Eury
For everything not X & Y related. Making this because we have an XY topic but not one for any other Pokemon games, including Spin-Offs like Mystery Dungeon. I've already talked to Flame Dragon about it. If the thread ends up being too close to the XY thread, or if it just isn't active, I'll have this locked. So, for the sake of the thread, please do not talk about anything XY. Yes I know it says "general" but still. NO X&Y. >: If you wanna talk about XY, here: http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/295462-pokemon-x-and-pokemon-y/ Anyways, I guess I'll start things off with some Heartgold stuff. Currently on my team I have Espeon, Moltres, Rhyperior, and Octillery. I have no idea what else to put in. I've thought of Manectric and possibly Absol. But I don't know. What do you guys think I should probably consider? Hope this thread works out. :L
CMRenji
Hmm, I'd say you should finish the Fire Water Grass core. I'd suggest a physical beast like Breloom, or perhaps something that's a bit bulky.

Eury
Do you guys know if you can manipulate the Safari Zone in HGSS with the clock? Don't wanna wait 20 days for Breloom or Cacturne. :L
Eury
Started up a new file in Sapphire, just spent a good bit finding a Ralts. Female, Synchronize, Rash. SOBUENO. and quite lucky. Got everything pretty much perfect.
WhyDidIJoinThis-.-
Does soulsilver fall into the category of heartgold? Close enough XD I *ahem* accidently punched the screen on my ds and effectively decapitated it. So now I can't play anything without an emulator, which I find extremely hard as I just get distracted with other games :l So I'm really tempted to buy another ds lite. What's a decent team to aim for in hg/ss anyway?
Spellcaster2000
So, me and my friends are having a little contest. I must build a team with just fully evolved water starters. My two friends will be doing grass and fire. What strategies should I use? I'm thinking of putting Rain Dance on Blastoise.

I'd say yes.
Eury
and hold a Damp Rock for maximum results. so catching Heracross in Sapphire was terrible. 5% encounter rate with his low cap rate and high flee rate made it take hours. Totally worth it though.
Tentacruel
I don't know if anyone else does this, but I found that Dugtrio is a fantastic counter to TTar. Switch in, take the hit, activate Focus Sash, Area Trap stops him from switching, Reversal the mofo.
Darj
The first Pokemon game I played was Sapphire so 3rd Gen became my favorite generation. I still have the cartridge but the internal battery died long ago and the game is not as enjoyable as before. However, I still play it to crush the Tough Master Contest with my Aggron and fetch a couple of Luxury Balls. The last Pokemon game I started was SoulSilver but I have not finished it yet and have not continued it for at least month. If I remember correctly, my current team is Feraligatr, Ampharos, Jumpluff, Fearow and Quagsire; the 6th member is one of 2 HM slaves. The last thing I did was beat the Ice-type Gym Leader. Looking forward to getting a Tangrowth.
WhyDidIJoinThis-.-
I actually haven't played Gen 3 much, well. I've played FireRed/LeafGreen, Silver, Soulsilver, Pearl, Platinum, and Emerald. Of these I've defeated the Elite 4 on Silver and Soulsilver. Didn't play FireRed or LeafGreen much, nor Emerald, but I did play Pearl and Platinum quite a bit. Then my DS broke as I said previously, so that pretty much put a stop to all mah poké-playing. There is a gba in the house somewhere, so I could play some FireRed/LeafGreen/silver/emerald, but I'm quite curious for Black/white, so I'm gonna be starting a game on White on an emulator in the next few days. Anyone got any recommended teams/pokémon? I do hope this isn't considered necro.
Eury
what starter do you plan on using for White? would be helpful for the suggestions. and I'd recommend getting a Deino when available. Hydreigon is totally worth it.
WhyDidIJoinThis-.-
I plan to use Oshawott, purely because of Samurott. Didn't like the look of Tepig and it's evolutions. I did however, like the look of all of Snivy's evo's. It was hard, because I don't really like the look of Oshawott or it's evolution, but Samurott has less weaknesses than Snivy and looks badass, not to mention that it's water type and also can learn more HMs than Snivy. So it's quite a discriminative choice. But ultimately I did kinda take into account type and stuff, so meh. Also, thanks for the suggestion, it looks pretty awesome actually, and how can I resist a dragon-type in my team :P Haxorus also looks awesome, and by looks I probably would definately get one, but would 2 dragon types be too much? :l
Eury
Haxorus is amazing and can sweep the E4 on its own at level 58 (this happened on my first play through). It is also available MUCH earlier than Hydreigon, iirc around the 6th Gym whereas Hydreigon isn't available until Victory Road. Whether you use both is entirely up to you but they can wreck whatever is thrown at them. So I'd say, imo Samurrot, dragon of choice, Archeops (teach Acrobatics, wreck everything), Chandelure, Meinshao, Galvantula of course you can adjust to your personal likes and such but that is something I would use :L

