chairman ali
Introduction: I am not a movie aficionado. I only scrutinize movies to quaff inspiration to aid my artistic work. That being said, I will review any horror movie—since I find horror movies to lack sexual scene since I want to watch a movie, not erotica—I watch from today onwards. Feel unimpeded to affix your own reviews but use a spoiler in case you criticize much parts of it. Discussion is allowed, but should be kept to a nadir. Ratings are all out of 10. The Woman In Black - Plot: Arthur Kipps, a lawyer, is given a last chance in his career. He has been sent to a village, Cryphin Gifford, to review the paperwork of Earl Marsh's house. Upon his arrival to Cryphin Gifford, a solicitor hands him all the paper work he needs—in a very hurried manner—and tells him to return to London at once. Arthur Kipps refuses and leaves to Earl Marsh's house. Upon his investigation of the paperwork, he notices a figurine of a women dressed in black, through the window. He soon realizes that there is no one present. After this occurrence, the children in Cryphin Gifford start dying, one after the other.
IMBD exaggerated with the 6.5 rating. Surely, the story is a 7 but for it being a horror movie I would drop it down to 5. There is barely any horror involved. A few scenes that were scary (I would count 3) and the rest is a thriller/suspense. The story is beautiful. It showed that Arthur will take on any job to make sure his son lives well since Arthur's wife dies after labour. In conclusion, if you really want something to keep you on the edge of your seat but not really scared then this is the movie for you.
The Conjuring - Plot: [BASED ON A TRUE STORY] A family of 7 moves into a house in the country side. Roger Perron, the father, was having a hard time with his job and this house was a magnificent in value. Little did they know about the history of this house and why it was not sold before they arrived. After a few days, paranormal activities began to happen around the house. Carolyn Perron, the mother, seeks help from 2 paranormal investigators: Ed and Lorraine.
IMBD REALLY exaggerated with giving this a 7.4. As a horror, this movie has a handful of overwrought scenes. I do not fathom why many people were scared. Was it because of the "True story" label or are people generally scared? I believe in the paranormal and this might as well be true but the directors did not really show much of the demon. They manifested it while they were in Carolyn which made it less scary because she merely transmuted. I love how they incorporated Annabelle the doll into the movie. I have ALWAYS wanted to see a movie made for Annabelle even though the story is very short. I applaud the director for this awesome surprise.
Lake Mungo - Documentary: A family of 4 went to Lake Mungo for a casual day when things turn to worse. Their daughter goes missing after her brother leave the lake to dry off. After calling the authorities, they start to search the lake. A day passes and then she is found dead. Did she drown or did she kill herself because she held many secrets?
Do not watch. On a more serious note, it is not a horror. I ended up closing the movie 20 minutes before it concluded. Since I did that, I did not know if the girl drowned or killed herself but I did know that she apparently had a sex tape with their neighbor and his wife (??????) which the neighbor broke into the house to retrieve but was caught on her brother's camera. Soon, the neighbor left the place and the police were now on a manhunt. If anyone happens to see the ending please tell me. I could not keep going because it was very boring.
Silent Hill - Plot: Sharon, an adopted child, has reoccurring dreams on a daily basis. The only clue that they have about where she came from is that she always dreams and speaks of a place called 'Silent Hill'. Rose, her 'mother' decides to take her to Silent Hill.
I loved this movie. Some very disgusting looking monsters but it had so much soul composed through it. The plot is undoubtedly perfected with a lot of wormholes for newer releases (Like Silent Hill: Revelations).
Apartment 143 - Plot: Alan White, a father of 2, has moved recently to an apartment. Leaving his old house where strange occurrences has been taking place after the death of his wife, things begin to take a similar turn in this new apartment as well. Alan calls a group of Psychiatrists as well as paranormal hunters to explain the phenomenon that is occurring.
Regardless of what anyone tells you, this movie could have easily gotten a 7.5 rating if it was genuinely longer than 80 minutes. The movie seemed to have rushed throughout the ending. Nothing was told at the beginning, vaguely any information. The first 10-20 minutes of the movie was them setting up the cameras and doing sample interviews. The last 20 minutes is where EVERYTHING happened. Howbeit, this was a brilliant plot twist. I did not expect it to turn out like it did. As a horror movie, it pretty much failed. It should be labelled as a suspense/thriller. Do not find arrogance in me but a horror movie has usually more spine-chilling scenes. I could name 3 scenes that were actually eerie but other than those nothing was out of the ordinary. The movie, like many other new movies, took the chance to use reality TV cameras to give you the sense of authenticity of the footage.
Grave Encounters - Plot: A group of paranormal investigators are on their 6th episode. This time the setting is in an Asylum of over 3000 occupants. It was all normal until midnight arrived.
I am being REALLY magnanimous with my rating. This was more of a mockumentary than a horror documentary. The first 30 minutes you observe the team fooling around and actually lying in front of the camera about their ability to see paranormal activities and such. Then everything goes hellish with doors closing & opening on their own. It honestly is a good one-time-only watch. Nothing scary since the acting and the beginning of the movie puts you off very much. There is also too much swearing going around.
The Awakening - Plot: A writer and a paranormal exposure is confronted by an All-boys school cousellor to investigate a ghostly activate that has been occurring in their building. What she thought was another scam sets in to change her life, forever.
If you have seen 'The Others' then this is somewhat similar. Though, she is not dead. This movie has a major plot twist. It is much like 'The Secret Window' as well. I would not jump straight forward and conclude this as a horror. It is much more of a mystery and investigation plot than anything else. It is a good one-time-only watch.
The Haunting in Connecticut 2 - Plot: A family of 3 recently moved into a new house near the forest. Their child encounters many meetings with a certain 'Mr.Gordy' which seems to be able to help the family end the haunting in the house.
This is filled with alarming scenes. Some of them I would go on to call frightening—only if you have your headphones and lights off—and some are simply sinister. The mother and her daughter were born under a veil. This essentially means that they have psychic powers to see the dead. Whilst the mother is worth slapping and punching a few times, she was pretty enough for me to hold my anger in me. It pisses me off when a child is trying to tell the truth and someone denies it. It is worth watching. I found the ending very much heart touching, the VERY ending. Mr.Gordy is awesome!
I will update this with more, I do not have much time right now.

chairman ali
Guess you have missed out the king of them all "Exorcism", you should definatley give it a try. I found it quite alright actually. I still like to believe that 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' to be much more eerie. I'll update the list with more tonight, hopefully. chairman ali
Updated with 3 more movies. I have about 6+ movies to review but I need to set them aside and concentrate on more important matters. Perhaps tomorrow I'd review all that I have watched.
