Spicy Food

Let me preface this by saying I am a huge wimp.

Discuss spicy food in general. I know one time on here, I remarked on something that was supposed to be spicy from our local knock-off Thai Restaurant, but it just ended up being hot temperature-wise and not really spicy. Whenever we go out to P.F. Chang's (as a family), I have to order something else from my parents because of my very low tolerance to spicy food. Just a few days ago, my father grilled some bacon-wrapped jalapenos injected with cream cheese, and I just simply couldn't bring myself to eat another one after the first one. I simply can't stand the feeling of your mouth perpetually burning, so you take a few sips of milk (or water), but then instantly, you fill up on milk (or water) because your mouth was burning. I swear, I sweat so much that I could have easily filled an entire bucket and that my eyebrows had suddenly disappeared.

So how's your tolerance to spicy food? And do you like spicy food in general?

I absolutely love it.

In the past, I never really did spicy. Things like jalapenos were a no-no for me.

Then my godfather moved closer to where I lived and made our first curry batch. I nearly puked but ate through it because hey, free food.

From there I slowly got more and more used to spicy foods to the point where (like your story) I ordered some thai curry and it was just meh in terms of spicy. At least until I told them to put it at the level 5 spicy or whatever.

Spiciness adds a zest of flavor to the food which makes the taste more upbeat and tangy. My tolerance level is moderate, but something like jalapenos would make me incinerate for minutes on end. Basically, I don't need spicy food that overcomes the taste so that the only taste is burning.

I was given Jamaican super hot sauce as a child, before my taste buds had even heard of other spicy foods, and I got traumatized by it. I was even afraid to eat hot popcorn. Only recently have I even started to try normal spicy foods, and I must say, they tase really good once you get over the mild burn. so at the moment, I'm still slightly on the fence when it comes to spicy foods.

I love the taste of spicy food in general, but there are times when my tolerance wavers dangerously level and I'm at that point where IT HURTS SO GOOD or something.

I'd say my favorite spicy food is General Tso's Chicken, lots of awesome flavor in there and it goes greatly with white rice to give that some zest as well as to soothe the burning.

Ah yes white rice. Rice is a staple in my diet (practically I eat it everyday), so pretty much when we cook spicy food, white rice buffers that spicy feeling well and adds more to the bite.
