The Epsilon Crisis: Chapter 1 (PG-16/3 Spaces)

Recommended Posts

Looking for a Co-Op

Congratulations, ARW Pilot.

You have been selected for a mission of utmost importance. Your talents have drawn the attention of General Xeron, who heads our Space Expedition. As part of this assignment, you are hereby promoted to the ARW Special Forces

Present yourself to the general at 14:00 on Sunday, November 3rd.

Once again, congratulations on this accomplishment, and good luck on your new

Commander Tiryu of the Armored Robotic Warrior Division

"This mission is essential to our future. The space colony Epsilon lost contact with our control center several days ago. The causes are currently unknown, but we believe hostile a may be on board.
You were chosen because of your respective talents and piloting prowess. Find out what caused the outage, help the people in any way you can, and make sure the colony is secure.

We need you to leave immediately; we've already taken too much time. The ship Ethereal will take off in an hour. We're counting on you."

This was the speech given before you, a mech-pilot for the ARW Division of the military, were sent into space. As the ship approaches the colony, something seems off. You decide to wait for a short time, get to know your fellow crew, then begin your mission's first objective: Find out what happened to cut off the colony's communications.

As you step out of the ship in your mech, a sinister chill hangs in the air. Something terrible has happened here.
- - - __ __ __ - - -

This RP has two overarching areas: The Ethereal: the ship you were sent out on, not only your means of transportation, but your living quarters while on this mission, and Epsilon, a human space colony (an extremely large ship, viewed only as a steel orb on the outside) that hides a sinister secret, and dangerous creatures.

As time goes on, you will make discoveries that slowly unravel the mystery of the events that took place here. And have to fight for your life on occasion, too. Just because you're inside a mech doesn't mean you're safe.

Rules:
Stick to the PG-16 rating. Don't go over the top or I WILL take action. I don't want this closed down because someone crossed a line.

This is an rp with futuristic technology. Laser and pure-energy weapons DO exist, and you can have them on your mech.

Characters don't have to be all buddy-buddy even though they're on the same side. There can be rivalries and even hatred.

Follow ALL the site rules.

One-liners, godmodding, and pointless posts are NOT allowed. Post something that moves the plot forward or develops characters!

This will not start until, including my character, there are six pilots.

Important Details:
The Ethereal is a transport ship with very few combat capabilities. The furnishings are comfortable, but not overly lavish. There is living space for each of the six pilots, and enough supplies to last until November 30th (27 days). Fortunately "space food" no longer follows old stereotypes: Ordinary food and drink is now able to be preserved while on board the ship in space.

Complex mech repairs are also to be conducted only on the Ethereal, where there are tools and materials for such things. Emergency repairs may be made in the field with whatever materials you find, but these should only be temporary.
These "mech suits", as they're called, are made of the most durable steel man has created. They stand anywhere from twenty to thirty feet in height, with varying proportions depending on the preference and style of the pilot.

The pilot must strap into several sensors when they climb into the mech. This control center is the size of a small room, containing vitals info as well as a monitor to view the environment around them. This gives the pilot a reasonable amount of space considering the fact that they are forced to stay in one spot.

Because these sensors are wired to the mech itself, the pilot's movement is limited, but they are protected by the mech's steel armor. This should keep them safe, although highly damaging impacts can disrupt the sensors and set off electric shocks. The pilot, in theory, is in minimal danger.

Mech weaponry varies, once again based on the pilot's preference. Some prefer fast, light weapons (Speed Mechs), some prefer heavy artillery and destructive power (Heavy Mechs), and some sit in between. (Balanced Mechs)
It is HIGHLY recommended that you never leave the Ethereal, and even more importantly, NEVER go into Epsilon unless you are inside your mech. There are many reasons for this, most of them common sense, others revealed as time goes on.

(Meaning if you do, your character WILL NOT survive. Don't even attempt it.)

Name: Luke Ilayna
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Kai.Toshiki.full.489863.jpg
Skills: Can quickly understand things, has emergency field first-aid training (not great, but better than nothing), skilled marksman.
Backstory: Luke came from a middle-class family, and always aspired to join the ARW Division. After all, what small child doesnt want a giant robot?

As for family, he's an only child. Perhaps because of this, his parents don't entirely approve of his career choice but see that he is happy with it. They give him their support in most things. He gives them warnings when he gets missions.

As a rookie pilot, Luke drew attention through a small degree of natural skill, and the speed at which he learned to operate his mech, quickly rising through the ranks. He has never been in an all-out combat zone due to his age.

He doesn't have many close friends, but likes things that way. He has a reputation for being cold until people earn his trust or respect, but this is completely unintentional. He has publicly claimed that this is just him speaking his mind.
Other: In his off time, he is a gamer; this sometimes creeps into his vocabulary when he gets carried away.

Mech Details
Name: Frozen Shadow
Appearance:
White_Glint2.jpg
Armaments: The equivalent of a .50 caliber bolt action sniper rifle on one arm, able to zoom in via a visor in the control center, as well as a shotgun similar to an M1014 mounted on the other for closer encounters.
Defensive Measures: The armor playing on Frozen Shadow isn't as heavy as standard ARW mechs, as Luke relies heavily on speed and staying out of range to fight.

