During the Pokémon Game Show, it was announced that a brand new anime will run to coincide with Pokémon XY. This anime is called Pokémon: The Origin, features Red & Green, is based directly on the games, and is to run from October 2nd. It's currently unclear if this is a special or a series but we'll provide information as soon as we can. The show features Red as he starts his journey and battles his rival Green, and the Gym Leader Brock. Pictures courtesy of Dengeki

As long as it goes on for a bit of time, I will be happy. Doing something that follows the games closer and actually uses the original character designs seems really neat.

Though, I have to wonder, would the Female Protagonist from FR/LG show up at all (Side character?) Prolly not, but something I think would be kind of neat.

I wouldn't count on it as it's based on Red & Green.

I'm excited about this as it should be awesome, and Red won't have to do much to be better than Ash. I would like it to span a few episodes, but we do know this special is a one-time deal.

With Team Rocket also appearing in the special, I'll be glad to see that the TR trio will not be a thing.

I'm actually really excited about this it looks like they've gone with the style of the Pokemon Adventures Manga a little bit. Hopefully they continue it with all of the games and incorporate every past main character like they've done in the manga. (ei red and green return in the Johto version but the story is about Gold and Silver, and so on.)

it took them this long to ACTUALLY do it? :I

Well in Japan they go by what the people want (hence why Ash is still 10 and will always be 10) so I guess there's been that high of a demand for a new main character in the anime to be like red or an anime based on the games so maybe that's why they've finally done this.

Gameverse sounds good. Will probably deepen the whole Blue/Green confusion, since the English games refer to the final gym (In GSC/HGSS)has Blue not Green like the Japanese games and manga apparently do.

Not keen on Red's design though. And Green I prefer in Mangaverse to Gameverse (Because he is so damn cool). Wonder if they ever let it get far enough to solve the Gary's Raticate theory (Random thought, but I was browsing Pokemon Creepypasta and Lavender Town Syndrome yesterday)

Maybe if they get really good ratings or something, they might think about doing other games? Doing Gold & Silver and Ruby & Sapphire and all would make this whole thing even more awesome, don't you think? But yeah, I know it's just this now.

Looking at the art, it's clear that it's Gen III Red's design with a Gen I feeling to the art. I don't think I really have to be pointing out such things when this is gonna be just plain awesome. (though I also notice it's much the same for Green (in color, at least) with the edition of a Jacket, and Brock's outfit seems more similar to his HGSS one than anything)

Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but yeah I reckon they IF they made specials for the other games (I'm not counting on it atm), I reckon they'll be just as awesome as this one.

The Japanese website is billing Pokémon: Origin as a "special broadcast", so it's likely to be a one-off, not a full series.

Yeah. And I understand, what with the name, they're really only planning on Red/Green.

What would be better than just more specials though, is if this gets some massive ratings, they go and decide to make a TV series on these games (or maybe even the manga, just want something different after so long). Would probably be too much of a miracle to ask for though. Too bad, even if the current anime is still popular enough, there are still plenty of people who'd want something different. (would even get me to follow it up to date)

Whilst there are people who still like the current anime series with Ash as the main protag, at least they're making a special that will please those who are sick of seeing Ash as the main protag whilst being somewhat similar to the adventures manga.

Well, I do like it, I just think the worst thing about it is having the same protag for so long.

... I guess that only proves that I'm one of those people. I just can't wait.
