, one of my friends just said out of the blue, "Oh my god, it's Aang!" Like, she's possessed by younger Aang or something. Which, given she airbent those guys and the way she said, "Get away from me!" sounded like an Aang tone, I won't dismiss the idea immediately.

And the show just showed off one of its problems, that it gets so much better when Korra isn't there.

Anyway, the twist was kind of given away since I saw a few people talking about Verrick. Honestly the switch for the bombs kinds of gave it away last episode. Still, he is interesting and what he is doing isn't clear. I like that.

I just want to know what are they going to do with the Korra, Mako, Asami love triangle. First he likes Asami but Korra Likes him, then Asami and Mako break up and he shacks up with Korra, then they break up and Asami kisses Mako (albeit they both felt awkward afterward) while Korra is on an island with amnesia. Seriously Nickelodeon, what next?

Wan's story was amazing. It was paced well, characters were well written and likeable, animated extremely well, and just head and shoulders above Korra's entire story so far.

Two lingering thoughts:

- I don't know how Wan's story goes towards existing canon. We were told Oma and Shu were the first Earthbenders, but it seems that any random could ask for powers from the Lion Turtles. Am I missing something?

- On the one hand, I'd love to see the story of Wan continue. On the other hand, the story had a lot of closure, and it ends with him dying so there's nowhere to really go with this. On the third hand, I think I'd like to see the adventures of other Avatars in the lines before (after?) Korra. Cool little standalone quests of how the Avatar-verse was made. On the fourth hand, I only really wanna see it because I really dislike Korra and I think the best way to move forward would be to toss it out entirely and start from scratch.

I think the Lion Turtle saying "we will never again give bending to people" was meant to be a way to keep people from having it until it was eventually rediscovered.

Anyway, this was an amazing episode. Sure past episodes had decent moments with the characters that weren't Korra, but this was aces from start to finish. I loved the little touches like having the avatar cycle be the order he meet the turtles and how the group that would become the air benders always had a strong connection to spirits. Also, the dragon dance.

I felt there was a bit of a Miyazaki feel to the episodes. Wan rode a deer animal like in Mononoke and seeing all those spirits migrating over the bridge reminded me of Spirited Away.

You actually have the radish spirit in there from Spirited Away and I got the same feeling that Wan had something akin to Princess Mononoke.

I think its both. Korra was a lot better this episode. Lin is being stupid and Unalaq has lost credit he had as a villain. Tenzin was a bit frustrating as well, but I at least understand why he was being so. He has spent his whole life trying to have a connection to the spirits. He felt pressured to do so not just because he was the last Airbender for some time but also because he was the Avatar's son.

Random thoughts:

- If Jinora was Korra's guide to the Spirit World, couldn't she also be Tenzin's guide? I mean, for cryin' out loud. What a baby.

- I really liked that Audrey Plaza's character (the girl twin) went to help her brother when he was injured.

- The first Avatar's name was Wan? Does that mean the second avatar's name was Too? *instantrimshot(dot)com*