There is a booster to be activated in emergencies, rocketing him away from potential threats at high speeds, but this is tough to maneuver, especially in high-stress situations.

Pilot Details

Name: Johnathon "John" Alexander Blackmoore

Age: 37

Gender: Male
Standing just under six feet in height, John Blackmoore is a fairly imposing figure.  His body is fairly muscular, as one would expect from a soldier, and covered from head to toe in a spiderweb of scars.  The most notable scar on his body is one that runs straight across his face under the eyes and with a chunk taken out of his nose.  His dirty blonde hair, however, typically hangs down in an unkempt mess about his head, down just past his nose in length.  His skin is rather darkly tanned, or at least it appears to be a tan, and in some areas such as his hands is dark enough to appear as leather.  He bears a rugged face, his chin at a rather sharp angle upon a firm jaw and a nose angled slightly to one side as if it had been broken and healed improperly.  Rounding this all out are the deep emerald green eyes set into his visage that seem to shine with their own light.  When it comes to clothing, he usually only wears a standard issue black skin-tight suit meant for ARW pilots with a tool belt around his waist.

Mechanical Skill:  Blackmoore is remarkably skilled with machines, able to make repairs on the fly and even build and create new machines out of as little as hunks of scrap laying around.  Most often though this skill comes into play in the form of quick battlefield repairs to his own mech.

CQB:  John takes close quarters combat to a new level through use of a violent combat style which does not necessarily fall under the lines of any existing martial art.  He specializes in hard, fast strikes meant to hit and take the enemy down before they can know what hit them.

Guerrilla Tactics:  Well versed in stealth and lighting attacks, this soldier is something of a specialist in nontraditional warfare.  Everything from striking an enemy seemingly from nowhere to utilizing terror tactics to break their morale he is skilled in, and to some degree delights in.

Piloting:  A capable pilot, Blackmoore is able to move his ARW about the field of battle with as much ease as he could move his own body.  Even when certain motions are beyond his capabilities out of the suit.

Blackmoore isn't exactly what most people think of as a soldier, mainly because he started out as a Rebel.  In fact he led an armed rebellion that eventually swept across an entire planet where the people had become completely and utterly tired with the way the local government had been doing things.  In fact he and those with him actually commandeered and produced their own ARWs to combat those sent to put down the rebellion.  Of course the rebellion eventually died down and cooler heads prevailed on both sides, but a soldier is a soldier.  As a sign of good will from the planet, Blackmoore and several thousand others that had fought in the rebellion signed up to serve in the military.  Eventually his own skills led to him being placed in the ARWD, and he was allowed to use the very same mech that he had employed during his time as a rebel.  Now, this nontraditional soldier has been deployed to assist in dealing with the Epsilon problem, and with him he brings the fires of hell.
Mech Details

Name: Hell Fire
03_B7_by_Mr__Jack_zps8f4df9de.jpg

Kinetic Fists:  Both arms of the Hell Fire are equipped with large bulky apparatuses that appear to be large shields connected to the forearms.  These "shields" contain large pistons propelled in the same manner as a rail gun's projectile that shoot forward as the weapon is about to impact its target.  As such, they produce quite a great deal of focused force and can even produce shock waves out with sufficient force to cause damage out to 40 feet.

Hell Fire Blasters:  Mounted on the undersides of the Hell Fire's arms are two unique weapons which connect almost directly to its power source.  They appear to be Plasma Guns on a massive scale, and are capable of firing tightly focused beams of super-heated plasma out to 800 feet before they become less effective.  They also have a secondary firing method where they become more like flamethrowers and unload their super-heated payload out to 300 feet with a maximum width of 100 feet across.

Armor:  As with all ARWs, the Hell Fire has the standard high-strength steel armor capable of fending off solid projectiles and other such things.

Shielding System:  Unlike other units, this ARW has an in-built particle shield which overlays its armor like a glove and has projectors across the mech's form.  These result in the overall defenses of the Hell Fire being significantly augmented, granting it a much higher ability to absorb impacts from solid projectiles and making energy attacks almost completely useless unless they can overload the shielding system.

Flight System:  The Hell Fire is blessed with having a flight system integrated into its back, including what's effectively a jet pack large enough to lift the mech off the ground and hurtle through the air.  Additionally, it includes wings to allow for better maneuvering in atmospheric conditions and Vernier Thrusters for the same purpose in a vacuum.
I think the application is only a staple, and doesn't necessarily need to be put down in the app unless it's initially required by the RP host. Besides, I think that the hidden personality can add a LOT to character interaction, since you don't know what to expect from the other character, whereas in traditional RP's, you can just read up on the other person's personality, and that makes things somewhat dulled, to extents.

So far, I'm interested; I will consider a reserve for this RP, but I'll reread the post to make sure I have everything right. It's intriguing to say the least. Haven't seen a mecha-type RP in a while.