Overall I'd say it looks like a great team :D Thanks. If I do change any I'd probably swap either Meinshao or Archeops for a second dragon, maybe just use Haxorus and not Hydreigon dependings. But yeah, thanks :P
.Leo
I am going to start to play Pokemon Crystal for the first time (*prepares for attack*) and I would like some advice on what I should look out for in terms of Pokemon. I have played HeartGold but that has been a while so it would be nice to hear what you guys think are good options for using on an in-game team. I actually haven't played Gen 3 much, well. It is available quite early and it works very well against the Elite Four as well. It is banned in competitive play, so if that is a turn off for you then I guess you can pass on it. Phanpy is available on the very first route, if you go north into that little building into Route 45. Encounter rate is low but still there. Growlithe is available to the west of Violet City. Ampharos is always recommended, especially in the original games. Typhlosion is the best starter choice imo. Trying to remember other things... Trying to remember other things...Crystal, for the most part, was the same as Gold/Silver/Heart Gold/Soul Silver, except with a Suicune sub-plot. But after you catch/defeat it, it goes back to being normal Gold/Silver.Also, he should play as the female trainer. Shes faster.Or at least, what everyone was lead to believe when we grew up with it

Phanpy sounds like a cool option. I used one in Emerald (probably not the best choice) and enjoyed it so I am definitely up for trying it in this game. -Berserker-
There is no wild Mareep in Crystal if I remember correctly. I am playing my first legit pokemon game, White 2. I have played emulators for ten years before. I beat the elite 4 first try, with few revives and moo-moo milks, and a couple casteliacones. I exited Victory Road with my team at level 56 (and one 55, as I took it out to add a water one temporarily because N told me I needed Waterfall in Victory Road). I entered to see how far I could go and thinking I would be beaten hard. Even worse when I entered Psychic by mistake wanting to enter Dark first, with Lucario as lead. I ended up beating her and then the others. I was surprised their levels were no much higher than those of the trainers of Victory Road. My first hall of fame, with Lucario, Samurott, Stoutland, Ampharos, Crobat and Volcarona (last 2 didn't even have to battle the champion). Now I will proceed to the daycare and Masuda Method a Flaffy to transfer to Y once I get it. I haven't gotten a Ditto of a different language (or does it only need to be from a different country?), so I have a limit to what I can Masuda Method for now. I have a japanese Jellicent and Conkeldurr females, but I am not interested in egg hunting those species. My main baby dady right now will be my japanese male Emolga. Will get me a shiny mareep and then try with my Samurott.
Eury
Ditto has to be from a different version of the game. Like, if you get a German or Japanese Ditto the Masuda method would work.
-Berserker-
I still can't find one that doesn't ask a lv 9 or lower legendary to trade. Will use my Emolga for now. Field egg group is one of the biggest anyways. I am still amazed by what the japanese can ask for their magikarps. Does Soak + Net Ball work? WhyDidIJoinThis-.-
So, shall I just not use any pokemon in my team except for ones I'm planning on catching? Or... It's just because I've heard of people playing through games with teams that aren't full before, and focusing on pokémon only that I'm planning on using will mean more xp to my main peeps, thoughts? EDIT: Also, what about natures and stuff, do they really matter?
